Re: Predict RGIII's next team
Houston makes the most sense to me. They have absolutely nobody at QB and they need to win now. I believe RGIII would start there and that he would help them more than anyone they could draft. I also think that the Texans' strong defense and the fact that they are located in Texas where RGIII has family and many fans would appeal to him.
I'd love to see RGIII revive his NFL career. He's a good man and he deserves another shot as an NFL starter. p.s. It's a 3 hour drive from his hometown of Cpperas Cove, TX to Houston.
I think Houston makes the least amount of sense just because of the offense that they run. Obrien would want a pure drop back QB, not one that struggles from the pocket. I think the Rams have the most desperate QB situation right now, Fischer has had mobile QB's in the past and that's where he'll probably end up. |

I agree. When it comes to RGIII, the biggest question is not where he will play in 2016. For me the bigger question that be needs to be answered is: can RGIII develop into a successful NFL pocket passer? If not, he will not be able to stay healthy or play well enough to keep a starting job. He will bounce around the NFL until no team wants him and plays in Canada. That makes where he plays next year pointless. His 2012 success was in large part dependent on him being a running threat and that contradicts directly to his injury prone history and inability to take the pounding running NFL QB's take. Not to mention his terrible penchant of holding on to the ball way too long and improvising. That shit is a sack, injury and turnover waiting to happen. That shit has to stop or he will not survive in the NFL. So doing it (being a pocket passer) all summer in practice is one thing. Doing successfully in a game is another animal and up to now he has not proven he can do it. Time will tell. He would be better served to go to a talented team that already has a starter, like Dallas or KC or Philly and develop behind a good Qb. If thrown into a starting role, recent history (2013, 2014 and 2015) shows he is not ready. |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
well reports from this year is RGIII really didn't take advantage of his time to really relearn his game this last year, so... i'd guess he's most likely to bounce around unless he finds someone that wants to run a version of zone read (until he gets hurt again and gets even slower).
patrick ramsey never got better or had a 2012 type year and he managed to hang around for over 7 years, so... i wouldn't be predicting the CFL any time soon. |

I hoped, even though I know he won't be on the Skins, that the year off to heal, and learn the position as more of a pocket passer would let him come back in the league as a better QB. |

Fisher would want him just so he can stare himself in the eye in a mirror somewhere and touch himself gently knowing he got ALL the players including the picks. |

Can you imagine the Redskins playing the Rams and Fisher sending out RGIII and all the players the Rams got in the trade for him for the coin toss? |

Yes I could. Fisher is a big enough douche to do that. Then we would crush them 31 to 3. |

Didn't the Rams just cut one or two of those players? |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
For me Griffin is a QB in arrested development that could possibly start for several teams given the right circumstances.
By arrested development I'm referring to his past. He played in a hybrid offense as a rookie and was phenomenal; then he got hurt. Missed training camp as sophomore and played again in a hybrid offense. 3rd year brought a new regime and scheme change to a true rhythm drop back passing offense. Griffin was afforded 5 games of development with an ankle injury sandwiched in between before the new HC benched and gave up on him after 2 bad games. The key for Griffin is to either find a team that will meet him at his current level of development and build an offense around him that allows him to be productive while developing. If you look at a QB like Tyrod Taylor I have to believe that Griffin right now could match his level of production in that style of offense or if you look at KC's offense I think Griffin could quickly match Alex Smith's level of production. I also think both of those QBs would have much less success rote "true" drop back passing offenses. But the question remains is their a team willing to give him that chance and also has the know how and the desire to implement an offense around him? And will they stick with him through a rocky start as Jay/McVay stuck with Kirk then eventually opened up the offense as he developed. I could see Griffin starting and playing well next year...but I could also see him being a back-up that a team could hand the reigns to if he develops in the background or I could see him bouncing around as journeyman Rex Grossmans/Josh Freemanesque back-up for several years. I wish him the best. He remains one of the most talented QB prospects I've ever seen and could either become a cautionary tale or redemption story. |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
I thought Fisher and Mike Shanahan were close? I can't imagine Mike S giving Fisher a positive endorsement for signing Griff.

The franchise tag for Cousins is yet another nail in the coffin for RGIII.
The key for Griffin is to either find a team that will meet him at his current level of development and build an offense around him that allows him to be productive while developing.
Why should a team build an offense (system, personnel, philosophy) around a guy who can't stay on the field and hasn't been productive since 2012. Should the team that takes a flyer on him change their offense to mimic Kyle Shanahan's? Should they draft based on that style offense? How do you build around him anyway? That's wishful thinking. This is the NFL and he hasn't done anything but look bad lately. Nobody is going to build around, nurture, or coddle him like the Redskins have because they don't have the amount of draft picks or an entire scheme change devoted to him. He is just another guy now and will have to prove it like anybody else. He will be competing for a job in camp. Hopefully he has been working on his weaknesses that were exposed as recently as the 2015 preseason. |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
DY, if a team sees him the way you do they wouldn't sign him.
Griffin is still a talented QB. Remember who he was as a prospect? It takes a talented QB to put up his 2012 numbers. Right now he's a better passing version of Tyrod Taylor in my eyes. The perception of Griffin post 2012 is much worse then the reality. Griffin's received a bizarrely slim margin for error during his "development". |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
Well if a team sees him the way you do they wouldn't.
If you are a GM and see a ton of potential squandered by the Skins; how to you start building around him this spring? |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
I feel like I have seen enough "Bust" QB's, and even though my analysis of the NFL and certain players have been compared by some on here to a "teen girl spreading gossip", and I mean that with all due respect to the posters who have called me out.
That being said, I think Griffin is a "bust", but only in the sense that so far he has not performed like a 1st round pick barring that magical 2012 season. I think he will get another shot, as they all do, but he will have to get his shot by signing with a team as a backup, and then either earning the job in pre-season or getting put on the field due to injury. What he does with that chance will define his career, i feel. He is not worthy of unquestioned starter status, but he may yet resurrect his career somewhere else. If he doesn't, he seems to be a good character guy and will likely be a good backup if he wants it... |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
If you are a GM and see a ton of potential squandered by the Skins; how to you start building around him this spring?
To answer your question........
Ideally, it starts with belief that he does have "tons of potential". That belief is essential and hand and hand in that belief is patience. In essence you approach Griffin similar to the way an organization (should imo)approach a young QB. I'll let Holmgren explain it for me: "You list them, you evaluate them, you discuss them as a scouting and coaching group, and you pick one. Now—and this is very, very important—once he's with you, you never, ever let anyone believe he's not the right guy, not the quarterback of the future. In the building, obviously, that's a given. But in public too. Every time you talk about him, he's your guy.....You've got to be willing to pick a guy and be behind him. Coach your a-- off, fix what needs to be fixed..." (Good article either way, and there's not even a PFF reference: Mike Holmgren's advice to quarterback-needy teams: Draft one | The MMQB with Peter King) Scheme is secondary to the above. There are several ways to skin a cat from an Xs and Os perspective; there isn't just "a" certain must take path. It could be Broncos style offense with Brock or an offense like Reid does with Alex Smith or an offense like the Bills with Tyrod Taylor its not even out of the question for him to play in more flexible WCO like with Gruden except you let him ride through the rough patches. A starting point though is Griffin's impact on backside pursuit in the run game. That threat regardless of how its used schematically (bootlegs--outside zone, read-option) can be a main element in the offense that Griffin brings to the table. |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
30gut, you're not about to go down that long and tiresome road again are you?
DYoungJelly, I can hardly believe you asked him that question. Didn't you see the trip wire across the trail? Next topic, please! |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
no team is going to mortgage their future trying to build around a guy that's showed no progress in being an NFL QB and has his injury history. they might add him as a backup and throw in some option plays and let give him 5 snaps a game as a change up, but no one is going in whole hog on a guy that's now in prove it mode.
|
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
No progress? Griffin only played 5 games in Jays offense before he got benched of those 5 games only 2 were bad. You say no progress; I say not given time to develop.
Whether a team goes whole hog or not only time will tell. Right now a team would be able to acquire a very talented QB for very little cost. |

And the season before under Shanahan trying to be more of a pocket passer, than he was 2012. And he was bad to mediocre in all of 2014, except in garbage time against Dallass the last game.
Whether a team goes whole hog or not only time will tell. Right now a team would be able to acquire a very talented QB for very little cost.
It would be great if a team would make us a deal for RG3. But you know that isn't happening. |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
we still have rg3 apologists after all this time? he's proven he still can't read a defense, and reports from cooley and players on the team is he spent this last year on the scout team just going through the motions instead of making a real effort to get better. he's all hype and maybe andy reid can fix him, but anyone that thinks they should build their team around him at this point should be immediately fired.

Pretty sad ending for our investment. Back in the day I told anyone that would listen that he was going to take us to three superbowls. My wife likes to "remind" me of that. |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
At this point, 2012 is soooooo 2012.
I say Chiefs as well if RGIII can accept sitting for another year. If he wants to start, and will only sign with a team giving that opportunity ... hellooooo Cleveland. |

I was all in on RGIII and really, really wanted him to succeed. I kept holding out hope through last year's training camp but then he played in preseason and it was plain he simply had not progressed. I can still remember how dejected I felt when it became clear he was just not going to be the guy. I wish him the best. Thanks for the magic of 2012. Good luck wherever he lands. While Cousins was benched in 2014 he hired his own QB coach during the season. Who does that? Never seen anyone do that during an actual season. Cousins was determined to get better. Not sure what Griffin was doing all year long, but I know he wasn't going to the lengths that Cousins was. Not saying that this is wrong by Griffin. I just get the feeling with him that he probably thinks nothing was ever his fault. He was outplayed the last TWO pre seasons by Cousins and that's why he lost the job for good. Griffin can probably still run pretty fast and throw it far. He might look good at the combine and pro days. But when the rush is actually coming at him, and he has to drop back 5 - 7 steps, he's exposed. The instincts to play QB aren't there. So to me it doesn't matter what his physical skills are, his skill to actually play QB are not there. |

It is the HC prerogative to bench whomever he likes. But he was indeed benched after 5 games. It turned out good because Cousins proved to be quality QB.
I doubt a team trades for Griffin either. The time to trade him would have been last year prior to the season. I could see Griffin ending up somewhere on the QB carousel between Goff, Wentz and Kaep and the Browns, Texans, Rams, 49ers |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
if he's smart, he goes to KC, if he's dumb, he goes to cleveland. SF is somewhere in between. it might work out, it might be a disaster.
|
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
I think Cleveland drafts Wentz and starts him day one.
|
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
Wherever he goes, I think RG3 will be "All in for Week 1 Pt. 2" and much like Pt. 1 it won't work out for the best. Other than that I pretty much agree with JoeRedskin and That Guy. I feel his best shot at long term success would be being the backup somewhere and basically "redshirting" to learn how to play again.

DYoungJelly, I can hardly believe you asked him that question. Didn't you see the trip wire across the trail? And, I'm really sorry, I couldn't help it. |
Re: Predict RGIII's next team
I dont think it matters because sadly he will never be more than a backup again, if he is even able to latch on somewhere. Teams will see that it is indeed a matter of poor play and not him getting run out of town or bamboozled in some way by the Skins. He will have a chance somewhere but my instincts tell me he struggles mightily as he has for quite some time now.
For the sake of answering the question though ...the niners will give him a shot. Than after they give him a shot... Well...see above comments. |

Do you want me to recount the ugly game-by-game recap of 2014 for Rg3? It might explain why Gruden's decision to name Cousins the starter in 2015 was easy after RG3 got injured(again) that preseason.
