Just needs to be more aggressive for the most part and learn how to tackle better(hit harder). MSU's defense had an off year in 2016 for the most part.

I would have gladly taken Asiata(G), Brantley(DT) or King(DB) with my limited research. But hey i'm just a bartender what do I know.

Every other pick has me very excited, this one just seemed.... eh.

Brantley must have warrants for his arrest to drop this far
Nicholson should be seen strictly as depth. Guy has potential, but that isn't saying much since we have a glaring need at S. He grows a pair and gets more physical with his play, he will contribute. MSU defensively this past season was somewhat disappointing to say the least, and he was a part of that.
And special teams. These are the rounds where you look to fill out ST and hope for an eventual starter in the process.

I agree. Boy, what a reach...I have to wonder if t gray maybe help eye this guy as a target. Maybe someone he scouted and admired a couple years ago.

Head scratcher overall. I was hoping for an interior Oline man there.

Re: 2017 NFL draft rounds 4-7

Asiata is still there; also some decent NT's (Vincent Taylor, Stevie Tu'ikolovatu)

Thing is all the really good safeties are gone. Nicholson does have a lot of potential, just has to unlock his inner beast. He is about the same as Swearinger. If he really puts the effort into it he can be a starter.

Thing is we are not set at safety. Even with the acquisition of Swearinger, we really don't have a really good S. Cravens will probably pan out, but I am worried if he can stay on the field, thus is why I stated before he is for depth. Once Peppers and the other top safeties were picked, the FO did the best they could. I wouldn't get discouraged that much about this pick. He was a decent S, just didn't have a killer instinct.

Yes, solid pick.
We need a little TE depth.
Our draft class is now sprinkled with talent.

Solid pick again...lotta potential. Can block and catch the ball. Really a solid prospect...we killed it here

Re: 2017 NFL draft rounds 4-7

I think Sprinkle can potentially contribute in two TE sets in the Redzone immediately. He's a good blocker and a good receiver. He can contribute on Rushing and PA plays especially. He also lined up at Fullback a bit, so maybe he can also help Perine punch it in.

i would snag kaaya if he's still there in the 6th. i would have said peterman or kaaya, but bills got peterman.

some form of interior o-lineman also in the 6th.

It is way overhyped. Most of the kids drafted rounds 5-7 won't get a second contract if they even make the initial team cut. Very few bona fide team changers even in the first three rounds. It is all about $$$$$$$$ and I guess the NFL is either super greedy or super needy. Selling those draft day caps, etc. Eventually this crap is going to die out a bit. The real fans are just going to wait to read about it on the net that night or next day. Making a big production out of it cheapens it to a large degree. But then again, it is really just entertainment. A part of the blame for it getting to where it is at now is us.

Josh Harvey-Clemons

SFREDSKIN 04-29-2017 05:57 PM

Re: 2017 NFL draft rounds 4-7

Strengths Rangy, long frame with exceptionally long limbs. Arm length is what offensive line coaches look for in a tackle. Plays the game with edge and embraces physical requirement of the position. First responder who races downhill into the action. Rarely taps the brakes into his tackles. Square-up, wrap-up finisher. Took on blocks with aggressiveness and leverage when asked to play inside linebacker. His long arms help cast wide net as tackler. Rare athleticism for his size. Flips hips for instant change of direction as tackler or in coverage. Excellent range as a tackler. Plays faster than his timed speed. Communicative on the field. Balances attention between quarterback's eyes and assignments around him as two-deep safety. Quick to find coverage work after diagnosing play-action from the box. Adjusts coverage responsibilities based on scrambling direction of quarterback.
Weaknesses Skinny legs. Needs more discipline in playing with inside-out leverage in run support. Downhill GPS to running backs needs fine tuning. Tends to attack at angles under running back, forcing too many diving attempts on perimeter. Can be a little slow hustling back to high safety spot from disguised coverages. Deshaun Watson picked on him in coverage. From single-high position, needs anticipation and earlier response to throws. Will lose sight of deep responsibilities as high safety at times. Panics and grabs when he fears he's beaten. Needs to trust his length and recover speed more often. Dismissed from Georgia after three strikes, including failed marijuana tests.
Draft Projection Round 6-7
Sources Tell Us "I love the athlete and the toughness, but he's a multiple-time (drug) tester on the college level. Those guys have a high rate of testing positive again. I need to do more background work on him but I really worry about suspensions for him." -- AFC North area scout
NFL Comparison Kam Chancellor
Bottom Line Former five-star recruit with an alpha mentality who roams the field with swagger and undeniable intent as a tackler. Has elite size, length and athletic traits, and is a rangy tackler with the ability to cover and blitz. He could be considered by teams as a box safety or hybrid linebacker.

Cool, we drafted a real stoner.

Re: 2017 NFL draft rounds 4-7

It's a shot in the dark. But hey, if it pans out and he can quit the weed we may have just gotten a huge steal. Sounds like he could be a real enforcer on our back end.
