not hitting the panic button but if we re-graded our draft right now it would get a big fat turd.
You're 100% right. Looking at the draft classes from the teams he was part of before he came here, there were really bad bust years. It's what happens over the long term that matters. There is inherent value in FO continuity if the philosophy is good. Tough Defense, run the ball (coaches need to get on board), smart, high character, tough guys. If we don't spend like Denver, Arizona and NYG in free agency then it is going to be a slower rebuild and continuity is even more important. We have an awesome cap situation and a lot of younger players on the rise. We just need to stay the course with the FO philosophy and make small changes if necessary (scouts, talent evaluators, etc. . .). |

Re: Brown Frown Pregame Thread
Honestly, this is a game that for many years now I would just expect them to lose, and who knows...they might. It's a game they should win though, especially at home. To start the season 0-3 at home is unacceptable, and that should be the narrative in the locker room. There should be no doubt about whether they'll be up for it, or whether they'll game plan & play to win --or-- not to lose. They need to go out and impose their will for four quarters, period.
I'll almost forget all about losing to Dallas (not really) if they can take care of business this week. At the start of the season, I would have probably taken a 2-2 record after four games (hoping for 3-1)... |

Doc - wasn't expected to play a big role this year anyway - more of a pick for the future
Cravens - stud Fuller - jury is still out - I think most thought it was a great value pick Ioannidis - gone. Worst pick ever <----- that's a bit of a stretch given the fairly recent history of bad picks prior to Scotty showing up Sudfeld - never hurts to pick a project QB that you think may turn into something or at least be a serviceable backup. At least he's still here... Daniels - gone...unfortunate, but not a huge surprise a 6th round pick doesn't crack the 53 Marshall - who knows yet...remember he was a 7th round pick... Hope Fuller shows some potential this weekend.
|

Let me elaborate though - the fact that it was an SM pick has a lot to do with my calling it that. Before he showed up I hoped to God that at least one player would pan out. Lol. I expected the worst pick ever. I guess I expect more in the fourth round from the current regime. I feel like there were just a lot of better choices there. Also forgot he was on the PS like Bangee mentioned. My bad. Hey like Matty said and C Red its week three. Lol. If we did keep going back and re-grading the draft it is not a good grade very early on. Personally I don't think it will look any better in the years to come. Hope i am dead wrong. Im not going to let it bother me though because its Browns week. A time when all other fans, of all other teams rejoice and look forward to a happy Sunday. Re: Brown Frown Pregame Thread
Wait. Loannidis is gone? I never saw that. Or we just assuming he sucks?
Do we need to list the number of DT/DE picked in later rounds? Dude hasn't even played very much. Let's not throw him out. Unless I missed something then carry on lol |
Re: Brown Frown Pregame Thread
Ioannidis was cut during final cuts, then signed to the practice squad. The Skins brought him up to the 53 after Golston injury

That's what I thought too. He was activated last game on the 53 man. Not starting...but he's there. Remember when we drafted Morgan Moses and they said he wasn't someone that was going to contribute immediately.......now he's balling on the line. Just saying. |

Was on the Browns message board last night. They all seem to think that they are going to roll up some points on us and win.

Docston could be a bust..anybody remember M westbrook? WHY WHY with all the other needs did we use that pick on WR?? MAJOR BLUNDER that will hurt this team. Wr's can be had in the later rounds just like RB's . WE needed DL and OL bad.

3 games in and doctson is a bust. come on, dawg. if he does turn out to be malcolm kelly and devin thomas rolled into one, yes, that would blow. it'll be doctson and crowder for years to come. |

The draft is a gamble, this guy was rated the #1 receiver by some experts. Injuries happen, shit happens. Doesn't mean he's a bust, remember Art Monk? |

Vegas has us favored by 7.5.
Could you all please calm the fuck down. Please and fuck you. |
Re: Brown Frown Pregame Thread
Our matchups are good for this game. The strength of the Browns defense is against the run, but they don't rush the passer and their secondary is thin. What do we do well? Protect the passer and get open.
Meanwhile they have a very mediocre runner in Crowell and Terrelle Pryor has shown a little something, but he hasn't had to face a CB as talented as Norman. We're in pretty good shape. Like any NFL game it still comes down to turnovers, we have to take care of the ball. If we do, we'll be fine. |
Re: Brown Frown Pregame Thread
Regarding Doctson it's pretty simple, he was the best player on SM's board at that pick. We're a whole 3 games into his career, simmer down.

Like I said, it's still very early. Really we won't know much about this draft class until next year. But so far it's been disappointing. Especially Doc. His injury has lingered since rookie minicamp. Don't see how you can not agree with that so far. If next year this time we have Fuller and Doc playing and playing well, along with Cravens then that would be a success. Still very possible. Long way to go on the 16 draft class... |

Re: Brown Frown Pregame Thread
I can't say the draft class has been disappointing yet. My impression is Fuller is a player, but he's competing with Dashaun Phillips who simply beat him out. And you're not going to deactivate key special teams guys like Dunbar in favor of Fuller.
Now we'll get a chance to see Fuller with the injuries. I think he'll show he can play just fine. Doctson, that's just unlucky with the injury. Ionnidis, they like the way he moves but they knew he needed to put on a little bit of weight. I'll say the RB from Georgia, David Marshall? I was hoping for more out of him. Losing out to Rob Kelley was pretty lame. |

He got all of 1 snap last year- that didn't scream starter this year to me. I'm also not sold on Long at C yet, simply because he hasn't played it long enough and he wasn't exactly tearing it up at LG last year. But, all that said, when you think what it takes to show improvement on the o-line..... Long cannot be any worse than Licht As you said, if Kujo struggles, we could go to plan B (TW at LG & Ty at LT) The other obvious improvement that can prolong drives is to limit the penalties the o-line has been getting. That alone could be a huge step forward. |
