Re: Around the Nfl week 1
There was no way the commissioner was showing his face in New England last night. For his own safety it was probably a good idea for him to stay in NY.

I could have sworn I heard Al Michaels call the NE coach "BeliTRICK" on last night's broadcast.

Re: Around the Nfl week 1
From cbssports.com:
The timing for Pittsburgh's headset issues on Thursday was something else, coming on the heels of a report last week about the Patriots trying to gain an advantage by any means necessary, including headset frequencies. It was almost funny, unless you're Mike Tomlin. The Steelers coach was borderline irate during his postgame press conference, saying it's "always the case" in New England to deal with headset/connection issues. Here's the full exchange between Tomlin and reporters at Gillette: Mike there was a report that your radio went out? “That's always the case.” Here? “Yes.” So you're saying every time you play here you have rad— “I said what I said.” Mike what exactly happened, you just didn't have any communication? “We were listening to the Patriots radio broadcast for the majority of the first half. On our headsets.” |

Sometimes you want something to be true so bad that you'll only accept that as the possible cause. One minute Belichick is a genius the next he's such a bumbling idiot that he would jam radios during a time when everything he does is under a microscope? The Pats aren't unbeatable. Teams beat them all the time. You want to win? quit spending so much time making excuses and beat them. Radio communication had zero to do with Gronk being wide open half the game. |
Re: Around the Nfl week 1
It's not that he's just making great plays on good defense. They are leaving him wide the fuck open. Not a single guy guarding him. At what point do you say....ummm....let's guard this guy?? Steelers defense is bad. So is the Patriots D as well.
Steelers safety play looked familiar. Missed assignments, not communicating, poor tackling...Their corner play wasnt much better, but the safety play stood out. That guy Mitchell who we wanted at safety is effing terrible. Looks especially bad when a top 5 QB in the history of the league is throwing the ball. |
Re: Around the Nfl week 1
Anyone else annoyed that they did all these interviews with the Patriots players asking them about the controversies in the past and they were like, "Oh, we rose about Spygate, we rose above Deflategate, and now we're back on track." So you're just saying, "Yup, even all those times we cheated, we're OK with that and we're back"? So weak. Wanted the Steelers to pound them, but you can't do that when you play pitch and catch with Gronk.
Hell, the Steelers headsets are mysteriously playing the Patriots radio broadcast...lol
What is it with these fucking guys.
Off the Steelers website: "The broadcast was so loud that the Steelers coaches were unable to communicate, and the NFL rule is that if one team’s headsets are not working the other team is supposed to be forced to take their headsets off. It’s what the NFL calls the Equity Rule. Strangely enough, whenever an NFL representative proceeded to the New England sideline to shut down their headsets, the Steelers headsets cleared. Then as the representative walked away from the New England sideline, the Steelers’ headsets again started to receive the Patriots game broadcast" funny yesterday i believe it was DP who brought up teams past accusations against the pats using radio jammers at gillette. |
Re: Around the Nfl week 1
I remember Parcells being pissed at Walsh because 'mysteriously' their sideline communications never worked at Candlestick. With the modern technological advancements its funny that teams are allowed to get away with this. Bellitrix will push the boundaries as far as you let him.
And its not like they didn't work at all, they played the Patriots broadcast which is an extra little jab in itself. |

Re: Around the Nfl week 1
Whatever…so predictable because of the cheating label.
Tomlin gets owned because his defense and play calling sucks and he blames it on his headset and some communication shenanigans (that are controlled by the league). Whatever….that will be the scapegoat every time someone loses to New England. I suppose the headset made Scobee miss too. The again, there was one of these in the area during the game. FedEx has had it's share of mic issues too. But given the circumstances of course people are going to look at the Patriots with an accusing eye.

Can we just start a Patriot scandal thread so it doesn't over run every NFL thread we have. I could give a flying fawk about the Pats or their supposed cheating. That is NFL chatter my mom talks about, save that shit for Star Magazine.

Re: Around the Nfl week 1
the NFL systems are a wireless signal of....some kind. most likely a digital signal. I do not know much about the technical end of such things BUT these types of signals can be subject to many types of....innocent interference. Not the least of which is other, potentially stronger radio type signals.
You can bank on the NFL having about 40 techies today trying to determine the source of the problem....... BUT since it's BB and the Pats.......very shaky |

Re: Around the Nfl week 1
well, nascar's radio footprint and complexity far exceeds the NFL and they never seen to have troubles.
If you're a billion dollar business, you could go spread spectrum frequency hopping/encrypted if you want to be immune to basically all cross talk and single band jamming (they'd have to jam the entire spectrum if you're hopping). most of these setups are just telex or clearcom systems that are (or should be) 95% wired, with the last bit being an antenna to the coach's wireless headset. you get at least 150' line of sight (usually 300'+, but you can stronger amps or more directional antennas if you want). technically if you wanted you can set up a raspberry pi system to transmit 2 miles, but i don't know any standard intercom system needing/using that (land mobile radios are a thing that already exists in that space, and can also be hooked to headsets). if they're having this kind of trouble, it's simply because they're not trying. it's something no one thinks about until they have to use it, but if someone competent was running it, it'd be fine (i assume w/ 32 stadiums and 16 in use every weekend, you have some B teams running around and that's the main cause of the issues). shoot, I can probably tell you exactly what happened. the tech crew thoroughly tested and checked the wireless headsets and made sure they all had separate non-interfering frequencies, BUT they made the mistake of checking them while all the wireless broadcast systems were off, leading to the possibilities of frequency sharing (or the pack could have been put on multiple channels (most packs have A/B, you can be on both at once, though the systems should be completely walled off, so that'd be bad design). the other thing that can happen is if packs from the two systems are VERY close to each other (like a tech having them back to back on his belt) they can cross talk... if you put your cellphone in your pocket right next to where you hang your telex pack, it becomes very unreliable). either way chances are this isn't cheating, it's just standard intercom problems, which are actually very common since it's usually never treated as mission critical, and non techs always seem to have problems with them even when they're working perfectly anyways. |

There is a weird issue in my home that is killing it or it's too close to being the same frequency of my Wifi router. Radio is dead.. You clearly have knowledge on this subject, I always assumed the NFL was using the setup you mentioned at the top, are they actually using basic radio coms? NASCAR went away from basic radio probably 10-15 years ago, why wouldn't the NFL have done the same? |

And Parcells would open the field door of the stadium and create a cross wind for the kickers and receivers that would drive them nuts, everyone bitched but nothing was ever done. |

because they're too busy counting their money? seriously, if it's important to them, it's a fixable problem. |

Jameis Winstons first pass was a pick 6. Mariotta with 2 tds already.
Oddly enough, Winston is pulling a rookie Luck and Mariotta is pulling a rookie RG3. Should be interesting to see how they do the rest of the year and future years. |

I watched a lot of broncos last year especially and I'm really confused as to how many are picking them. Manning has no arm. It was so bad 2nd half last season that they became a running team. Ironically, they have a solid roster but a QB with no arm strength to get it done. |
