Re: Around the NFL: Week 7
It is a good thing I don't have to make a living betting NFL games Jax over the Browns, Rams beating the Hawks, Miami beating the Bears, and Indy blanks Cincy.

So I start him this week and he gets 5 receiving yards. What a mothereffer. Way to suck Browns. |

Teams win SBs, not individual players. Comparing Peyton's teams to the likes of Montana's 49ers or Brady's Patriots is laughable to say the least. I've watched QBs since the 80's and I have never seen a QB do the things that Manning has done (or probably will ever do). I"d put Montana right behind Manning though. If a future hall of famer safety (Rodney Harrison) says he's the best he's ever played against, I'd take his word with some serious weight. Also note, Harrison pointed out that he had played against Brady as well. |

That is like saying Trent Dilfer(1 SB win) belongs in the HoF, but not Dan Marino(0 SB wins). |
Re: Around the NFL: Week 7
It's all opinion and I choose Montana. Peyton you have to spend too much money to get the pieces he needs.

Sammy Baugh Bart Starr 5X championships Johnny Unitas Brett Favre Joe Montana John Elway Otto Graham Tom Brady
Are you going to say: Dan Marino Warren Moon Jim Kelly Dan Fouts Fran Tarkenton Are not great quarterbacks? You can not use SB wins as the end all be all of rating QBs. |

Re: Around the NFL: Week 7
The problem with Super Bowls is that it comes down to 1 game. Do you think Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan have the rings they do if the NBA title was a one game elimination?
Hell no. There is too much that can happen in one game, and it relies on 30+ other players to do their job. I suggest you look at Vanderjagt's playoff kicking percentage. Look at Vinateri's. See how many games were lost/won by said kicking. Again, SO many factors in winning a super bowl to hold that against a player. If you want to use SBs, Timmy Smith was a better RB than Barry Sanders. Yeah...sounds stupid doesn't it? |
Re: Around the NFL: Week 7
Ironically Manning and Luck are now tied for the league lead in TD passes (19). Then again Luck also has 2 rushing TD's :D
Huh huh, league lead. Thats like a tongue twister huh huh. |
Re: Around the NFL: Week 7
Manning 11-12 in playoffs, 1-2 in SB's tell that to Montana, Starr, Unitas and Brady.
It's all opinion and I choose Montana. Peyton you have to spend too much money to get the pieces he needs.
How so? Peyton isn't asking for any of these pieces. One of the main reasons Bill Polian was fired is because he neglected the defense. That's the thing. Peyton makes these WRs much better than what they are. He puts them in a position to succeed and flourish. Do you see Decker putting up the numbers he did in Denver? Nope. Most of these guys (Darius/Julius/Decker) were here before Peyton Manning. How come they weren't doing 1/2 of what they are doing? The QB play.
They were great but in the NFL you are judged by winning SB's. Manning is a notorious SB choker.
No, only fans and media do stupid shit like that. |

It's a team game. HERR DERRR Like I said. Manning has to rely on 30+ other players to do it as well, and quite frankly he hasn't had the same support as many of these guys you list. Same with Dan Marino. One game eliminations isn't something you base a person's worth on. To do so is short sighted and narrow minded to say the least. |

Didn't they build some great teams in Indy and have pretty good coaches? Take the blinders off, I'd take Brady over Manning any day. So you have to be childish and start name calling? Grow up man. |

They built a great offensive team, not a great team. The defenses sucked. Listen, you don't win in the playoffs with a high power offense. Defense rules in the playoffs. History shows that time and time and time again. If you want to win the regular season, have a great offense. You want to win in the post season, have a good defense. Name calling? WTF are you talking about? Can you show me where I called you a name? Holy Raptor Jesus you should learn to read. I'm done with this. You aren't worth the effort. Namely because your logic (none) is all over the place. |

Whether he's the absolute best or not, Peyton Manning is one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history and in my opinion we're blessed to witness his career live. But no, let's just dismiss him as a Super Bowl choker

Ahhh , the voice of reason .:) |
Re: Around the NFL: Week 7
Today is Manning's day. He is one of the best to ever do it. He might not be the best to ever do it in some people's opinion (including mine to be honest) but you can't deny what he has accomplished. He's thrown more than 100 touchdown passes in the last three years which is crazy to think about considering he just came off neck surgery.
All time touchdown leader. 5 time MVP. One of the greatest QBs to ever play. |

I feel fortunate to have watched the career of Peyton Manning, the best QB that I've ever seen with my own eyes (sorry Bob Waterfield).
It was great to see him break the record last night. No one is more deserving than Peyton Manning. Awesome player, class act. |

NHL passes its first test in the post Ray Rice era
Slava Voynov of Los Angeles Kings suspended indefinitely - ESPN Los Angeles
Slava Voynov was arrested Monday morning on domestic violence charges and has been suspended indefinitely from the Los Angeles Kings pending a formal investigation by the NHL. A rule in the collective bargaining agreement states that, during a criminal investigation, "the League may suspend the Player pending the League's formal review and disposition of the matter where the failure to suspend the Player during this period would create a substantial risk of material harm to the legitimate interests and/or reputation of the League." Reached by telephone Monday morning, Voynov's agent, Rolland Hedges, declined to comment about the situation. "I'm sorry, I really can't," he told ESPN.com. Hedges said he was working on gathering more information about the situation. The defenseman will continue to be paid during the suspension. Voynov has two assists in six games this season. When asked about the issue of domestic violence at the beginning of this season, commissioner Gary Bettman said the league had been working with the union on the policy for over a decade. "We as a league have more than enough authority and mechanisms to punish, if necessary, in the appropriate case. Fortunately we haven't seen too many. But more importantly we focus on counseling and education, and in the joint programs we have with the Players' Association we've been counseling and educating on domestic violence for more than a decade, I don't remember the exact date," he said. "The security department does it in their annual meetings with each team, and the behavioral counselors from the substance abuse, behavioral health program also counsel and educate the players on those and many other issues. "So I'm not sure for us there is any need for any code of conduct other than our players, who overwhelming conduct themselves magnificently off the ice -- we deal with it on a case by case basis. I don't think we need to formalize anything more. Our players know what's right and wrong, and as I said, we have the mechanisms in place to hopefully not get to that point." ESPN.com's Katie Strang and ESPN The Magazine's Craig Custance contributed to this report.
|

Re: Around the NFL: Week 7
If Brian Orakpo thinks he's "elite", he should watch this Texans game to understand what elite really is. Watt has made more plays/turnovers in a couple games than Rakpo has his entire career.
