interesting statistic, time of possession:

Time of Possession 22:16 Time of Possession Redskins 37:44

Last week:

Time of Possession 22:26 Time of Possession 37:54

What is this mean?

Our running game is pounding opposing defenses to submission and wearing them out.

People bash Gruden but he puts players in a position to make plays and is doing some good things.

Nobody seemed to notice and this was huge. To protect Kirk from the mix blitz packages of Greg Williams. He would consistently call a no huddle on 3rd down to prevent subs and keep Greg off balance.

Made a big difference on 3rd downs. Gruden out coached Williams today

Good point.

I think both sacks were coverage sacks.

I,knock some play calling decisions here and there, some I find downright infuriating at times, but.he's learning.to I guess, how to call the.game.for kirk and co could be a.good thing for.him this year, we won, he gets some slack, maybe he will figure this.coaching thing put while here, maybe.he wont

Just think about how dominant our run game can look once DeSean Jackson comes back from injury.

Once Djax comes back week 4 or 5 we could really see kirk hit some deep passes for tds

Dline is huge in the running game. I love this style of ball. DJax returning to the offense will be very helpful if they keep running this well.

I want to see us finally beat the Giants before I get excited about this year. We went 1-1 last year. Only to get smoked by the Giants in week 3 at home. We haven't beaten them in forever
If the defense and running game look like this week in and week out, then wins & losses are going to come down to two big things: Special teams and Cousins eliminating turnovers.

If Cousins could ask for two throws back it would probably be the one that was almost picked (obviously) and the underthrown ball to Ryan Grant that is likely a TD pass if thrown to him in stride. (I can't remember that that drive ended though, did we get points?).

I still do have question marks about Kirk for games that are close and the running game is being shut down. There will be games on this schedule where he will likely have 30_ attempts and have to make plays like that nice throw to Reed, but more times a game.

However, until those situations come up, Kirk can continue to win with efficiency and I will be happy with it.
They only have 3 QBs on the roster and he gives them the best chance to win. There are maybe 5 QBs on the planet who don't make a couple of bad throws every game and none of them are one of the 3 QBs the Skins have under contract. Reality is probably a good expectation for Cousins. At least until he has more than 11 starts under his belt.

And when Cousins gets sacked, he's not getting obliterated like RG. Showing signs that he can hold up for a full season.

I don't think anyone has a problem with Cousin's "efficient" style of play. However in order to be a contender, there will be times during the season that he has to take that play to the next level and expand on what his comfort zone is.

It is not an immediate need as for the first two games, our defense and running game did enough to hold the game close, but no matter how good your rushing attack is, you will run into teams once in awhile that are stopping the run, or maybe the run blocking is having a bad day and the QB will have to pick up the slack.

This is not an issue that needs to be immediately addressed as this team is not expected to be THAT kind of team right now, however that kind of thing is what separates a guy who the team is just biding it's time with and a guy who gets a long term contract and is looked at as the answer at the position.

F*ck, this team is getting me excited again. Absolutely loved the way we won this game. And take a look at the rest of the division... Philly looked terrible today, Dallas is down Romo and Bryant, and NY is 0-2. If we win our next game...

Re: The Gud, the bad and the Great. Rams Post game reactions

The McLovin plan in effect. Gotta love it. Plus, fuck Fisher. What a tool.

The Oline looks just night and day from last year. Better players and better coach. Wow. They just smacked two serious D-lines in the mouth.

Hatcher is rejuvenated. Pot Roast and the gang getting inside pressure without blitzes. Plus, it's allowing the LBs to make plays. Keenan was excellent--that play in the backfield (a penalty negated it) was awesome. Reily had one of his best games, I think. And Kerrigan is getting singled and having little RBs trying to stop him. And do we actually have real safeties?!?!? Wow. I know we'll have our ups and downs, but that felt good today. Go Barry!

What a relief to kick it out of the endzone like every other team. Nice.

Only bad is the second half post halftimes letdowns. Gotta end that shit. And get some TOs--that really can make a difference.

(Wow--pretty happy about this. I assume the kick in the nuts is coming, from the giants or whatever, but that was the best half of football we've played in a while in that first half! Hail!)

Please don't! We haven't won back to back games in what seems like a lifetime. Let's take it 1 game at a time. The Giants are wounded and staring at 0-3 will feel their season is on the line. Would love to crush them, but our big win today is only a first step. Hopefully, we can take a W in NY and then have 10 days to get healthier.

The @Redskins trolled Jeff Fisher today by beating the Rams without using any of the players acquired in the big trade of 2012.

I was thinking the same thing. Right now, the division is there for the taking. The Eagles offense looked terrible yesterday. Just terrible. Bradford was awful. They can't run the ball. Romo and Bryant are gone. Why not us?

This is going to be a really tough game Thursday. If they can somehow pull this off and have 10 days off and a home game against struggling Philly? 3-1??

Let me address a couple of specific complaints from a couple of youse guys that I consider to be misguided:

1. We need to fix the "third quarter let-downs".

We played two good teams. Good teams are going to make a run at you at some point. Their coaches are going to throw the kitchen sink at you coming out of halftime. The key for the Redskins was to absorb their best shot and then regain control of the game. The Skins did exactly that and put away the Rams in the 4th quarter. That's how it's done.

2. Kirk Cousins is not going to be able to carry the team without a running game to help him.

No shit, Sherlock! Nobody is comparing Kirk Cousins to Tom Brady. The Redskins formula is to have a strong running game and a QB who can complement it with short to medium passes. Kirk is supposed to read the defense and make accurate throws to the correct receivers. If you would like to call Kirk a "game manager", go ahead. He isn't going to be an All-Pro but if he can be efficient we can win with him. Let's be happy to have Kirk the Truck Driver to keep this runaway truck of an offense on the road.

We won! Life is good. HTTR!

A couple of counter points to your points.

1) Gruden tries to be cute with his play calling. I dont disagree when he tries to get outside with Morris or Jones once or twice against a defense built on speed. Show different things to make them think, but dont try to make it a regular part of the game plan. We score our first TD with power runs (2 power runs and one head scratcher of a call where we lost 2 yards). We come back the very next drive and he went through one of his "cute" moments. It was a bad drive.

The rams and dolphin games had some head scratchers for play calls. When he called a good game, we did what we did. When he had some of those head scratcher moments, our offense didnt look that good. The "regaining control of the game" coincided with him getting back to what we do best.

2) The fact that you start that answer with "No shit, Sherlock!" means you agree with the statement that you seem to be trying to argue against. Not really much is needed to say as a counter point since you apparently agree.

Saying that KC is not going to carry this team is neither a blasphemous statement nor is it an anti-KC statement, its simply the truth. He is the best guy we have to run Grudens system. And as you agree, that doesnt mean he is Tom Brady.

Interesting grading...

Top Performers:

DT Jason Hatcher (+3.7)
TE Jordan Reed (+2.3)
ILB Keenan Robinson (+1.9)
TE Derek Carrier (+1.9)
OLB Ryan Kerrigan (+1.5)

But Hatcher does it again.

Interesting on Kory L...but I gotta agree. He has been the weak link along the line. But he's had extremely tough match ups on the inside

Never stop trying to improve... The great teams dont stop trying to improve simply because of one game.

We had 4 days last year where we won. It wasnt a good year.

Also, I wasnt bitching so much as I was responding. If all we do is hold hands and sing Kumbaya together, this forum wouldnt be any fun.

Relax... We come here to talk Redskins, and that includes disagreements. I didnt say KI should go jump off a bridge or anything. He is an intelligent poster, doesnt mean I agree with him 100%.

Good- Finally Getting a W (can't remember the last time that happened)

Bad- Penalties Much better than last week but we still can and need to do better

Great- Nice to see our Defense dominating for a change and people flying to the ball, Our New Kicker making us say Kai who?
Kirk, managed the game nicely and made the plays when he had too.
Alfmo and Jones Combo, a lethal combonation and fun to watch

Preston Smith and Trent still splitting time. I thought both played decent.

And yes on Kyshoen Jarrett was getting playing time, I didnt know what capacity it was...he held up. I didnt know if he was just a package guy or in as the nickle all the time. I like it

Agreed. The Rams were never really in the game and I never felt like the Skins lost control even after the Britt TD.

Our formula is clearly based on the running game and defense. Nothing wrong with that, a lot of teams have won a lot of games with that approach.
