Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
So not to change the subject in this thread, but the Redskins have worn what I call "Home Uniforms" the first two games with one on the road and last week at home. Are they wearing "Burgundy over Gold pants" this week @ Eagles? Or is it road Whites with Burgundy pants.
Anyone have the scoop on this stuff or the reasons behind the choices? I don't know why I am always interested in the uniform choices, but I am. Hard for me to see the Redskins winning on the road this week, but I think we start to find out how good our Defense really is this week. PLEASSSE avoid the turnover and I think the Redskins can win this one. Redskins 24 - Eagles 20
I think the home team gets to choose the uniforms so if the Texans went with a white uni then the Redskins need to wear burgundy. |

Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
If we can keep the dump offs to the backs in check we could be ok. That's pretty much all Foles has been doing. He hasn't been as effective when trying to go down the field as he was last year.

I hope you and Matty are right, that Sproles matchup has me worried, can only hope when he is targeted its a bad pass or he drops it. Not many teams have someone that can cover Shady and or Sproles coming out of the backfield, thats a tough matchup for anyone. Speaking of which I wish the skins threw more to their backs, dont think anyone is afraid of our backs coming out of the backfield Occasionally a rb is thrown a bone but not very often and when it does its usually Helu on 3rd down Wish we had someone like Shady whos a threat to take it to the house on any play Seastrunk had that capability to catch a pass out of the backfield and take it to the house but he's gone, maybe Redd could but he's not going to see the field unless Helu or Morris get hurt Maybe coach could design some plays with Jackson in the backfield and Helu spread out to get some favorable matchups |

Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
I'm betting on Gruden in this one.
He says they've studied Philly closely. The D is better staffed to stop their attack this year (LB's faster, better pass rush) and the offense is still coming around. I'm going on record as: Skins 24, Eaglets 21 Cobra Kai nails one late! Hail! |

Get this one for Chief Z....DAMMIT!!! Skins 34-14 |
Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
Control the clock with the run. Pound our good rotation of runners.. work play action and the boot when the time is right... press the shit out of them on defense. Tight on the line with two deep.. and i think we CAN control that offense... best of luck to us

hopefully the new 'hats around the ball' emphasis will result in those dump offs not going for much and the eagles bailing on it as a scheme quickly. i think the key is going to be with the d line and pressure on foles. if our d can make them go 3 and out and get after foles, and cousins can string together some LSD (even if it's only 3 points each), then we'll be good to go. i think we'll come out firing. the key is going to be to step on their throats and not let them hang around. they've come back twice that way so far... |

some of us have been talking about it since the leadup to week 1 :) i just don't think we're as bad as 3-13 suggest. there was a lot of crap going on last season that's been removed. and honestly... the salary cap and the front office have loaded this team with talent. a lot of young talent. this year may wind up being mediocre, but i'm thoroughly pleased with the way they went about drafting and free agency. of course, wtf do i know. |
Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
Alfred Morris goes for 143 yards and 2 TDs, No vision Richardson had 70 and Bradshaw had some good gains as well. We hold on to the ball for 36 minutes, KC throws for 225 and a beautiful 57 yard TD in the 4th to DeSean to seal the game as the Redskins pull away 31-14.
Defense sacks Foles 4 times and Amerson picks him off in the 2nd quarter. |
Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
Will our defense be out of gas by the 4th quarter? I think it will. Our front 4 doesn't have a deep rotation due to injuries and the group to the ball philosophy is physically demanding on especially on the big guys. The Philly scheme is a variation of the run stretches early to get the defense moving sideline to sideline. You don't get much early but you take over the game in the 4th quarters. That's what they have done in both games so far.
I would feel a ton better about this game if it was at home.
I would feel a ton better if we had a plan to contain their screen game. Foles looked very shaky missing open throws downfield, but Sproles turned his easy screen passes into huge chunk plays against Indy. I hope Haslett has an answer.

Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
Meriweather gives Sproles a concussion with a massive helmet-to-helmet hit in the first quarter. After that, we only have to worry about McCoy. Redskins win 27-24.

i was actually wondering whether they would use merriweather to shadow sproles or mccoy. we dont have the OLBs to keep up with them. but i see merriweather going knee level low .. and of course pissing off the eagles in the process for trying to end sproles or mccoy's career. that leaves us exposed on the back end by bringing merriweather in the box or close to it and we might have to drop a corner back into soft coverage on one side giving foles some easy short looks..... but id rather see if foles can beat us vs sproles/mccoy im interested to see haslett's gameplan |

I think we have the ILBs with enough speed to take care of Shady. The key will be to make sure that our front 7 do a good job getting to foles and prevent a deep pass to Maclin or Cooper. |
Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
If Kelly goes on to be a star coach, I will have a heckuva lot of crow to eat. I can't see this as being an appropriate response for an NFL coach about an injured player:
Zach Berman @ZBerm 7m Chip said he doesn't know what's wrong with Kendricks' calf because he didn't ask. Said all he wants to know is can player play, yes or no and from the full article:
Kelly would not discuss the degree of Kendricks' calf injury. "I don’t ask," Kelly said. "Can we get this out of the way: I’m never going to ask. I don’t care. Just tell me if they can play or can’t play. That’s all I ever ask." Read more at Mychal Kendricks still absent from practice; Marcus Smith working at inside linebacker
|
Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
Positive notes:
Philly has O-Line problems Colts ran right thru their D-Line WRs are overhyped secondary does not impress me Really pisses me off that we couldn't grab Sproles bc he is my favorite non-Skin player |
Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
And to Kelly's comment that he doesn't care, I would imagine that snippet (and I am reading more into it for sure) plays into DJax's exit. Just listening to DJax and his answers, he is someone who needs a coach who shows he cares. He had that with Andy Reid, but clearly it isn't Kelly's style. Have there been coaches who succeed without being a "caring coach" sure, but I can't think of many who have just come out to the media and said he's never going to care about the specific degree of injury to his players.

Kelly is a good X's and O's guy, and that will probably keep him alive. But if he ever starts losing, things could get ugly. Some players still like the head coach even if they're losing as a team, but I doubt Kelly would find it that way. Interesting side note leading up to this game: our first pick, 2nd rounder Trent Murphy, is already getting a nice amount of defensive snaps even with Rak and Kerrigan ahead of him, plus he's contributing on special teams. Meanwhile, their first pick, 1st rounder Marcus Smith, got 0 total snaps in their first game and was on the inactive list against the Colts, even though the players ahead of him aren't as good as Rak and Kerrigan. May not be the war, but it is a small battle, and we're winning. :D |
Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
Looking at the listings and its looking like the Skins, AGAIN, are not on in Baltimore. F'ing sucks.

Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
This exchange re: Chip Kelly reminds me a little about Tom Coughlin. He's always been strong on Xs and Os. Early on in his head coaching career, he was viewed as a rather cold hardass by his players. He had success, but when things started to slide (which is inevitable in the salary-cap era), players didn't have his back. Over the years coaching the Giants, however, I think he's changed his approach; you get the impression that he's got closer individual relationships with his players, and I don't think it is a coincidence that his greatest success has come in NY.
Kelly may learn that over time as well. It's funny -- one of my favorite quotes about Vince Lombardi by one of his players, was something like: "Oh, Coach Lombardi is great. He treats us all teh same. He treats us like dogs." But I think his players really loved him, and in part because he was a winner (he was THE winner), but also because he was such a great father figure (albeit a tough love father figure, and not in the Adrian Peterson kind of way). |
Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
It's one thing to be a hard ass. I think it's off the charts another to put out for public consumption that a coach doesn't care about the severity of an injury, and further says don't ask me those type questions about any injuries ever.

yes it does. i have yet been able to wake up knowing that i can enjoy a full football sunday in the comfort of my own home. last week it rained saturday so we had to push the renaissance fest to sunday and i dvr'd the game so i didnt get to watch it until 8 pm. anytime the ravens play, there cannot be a another nfl game on broadcast tv in balt... .. so anytime the ravens and skins play at the same time = guaranteed no skins game. really wish i could have gotten direct tv in my "historic" building .. i always recommend the skins bar in locust point that used to be known as sly fox (willey grunthier's (sp?) now)) |
Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
I don't disagree at all with that point. But my point simply is that guys do change styles, and perhaps Kelly wil learn too.
The cold indifference to the nature and severity of the injury -- and it does come across that way -- is not going to endear him to guys in the locker room. And that matters. |

Seems like that would allow for the rule to be rendered meaningless pretty easily. He may have just meant that he doesn't get into the gory details with the trainers and physicians -- he just wants to know what he can expect from the player. Or he may be a complete jerkweed. Since I cannot stand the Eagles, I prefer to think the latter. |

Two words: Sunday Ticket.
Ain't that the truth. I work in Baltimore so I commute sometimes to watch the game nearby. I found out that the Dave and Busters in the area plays Baltimore and Washington games in the sports bar. If they play at the same time, Baltimore gets the game over the speakers though, which sucks. Although when Washington or Baltimore plays on different days (or one or the other has a 4pm kickoff) Washington gets the sound over the speakers. So it's not a total loss. |

I actually don't mind Kelly's response regarding injuries... you get bombarded with them during press conferences.
