Re: 2015 Free Agents
merriweather has only played in 50% of games since he's been here. that's just not reliable enough. if he's cheap he's worth keeping, but you can't depend on him for 16 games.

Re: 2015 Free Agents
My new GM is an advocate of building through the draft.
"Why hire guys that are not familiar with your system, injury issues, and may have other habits that we don't like. Let's bring in our own guys through the draft and teach them what we want and pay them to keep them. Free Agency is a tool available that we may also use when it makes sense" --Scott McC....> < Until he proves this will not work, I am ALL in with this philosophy. Been waiting years to hear it. HTTR...... Look how well the FA philosophy has served us in the past... |
Re: 2015 Free Agents
Yeah its time to build up this team and we do it by the draft no more FA BS. Yeah we can go get a couple starters in FA but I want all our picks. Trade cousins for a 5 if we can also. No sense in having him and rg3

Re: 2015 Free Agents
The reality of the NFL is that we will need to dabble in Free Agency. If you listened to Scot, he drafts based on BPA, not Need.
That means, to fill Needs, we'll have to use Free Agency. Also, we have several current roster members (at least 11) who will be UFA's: Orakpo, Polumbus, Helu, J Jenkins, Meriweather, Hankerson, Paul, Moss, McCoy, Clark & Biggers to name a few. So, we draft BPA and hope that we get all of those positions filled? Seriously? I think it's clear that we will need to have some involvement in Free Agency. Avoiding Free Agency is as silly as Avoiding draft picks. Good teams strike a balance....hopefully, we become a good team soon. |

Let them all test the market and come back before even considering to offer.

" Why not resign your own" ? ahhh because the team was 4-12 and you can do better - Paul is a special teams player masquerading as a TE - Helu is an average 3rd down back |
Re: 2015 Free Agents
Helu hasn't done much in 2 years. Paul had 1 good game last yr.
|
Re: 2015 Free Agents
Helu and Paul are perhaps worth keeping if looked at purely as depth players rather than starters.
Depth has been an issue with this team for years. |
Re: 2015 Free Agents
I for one hope we keep Helu. Especially on 3rd down he's shown to be one of the more reliable pass catching rbs in the league. Paul is hit or miss, depends on the price. He shows flashes when called upon, but I also like some of the young talent coming out in the draft this year who can both block and be a threat in the passing game which would allow us to not worry about wasting two roster spaces on people who do one and not the other. Don't really want to keep any of the other free agents we have.

I think both had decent backup years, Helu certainly filled a role. If you are saying go out and get someone else for comparable dollars, sure bring guys in for competition as well as some undrafted rookies. BUT if you are saying we need to spend much more to upgrade those positions I say there is value to the guys who have solid chemistry, have effective if not standout ability and our FA dollars are better spent elsewhere. Another way to say it is those guys are holes only if you choose to make them one, in which case you need to have a plan that produces more without spending unreasonably over what their resign fee would be. |

I feel bad for Jenkins, he showed promise during pre-season his first year but that injury really killed his ceiling. I will never understand why some people are still enamored with Hank. lol I remember getting into a huge argument with some guy on the board a year or two ago, because he swore Hank was going to be a formidable #1. |

Helu I think is a good #2, but I'd honestly like to see Redd moved up the depth chart. I don't know how offenses work, but I know we're bringing in big fatties for the line... Would that mean we're changing to a shifty cut runner (like Helu) or a big power runner (Alfmo)? |
Re: 2015 Free Agents
I like Helu but we need a back that can block on 3rd downs. It was a big problem this year.
|
Re: 2015 Free Agents
In free agency, Mike Iupati and Byron Maxwell are my hopefuls, I really hope they look into moving Amerson to FS.

I'd love maxwell and mike I.

This. Our RB and TE *have* to block, and catch 2nd. We've just collected RB and pass-catching TE who cannot block. Nothing wrong with FA to fill the roster with good depth / character. The strategy should be pick up the bargains AFTER the first 2 weeks of FA, instead of overpaying for older vets looking for a payday. If McC has a good eye for the draft, hope he has a good eye for FA bargains as well. And taking them young 25-27 is better than the 30+ year olds we used to pick up. |
Re: 2015 Free Agents
Barksdale yes! Orrrr orlando franklin i like it OP. Thing is your db selections worry me. Tramons not young anymore hes about where we picked up dhall when we got him in age. Thats cool it worked with hall but nahhh abd rahim moore is basicly meriweather with a littttle better instincts and coverage... Nahhhh i want ballhawks!!

Dan Williams the NT from Arizona is also a free agent I would like to look at.

Re: 2015 Free Agents
I kept a close eye on Brian Bulaga during the GB divisional playoff game. He was matched up against Cliff Avril for most of the game and it seemed to me that he handled Avril well in pass protection.
The Packers didn't seem to run much to Bulaga's side. I don't know what that might indicate, if anything. It seems to me that he could help us as our new RT if the Skins want to go with a FA at that position. He's just 26 years old which is a good thing. |

If the Rams would cut Bradford, I would hope we would be very interested. "Pay-as-you-go" and "prove it" contracts are the new fad, so there is no excuse to bitch out on a player like Bradford. Im not talking break the bank, but he is a risk that would be worth taking. |

McCoy IMHO is not going be a starter in this league. |

I would be more inclined to move RG3 or McCoy if we did. I think Cleveland is a good landing spot for either guy. |

Typically you carry 3 QB's. RGIII is under contract and is fairly cheap plus he is playing for that 5th year payday. McCoy has already been through CLE he is not going back. |
Re: 2015 Free Agents
I just don't see St. Louis letting Bradford walk. Probably not going to happen. He still has value. He's still probably shown enough in his limited play that if you put talent around him, he can be really good. I think he stays put but has to compete for the job.
We're looking at a competition probably between Griffin and someone else. Not going to be three guys. Gruden pretty much already stated that. We already know he likes McCoy so I would assume they pick him over KC and draft a guy. I also think if Philly is dangling Foles, and I'm the Redskins, I make a call. |

:Flush: Ok Vinny.
Well he's better than any of the options we have here. Making a call to find out what the price is doesn't mean make a deal. |
Well he's better than any of the options we have here.
Id chose waiting to see if Bradford would become available over Foles. I do think Foles would be a better option over Cousins though...but Im not giving a pick in the first 3 rounds for him. |
Re: 2015 Free Agents
i dont know much about Scot McCloughan but i dont think trading picks for players is his MO. i dont want Foles anyway. thats the last thing we need. another average QB thinking he is elite.
I think Bulaga is going to want LT money and command close to 7-8 mil per year. Iupati will also command top dollar. If we didnt pull the trigger on lauvau at 4-5 mil per last year, it would seem more do-able. i dont see us adding multiple premier talent FAs. We need to add 1 or 2 starters in FA, made one of them will be premier. |

Re: 2015 Free Agents
Trading for a QB would be stupid. Build both lines, bolster the defense, fix special teams, and set up a situation where a young/inexperience QB can grow and be successful.
|
Re: 2015 Free Agents
Ron Parker SS, from Kansas City
Mike Iupati OG, from San Francisco Dan Williams NT, from Arizona Byron Maxwell or Brandon Flowers CB from Seattle and San Diego respectively Rahim Moore FS, from Denver Will Hill SS, Baltimore (has issues I know) Samson Steele C Those are the group of FAs I have interest in Although he would be way too much and there isn't a need at all, having Dez Bryant on Madden would be fun |
Re: 2015 Free Agents
Brian Bulaga?
Oh man, I would cream myself if we got him. |
Re: 2015 Free Agents
SM has already said he's not one to depend on free agency. I'd expect us to be quiet this year.
|
Re: 2015 Free Agents
While McCloughan has said he intends to the build through the draft, if Baluga fits in Jay's system and is available at the right price, I am confident SM would make an offer.
I wouldn't expect Redskin 1 to be out of the gates day one, but, in light of SM's comments and where we are talentwise, I would expect them to look into a few folks who become available. |
