I want to see as many young guys on the field as possible.

Re: Expectations for the rest of the season...
For myself, the best thing the Skins have going for them is that Gruden is truthful about how the team and each individual plays. With Shanahan you always got BS, but Gruden tells it like it is. With RGIII Gruden knows he won't win. The Skins would be better off with McCoy or Cousins starting. McCoy deserved to start the Vikings game, should have started, and maybe the team thought McCoy deserved to start the game too.
|
Re: Expectations for the rest of the season...
The Skins drafted RGIII but I think they really got RGZero.
|
Re: Expectations for the rest of the season...
So now the Skins have to figure a way to draft a "Tom Brady" QB in the sixth round of the next draft.
|
Re: Expectations for the rest of the season...
Haven't we seen enough of Cousins? I know I sure have.
|
Re: Expectations for the rest of the season...
Kirk Cousins?? Da Fuq??

JLee9718 and Gary84Clark should have a deep and meaningful discussion of the Redskins QB situation. |
Re: Expectations for the rest of the season...
Well - RG3 is back in there, and that unfortunatley is for better or worse. I think as long as he is in there - you hover around .500 worse case scenario, and if he plays well perhaps you squeak one or two out.
I understand the need for Snyder to tell Gruden that he is playing RG3, but in turn that meant we ended up benching the guy who had won two straight (Colt McCoy). I also sort of wonder what kind of shit will hit the fan if the skins lose out, and i wonder if that ever comes up in anyones conversations - that the decision on starting QB was made by the owner. I think it brings up the other great point that many posters have pointed out. It's going to be very tough to get good HC's and coordinators when it is well known that in actuality they have very little say on personnel, who to start, etc.. I can't imagine any legit HC coming here after Gruden when he already knows that he may not get the final say on who starts, etc... I hope we finish better than last year. 6-10 sucks but it shows some improvement. I think in year two Gruden has to be at least 8-8 or he' gone....
God I'd pray not. Gruden has the kind of attitude we need in a head coach. I've said it before and I'll say it again, we need a franchise coach as much as we need a franchise quarter back. I'm tired of the revolving door and the same old same old. |

What we really need to do is to bring back Shane Matthews. He has more experience than any QB on the roster and has the same ability to succeed as Cousins or McCoy. |

RG3 is 3-12 in games since his injury(his first) that is not that impressive either. Plus the fact we have yet to see him make it through a whole season. Tired of hearing how great Rg3 is (or is going to be) when he can't even get off the bench. Fact is, the Skins got fleeced by the Rams. |

Add Hijinx to that list. Seriously, while no one would likely say that RGIII is the clear answer (not until we see him healthy and sustained good play), I think it is likewise silly to say that he's the root of the problem here. Our D has been horrid the last two seasons (longer, really), as have our special teams. One player isn't going to carry the team -- not with as many holes as we have had. To be clear, I am not diminishing the importance of the QB position, far from it. But RGIII is already better than anyone we've had at that position in recent memory, whether he's lived up to expectations, realistic or unrealistic as they may be. We need to see what he can do, and the rest of the season will be an important test. If he plays well and stays healthy, regardless of wins and losses (because, let's face it, we're not going 7-0 to finish the season), we can (hopefully) move on from the angst-ridden discussion about the QB and focus our energies on building an O-line, adding at least 1 safety and 1 CB, and otherwise getting some more depth on the team. |

During the time Haslett has been our defensive coordinator, we're the only team in the league with a losing record when we score 26 points or more. |
Re: Expectations for the rest of the season...
^ A depressing statistic. I should add that we need D line help. Hatcher isn't getting younger, nor is Cofield, and I am not sold that Baker, Jenkins, Golston, Bowen, or Nield (also hurt) -- or anyone else we've plugged in up front is more than just a guy.

Are you saying that the trade tore Sam Bradford's ACL? What the Rams did with the picks has nothing to do with the price that the Skins paid. If you go and buy a pack of gum for $100 and the guy selling gum blows the $100 at the casino, it doesn't mean you got a good deal on the gum just because the casino thing didn't pan out for the other guy. |
Re: Expectations for the rest of the season...
Also Lanier Coleman, Mo Hurt, Arrelious Benn, Tony Moeaki and Tim Hightower
Hightower again? Are we hurting at RB that bad? I definitely get the lineman, I can try to get the WR too, but RB? I'm just confused. :confused?: |

But I'm just schadenfreude like that... |

My bad. Benn and Moeaki worked out with Seattle, not the Redskins It was probably just a favor to Hightower since he's in the area and is looking to get back in the league with any team |

Nobody has won either. |
Re: Expectations for the rest of the season...
I watched the Redskins vs Vikings and after a few days of thinking about why we lost, I formed the opinion their was several factors that cost us the game.
1. The offense did not make enough plays in the 1st half to put the Vikings away early when they were struggling on offense. 2. I have to say the play calling has to be questioned a few times during the game. We had a 3rd and 1 and we run a toss play to the left with Roy Helu that lossed yards. This was a critical time in the game that if we convert the 3rd down we go ahead and add to our 10 point lead. Instead we have to punt. The 2 point conversion try SMH on that call when it was not needed at that time. You don't go for 2 points unless you have to tie or take the lead. Didn't like the coaches decision . 3. The defense played well in the 1st half until the RG3 int which resulted in a TD before halftime. The defense lost momentum and did not make any adjustments the rest of the game. The d-line had chances to sack Teddy but could not get him down with a 4 man rush. The defense had a chance to win the game if they could have stopped the Vikings when we took the lead. |
It bothers me that Gruden called the collapse of the defense against Minnesota a "collective" failure. That's because when everybody is to blame then supposedly nobody is to blame.
It bothers me even more that he went on to say that "no one coach" is to blame. I read this as an indirect defense of Haslett. The way I see it, if the whole damn defense can't figure out their assignments, then there is indeed one coach to blame and that coach is the DC. If the defense continues to look clueless and the DC is not replaced, then there will be another coach to blame, the HC.
OK, serious question here (not defending Has).... The majority of the issue I saw in the Vikes game was with the secondary. Does Raheem get any of the blame? |

Re: Expectations for the rest of the season...
The only thing that matter the rest of the season is RG3. Enough is enough. Is he the guy or isn't he? Too much has been invested in him to still have such doubt at this point
|
Re: Expectations for the rest of the season...
Well I'm in RG's camp. I don't know what the hell people are expecting?! He's the best QB on the roster right now and definitely has the higher ceiling.
This is the time a coach would speak up to defend the franchise QB, talk about adding more talent to the offensive line to protect RG. Put those guys on notice first. Grudens not doing that? |

If he isnt, what do you think the play will be? I dont think Bradford is back, Id bring him for a look depending on how that injury has healed. Not that I would be all in but Id sit him down and say you and RG3 are in a QB competition. Id give Colt that option as well ( I def dont think Colt is the future here). Id think Id stray away from the drafting a QB. We got more things to worry about especially if we are going to convert to a 4-3 defense. |

I couldn't agree more. The Skins didn't give up everything they did for RG3 for him to still be the huge question mark that he is. The thing that really bothered me about Sunday is that RG3 didn't really seem any better that Teddy Bridgewater. I know RG has his injury issues and lack of playing time but his accuracy and footwork are not very good and his pocket presence is as bad as Jason Campbell. I think the rest of the season has to be used to see if RG can improve these flaws and move forward. |

You can just tell that Bridgewater is a natural at it and it comes easy for him to stand in there. He had pressure a few times and avoided it by climbing and using footwork. I rarely see Griffin do this. IMO that's why he's sacked so much. It's just something he's never going to be great at. But I still thought he did more good than bad, a lot of positives from a long lay off. |

What do you think he needs to do to: 1. Be here next season. 2. Keep the starting position at the beginning of next season. 3. Win Gruden over as his franchise QB. |

The only big question to me is his health. He needs to stay in the lineup in order to keep improving.

Which is why I didn't understand all the people that insisted on keeping him on the bench. |
Re: Expectations for the rest of the season...
He certainly is doing a better job of protecting himself on his runs. I think he is making progress across the board, and they say he is.
It wouldn't be our luck for him to pan out, but we're due for something to go right. Right? |
Re: Expectations for the rest of the season...
Also I would bring back both KC and McCoy. Both showed a lot of bright spots and perhaps can and will improve with another year. As long as RG3 is your starter, there better be quality back-ups on the roster.
|
Re: Expectations for the rest of the season...
^ I would too, although they'd have to understand that it would be as backups (if RGIII is playing well through season's end and is the annointed starter). McCoy might get an offer to compete for a starting spot elsewhere; not so sure about Counsins.
|
Re: Expectations for the rest of the season...
the Redskins and Rams have the same job going forward. They will just play spoiler where needed so teams like the Eagles and Cardinals are knocked down
