Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
Two good drafts and some smart value shopping in FA could have us in a whole new world by the end of '16 season. Forget spending a bunch of money in FA. Do a good job drafting and save money to sign the good players you drafted and developed.
THAT is exactly what I have in mind. Not sure if that makes you genius or fool..... |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
Wouldnt it be nice if just someone outside of Trent Williams developed along the D and Oline?
Time to be honest, we have used picks in the draft along the lines, none have panned outside of Silverback. Thats bad front office, bad coaching and bad scouting.
Actually no, the Skins haven't used picks on the O line. Chris Samuels, Jon Jansen, and Trent Williams are the only linemen drafted in the first two rounds during the past 15 yrs (at lrast that I can recall). Was has mainly relied in free agency, when they've bothered to do anything for the group. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
It is impossible for them to fix the defense in one offseason. They need to replace at least 7 of our starters. The only thing I would do in FA, is sign a few good lockerroom guys if the prices are low.
I dont think anyone is saying to go exclusively with the draft. Successful teams build 90% through the draft and then fill in a hole or two with FAs that can put them over the top. The Skins have so many holes that building through the draft is a must.
Yes, but I'm not saying use FA's to fill a hole or two. I'm saying that FA's seem to be getting younger all the time, so if the Skins could only do a good job of scouting and researching the work ethic and character of young FA's, then they might be able to pick up a few at value prices to supplement each draft. They would be essentially the same as draft picks only better because they have already proven they belong in the NFL. |

Actually in the last five years we've drafted 9 people for the offensive line. That's near two complete lines. The problem is, we suck at drafting. If we leave Long and Moses out of it as too early to call, we took 7 swings and connected only once. 2014 Morgan Moses T 3rd Spencer Long G 3rd 2012 Josh LeRibeus G 3rd Adam Gettis G 5th Tom Compton T 6th 2011 Maurice Hurt G 7th 2010 Trent Williams T 1st Eric Cook C 7th Selvish Capers T 7th |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
We don't have many high picks.
In 5 years we've only had 1 first round and no second rounders? You can't build a quality line around that. |

Not sure where to put this post.
I was looking at the cap info on the Warpath. (I'm sure it takes much effort. Thanks to those responsible, it's great) What was the rationale for keeping Bowen last year coming off an injury with a huge cap hit? |

It could have alsoe been a release fee issue, cutting him cost us as much as keeping him.?.? Between Bowen and Orakpo we had a ton of money tied up on two guys that did very little last season. |

Should we bring back Jarvis Jenkins? To me he's been another draft bust, round 2 pick folks

Yes on the cheap. He's young and we can't replace everyone in a year. |

Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
I'm in favor of giving any young player who might possibly help us a chance. Also, specific to Larsen, we could stand to get bigger at the center position.

I agree, Larsen could be someone who could be coached up.... plus he will be cheap. The Redskins need to bring in 10-20 of these type of players, and maybe 2 or 3 will develop. |

Randy Starks is expected to be cut- how about a one year contract if you can get a hometown discount ?
then cut Bowen, and Coefield ..... and save $$$$$$$$$ Randy Starks Stats - Miami Dolphins - ESPN |

Starks had 4.5 sacks last year, and had more tackles than Coefield, and Bowen combined |

We're going to have to sign a few free agents. But hell no to Randy Starks. No more Hatcher type signings.

I'm 100% for keeping Jarvis Jenkins. He's IMO still developing and has shown flashes. I think good things are ahead for him if he can stay healthy.

HAHA, well said Matt! We need to lockup our own guys like Kerrigan and Williams. PFT had a segment on this that describes our club pretty damn well, we over spend for other club's guys and let our own walk out the door. I would restructure Garcon or leave him be.... Here is what is going to happen, as soon as he leaves we will all be screaming that we don't have a legit #2 WR. Hopefully Ryan Grant develops, he is not there yet, by a long shot. I don't have a lot of faith in Andre Roberts, to many mental errors and drops last year. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
Why don't we hire Darrell Green to be the DBs coach?
Chances are that he really doesn't know how to coach someone without blazing speed. It's journeymen that learned a position the hard way that tend to make better coaches than the freaks of nature for whom all this stuff came easy... And there is no indication todate that DG would want to be a coach or has the personality to be a coach. |

In case anyone is interested in the star power.
Really interesting to see Demarco Murry getting sold short. 16 ranking? I think people are really really overvaluing that Dallas Oline. I mean, sure they are good, but damn you have to take a beating to run the ball that much and still get that productive. IMO Murry was MVP on that offense and I think he can be very valuable outside of Dallas. They put Torrey Smith ahead of Murray? laughable |
