Not surprising about Hatcher, Knighton and DY. Hatcher was a all around bad signing. Great guy in all but the production vs the salary was never there. Knighton was on a one year "prove it" deal. Obviously SM didn't see enough to want to re-sign him. Jay's offense doesn't use a fullback. None of these are shockers.

I'm wondering if the Jets resigned their nose tackle? If not maybe we're going to make a run at him. Forgot his name...
Harrison... not sure what he will cost ? $5-$10 million per year. I doubt they will pay close to $10 million for anyone

I don't feel like Long would command a big contract. Lots of injury history recently.

I think these defensive cuts pretty much project we will take a DL in the first round.
And yes, I am Captain Obvious.

Definitely sounds like a one year prove it type of deal.

Reportedly Goldson and Roberts will be cut today.

And they are trying to resign Foster

Bummer about DY but yeah not surprising. He'll find work no problem.

chris long has had 4 sacks in the last two years, i really doubt we're offering him a huge deal.

add Jeron Johnson to the list of cuts - savings $1 million

Dashon Goldson cut too...

Goldson was solid but not a surprise. Skins are rebuilding the secondary for sure. as for long I'm all for a one yr deal with him

interesting....is Duke Nachos still with us? I imagine they feel like Jarrett will be able to return to 100%

Seems like a lot of good people we are saying goodbye to today. Alfmo, Darrel Young, Pot Roast, Jason Hatcher, Dashon Goldson. Hope these guys are able to pick up solid work somewhere else.

Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

One thing I'm noticing that's a change from the past: players are THANKING the team when they leave versus openly bashing it.

Schneed10 03-07-2016 03:10 PM

Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

I'm thinking this is not clearing space for the purposes of a big foray into free agency, but instead for the purposes of resigning Junior Gallette, who is probably going to cost them more than they wanted to pay. But I think Gruden and McC loved what they saw of him in training camp and are willing to make it happen.

Low hanging fruit so far with the cuts.

Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

Cutting Hatcher and Knighton create big holes in the defense. Hatcher best interior rusher and Knighton close second to Baker for run D.

Not mad about Dash, he just made too much for his production and I believe Hall can become a good FS. If our S can stay healthy I really like Hall, KY she on and Duke.

I'm going to miss Darrel Young and Alfred Morris. Morris was such a high character player. I'll probably always be big fans of his.

Anybody want to buy a Robert Griffin III jersey?

Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

I wonder if any of those cut by us today will shop the market then come back to us for less. Just testing the market. Knighton Dash and Hatch to name a few. It is a process.

Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

I doubt we had much interest in bringing Hatcher back. Hinting at retirement and then changing your mind isn't great going forward for a younger team.

I think they want Knighton to lose alot of weight, he is way to inconsistent on the field.

30Gut is going to buy all he can get his hands on. He'll make a fortune at RGIII's HOF induction!

everyone they've cut either didn't live up to their contract or weren't used much.

andre roberts should be the next to go. kory has a big hit, but i think they like him. still, another possibility.

Is he a younger Jason Hatcher at this point?

Potential upside, but mired in injuries and a little too old.

Would love to get Long so he can walk out for the coin toss alone, with a fake mustache on and Human billboard sign with Jeff fishers's .430 win percentage for the next Skins vs Rams game.

Iggles blowing it all up and starting over, except for the curious choice to stick with Bradford.

Would be OK with us bringing back Dash for less cash.

If we let go of Roberts, that's a lot of $ freed up in one day. I wonder if we've ever freed up this much cap space in a single day. Wonder what McC has planned for it?

What a refreshing change it is to actually be excited about what we're going to do in the draft and FA, as opposed to the Vinny years when it was the proverbial train wreck that we couldn't look away from.

Wow...gotta admit, I'm glad to see him out of the division. Think he is fairly decent back, but the genius chip Kelly completely misused him. I think if the Eagles could have used him in a similar system like Peterson had in Kansas City, he coulda been a monster. Little bit of a quick trigger mistake by Philly.

I wonder if there is trade in the works for Kam Chancellor. They cut Goldson and Johnson, maybe Johnson comes back at a reduced cap number, but that leaves Dhall and Duke.

Lots of change today...never pleasant, but necessary to build a winner.

I'm sure they have their eye on a few FA's that they see as upgrades.

If you move kyshoen jarrett back to Saftey, your short a DB. What is going be easier to fill?

Corner, and he is just versatile and can play both corner and safety a la Tyrann Mathieu but is more of a natural fit at safety close to the line of scrimmage

Without the details, doesn't the eagles trade of Murray benefit the eagles? They get him foe the first year of his service presumably at the cheapest per year rate of said contract then get to trade for some kinda comp?

Seems madden like to me. Sign big name then trade for comp and not incur future cap consequences.

Of course I don't know the details.

the signing bonus etc are still paid by the original team, so it's not a cap free move for the iggles. it also doesn't guarantee a comp pick. comp picks are determined by FA losses over FA gains... i'm pretty sure trades don't even count in the comp formula at all, since that player didn't actually leave via FA/expired contract.

Re: Redskins Free Agency 2016

Drove into work today, and I forget the which Skins media member said it but he was saying to watch McC and the Seattle ties especially with Kam Chancellor. Kam would be the leadership replacement for Goldson, Hatcher, and Potroast vacuum.

He was also saying that the Skins might give more 4-3 looks on defense. McC and Barry are looking for a better way to stop the run and changes to scheme are on the table.
Guess that explains the interest in Long too (not saying I like it)...
Long is 6'3 268. He's basically built exactly like Preston Smith. Even if 4-3 changes are on the table (they line up in a 4-3 alignment a lot anyway), then Long fits as McC's preferred body type for a 3-4 OLB.

His experience of course is in the 4-3 though so of course that lends credence to the thought that they'd consider 4-3 as the new base.
