They desperately need a RB out in Indy.
The problem is that Indy is losing right now. If they start winning and are in playoff contention, they'd be mos likely to make a trade. Problem is that they royally screwed up by trading for Richardson; however, Morris is 1000 times better than Richardson. |
Re: Gruden/Redskins Doing Alfred Morris Dirty
Morris is a still a good football player. Not sure this team is in a position to be letting good players walk out the door. But the fact that they haven't even tried to get a long term deal done pretty much says it all. Maybe he can go to Atlanta with Kyle.
Exactly why I would have traded him, before we lose him for nothing |
Re: Gruden/Redskins Doing Alfred Morris Dirty
Alfred Morris is one of the only consistent bright spots on this team drafted in 2012, a fan favorite, humble hard worker and great teammate. He's never missed a game since being drafted and has put up some very good stats behind below average offensive lines and limited talent surrounding him:
2012 - 1613 rushing yards 13 tds 2013 - 1275 rushing yards 7 tds 2014- 1074 rushing yards 8 tds Week 1 against Miami, he rushed for 121 yards. Very likeabale down to earth guy who has his head on straight. The Redskins still have not paid Morris his worth as he's still playing on his rookie deal. What really pissed me off is last night, Gruden had Morris coming off the bench behind Matt Jones, a rookie who had 1 good game against the Rams and who has fumbled in both games. Is this how you show appreciation for a guy who has been carrying this team the past three years without a complaint, has given his heart and soul to this team, 6 carries coming off the bench behind a rookie who has not proved anything? And knowing this is a contract year where he's due to get paid? Would the Seahawks do this to Lynch? The Vikings to Peterson? I think Morris deserves better and the Redskins may be pissing off one of the only good homegrown guys we have. C'mon, do right by him. The players who get busted for pot and other legal issues (Trent) get taken care of no matter what. Do right by Alfred. Play him and pay him.
Couldn't agree more, that was a dick move by whoever made the decision to start Jones, assuming Gruden. Absolutely no reason for it, and its a slap to the face to the best offensive "Redskins" guy we have. I love Morris even more that he hasn't complained to the media. If they just use him up and pay him his crappy rookie contract (by pro athlete standards) that he already way outplayed then just kick him to the curb, that's gonna be one of the worst things this team has done recently to one of its good guys. He deserves better, and he better be back to starting against Philly. |
Re: Gruden/Redskins Doing Alfred Morris Dirty
Who cares if he wasn't one of "their" guys. They didn't draft Kerrigan or Williams either. That's just a nice excuse to justifying guys being removed from the roster. Morris, barring some ridiculous contract demand should be re-signed. The salary cap is going up and Jones is on his rookie contract. They can reward Morris for what he has done for this team the past few seasons.

I'm a fan of Morris but this is a business. Paying him for results under his previous contract will not better the team. Can't pay him on what he used to be worth only what he's worth going forward. I'm ok with taking care of him but we need all the cap space we can get. |

I do get the "its a business" but i don't think he will break the bank to resign to like a 3 year deal. He has earned the right to be set up for a nice future outside of football by this team. There are some guys who earn a bit more "generosity" for lack of better term than how you treat the standard guy. He has done that in spaids to me. Not to mention he is still really good. He dominated against Miami. Then Jones has a couple nice runs ONE game and Morris gets benched. Doesn't sit well with me. And Jones got drafted in 3rd round so they can throw some cash at Morris and still not be putting much towards the RB position. |
Re: Gruden/Redskins Doing Alfred Morris Dirty
Alf has been one of my favorite Skins and remains so....
BUT he is not worth one damn nickel more than "a" team is willing to pay him. He has been well compensated for his performance to date. Additionally, he will cash in on his next deal. The stupidest thing (and the skins have done it repeatedly in the past) we could possibly do is base his upcoming deal on the past rather than the future..... Beyond contractual obligations, we owe him nothing and he owes us the same. |
Re: Gruden/Redskins Doing Alfred Morris Dirty
If Morris isn't in McC plans...move him now. Probably could get 4th or (finger cross ) a 3rd...

It's a fair deal and does reward him and keeps us set at the position for a long time. |

Some Skins fans love Scott so much already, he can walk in and gut punch their mothers and they'd be like, if he says it benefits the Skins, its ok by me.

Re: Gruden/Redskins Doing Alfred Morris Dirty
If they like Matt Jones better and view him as the future....then don't phase Alf out.
Imo the right strategy is too use him up until the wheels fall off. He's a proven back in this league. Give a boatload of carries get his numbers up, thus creating value. Then trade him before the trade deadline while you still hold his rights. |
Re: Gruden/Redskins Doing Alfred Morris Dirty
I feel like people don't watch the same games. Alfred is obviously struggling with this running scheme. He looks timid and lacks any burst hiting the hole a lot of time. He also seems to run "softer" then he did his rookie year. I remember him running people over. Now he kinda runs in to people and just stands still.
I don't know what it is this year. He really does seem to lack burst. He also limits the offense because when he's on the field. He's no threat to catch the ball unlike the other two RBs. So teams basically can just scheme to stop the run when he's in the game. |

A RB can't build any momentum getting spot carries throughout the game. A bellcow has to get fed. There are a lot of good RB's that don't have the best hands out of the backfield, that's why most teams have 3rd down backs. Those are roles Jones/Thompson can fill, in addition to Jones doing his normal subbing in for Morris throughout the game. I just hope Morris is starting week 4. And I'll leave it at that. |
Re: Gruden/Redskins Doing Alfred Morris Dirty
Just my humble opinion... I think that the Redskins should resign Alfred Morris, for the right price of course, and use him in tandem with Matt Jones. Personally I'd switch between the two or even, occasionally, put them both in the backfield at the same time.
|
Re: Gruden/Redskins Doing Alfred Morris Dirty
Nobody is doing Morris wrong. Outside of the opener he's been outplayed simple as that. He needs to pick it up and earn those carries back. I think Jones is clearly the future though.

As nice as that is to think about, I think Alfmo knows he can pickup a bigger payday and a solid #1 starting spot on other teams. Nobody wants to play second fiddle or rotating fiddle when they know they're good enough to be the sole starter on teams that desperately need it. |

I'm definitely in that camp. He's a talent evaluator with a great track record. His only shortcoming thus far has been his alcohol issues. What has anyone other coach/management position on this team shown to be reliable for yet? |
Re: Gruden/Redskins Doing Alfred Morris Dirty
Not only that, in ONE SEASON the defense already looks substantially improved. The offensive line doesn't seem like a liability. We still have some holes to fill, but I can't imagine Bruce Allen would have done half of what Scot has done in his first year. This is all without him even having his own scouts...

he does have his own scouts. after the draft he was happy with the guys the skins had before he got there and decided to keep all of them. he has the ability to fire/replace them, so at this point they are his scouts. |

In 8 months, Scot has done more than anyone not named Gibbs has with this team since Snyder has taken ownership. His football decisions are strong and have made obvious improvements. He is willing to churn the roster and bring in new faces for a workout, his coaches have outperformed expectations and the team is playing the way he wants them to look which is fortunately the way many of us want to see them play and that's physical football with a strong north/south running game and a strong defense. Is the team there yet? nope. and I'm sure Scot would agree. There's work to be done but for the first time in a very long time, there is a singular focus and a purpose with this organization. My only concern is that Snyder ends up pissing him off one day and he leaves before we get there. |

He added a couple and shuffled some around. And kind of demoted Scott Campbell to Director or College Scouting so he doesn't have oversight of the pro personnel (where he wasn't really involved much anyway) |

Bruce Allen's only draft was significantly better than Shanny's last two. |

Here is bruce allen's 2014 draft.
2nd Murphy - Starter 3rd Moses - Starter 3rd Long - Backup 4th Breeland - Starter 5th Grant - Backup |

Re: Gruden/Redskins Doing Alfred Morris Dirty
Hard not to love Morris. He's my favorite Redskin. Going to really suck to see him leave next year.
I know RG3 got ROY in 12 and no argument on that, but Morris could have easily got it as well. 1,600 yards and 12 td's. |

Re: Gruden/Redskins Doing Alfred Morris Dirty
I really like Alfred Morris and he has been a bright spot on this team for the last 4 seasons. However this season he just seems to be more tentative and slower in his reduced playing time. Unfortunately,
I see him being traded next season for whatever the market will bear. I wish him well as he was one of the few very good players in a dismal team effort the last few years. RB's just don't last that long in the NFL these days. |

There is no way a coach or front office would deliberately sabotage a player that would result in a negative impact on what happens on the field. It is all about winning in the NFL, no coach is going to sit a pass rushing threat in a nickle situation to darken his stats. Some of these guys have huge egos and can't admit someone is better than them or their skills have diminished. No one picked up Carriker after he left the Redskins, dude is totally full of crap. No one wanted him because he could no longer play at an NFL level not because the Redskins made him look bad. |

Adam Carriker did a fine job of limiting himself. I don't think he needed much help. He had his best season in the league in 2011 and then fell off the map after that. Were the coaches trying to keep him from playing after a new contract was signed? What a little bitch.. |
Re: Gruden/Redskins Doing Alfred Morris Dirty
Bob,
It happens all the time. And the coaches do it because they don't think it's going to negatively impact winning games. So they are knowingly hurting the team. In Alf case I think it's a mix of poor coaching and desire or belief that Matt Jones might be as good or better. |
