D will be much improved for sure!!!!!! Hopefully we will have a bona fide RB coming out of the preseason. They didn't show much promise this game.

if murphy had to get hurt,now was the best time.phil taylor hustled more than anybody on both units last night. hope cravens mri and murphy,s turn out well.

Not really what I was hoping from Perine. Bit disappointing

With that...Good and Bad

Good:

Zach Brown Band. Get his ass on the field somehow for most snaps.
Harvey-Clemons...guy was around the ball all night. was impressed.
Allen-Anderson - the Bama boys quietly big time last night
Safety - Everrett...shoulda pick it, was in on some decent coverage
I thought the Dline was up and down as a unit, but some individual decent performance.

Bad:
2nd team Oline got destroyed in the second quarter
Perine was bad...IMO Chris Thompson needs to get the ball more especially running.
Can we hold onto the ball and stop fumbling?
CB Fuller...not great.

I just can't take pre season seriously. What a dog of a game. I guess I was disappointed in Perine. He didn't look like he belonged at all. Maybe just a bad night. First team o-line for the few plays they were in looked terrible.

I hope this kicks up the intensity in camp. From what I heard...too easy going in Richmond. I want to hear about some nastiness. Like to hear about some trench war fare between 1st teams Dline and Oline. Oline was not up to par last night on first and second teams

Z Brown - I heard on sports talk radio that he doesnt know all the D calls yet. I assume that will take some more time but shouldnt keep him off the field come week 1.

Skins 2nd drive on that 3rd and 1 that was stuffed in the backfield - missed assignment/communication btw Moses and TE Davis (I think it was davis lined up right next to Moses). We saw that more than we should have last year. Should be a good learning moment.

Injuries - yikes. MRIs of the knees of 2 heavy contributors sucks. Especially for Cravens who could use the PS to get re-adjusted to SS.

Bama boys - looked good. My initial impression of Ryan Anderson is that he likes mixing it up.

Phil Taylor - big guy looked good. Hopefully he doesnt tire and slow down as the season goes on. Finally we have a legit fat boy at NT. Coefield and Knighton seemed DTs playing NT.

Overreacting is half the fun!!!! This game was the only "scrimmage" played last night that was a complete dog of a game. Every other game had scoring and was relatively close. Have to have some variety in here to spice things up. It would be a rather boring thread otherwise.

SS should be a priority in the next draft. The 2016 draft class hasn't panned out as expected. l won't be that surprised if Reed misses a game or two by week 6.

Pre season sucks. Really need Galette and Anderson to step up. Not sure I have any real faith in Smith. He's as average as average gets.

I'm thinking maybe it's the coaches doing a little politics: Will Compton is a great locker room guy, he's been around a few seasons, maybe they're managing the guys during training camp, don't want to make it feel like they disrespected Compton or pushed Brown too early.

But the way Zach played last night it's almost 100% sure he'll be the starter during the season if not week 1.

I wasn't as upset as many. We were missing two huge weapons with our first team offense and only saw them for two series. Defense looks WAY better based on a small sample size. The Ravens only scored points on mistakes. People acted like they were smacking us around and being more physical.

Hey, their coaches called stunts for a preseason game, we weren't ready for it, but I'm not ready to put the gun to my head just yet.

Losing Trent Murphy will have a big impact. He was an incredibly consistent player last year on D by setting the edge and pushing the pocket. He wasn't flashy, just sound and reliable.

Getting an early start on life without Murphy. He will be a FA next year, same as Gallette and neither might be back if they break the bank with Cousins. Then again they might be able to sign Murphy for a deal since he will coming back from a serious injury and no team is going to pay for a player coming back from injury.

Last year Trent Murphy was probably our 3rd best player on defense. Whether that is a commentary on the rest of the players or on Murphy is up for debate, but he has made dramatic improvements every year.

I would rank Norman of course at the top, Kerrigan at 2 even though I believe Murphy was more consistent. I really hope he is ok and we re-sign him. He is they type of player who will work to rehab and get back on the field.

I believe his injury will be a huge impact because he is solid at a premium position on the D.

Really bummed about this.

Murphy going down sucks, but I think our Front 7 will still be improved. Allen, Anderson, Kerrigan, and Taylor are going to be relentles in opponents backfields and Foster and Brown play clean up. Galette would be icing on top.

Offense definitely didn't look good but I'm not freaking out about it after game 1 of the preseason lol. Maybe after game 1 of the regular season sure (flashbacks to us getting destroyed against the Eagles in the first game of the season a few years back) but no reason to panic yet. Losing Murph blows but that's why we have depth.

Also I'm pretty sure Zach Brown is just 2nd team until he learns the calls a bit more, dude was a Pro Bowler with the Bills last year. I know PB is just a popularity contest but it's gotta count for something. I'm just wondering who eventually gets the bench, is it Foster or Compton. By all accounts both are good guys but I don't think either secured a starting spot after last season.

Sure hope it's Foster, he had a WAY better season than Compton last year, way more consistent tackler.

This week he was just half a step behind Brown on many plays Zach made!

Even though the Redskins played a lackluster game overall, there were a number of players who stood out for their playmaking and hustle. My Top 5 were Phil Taylor, Nico Marley, Deshazor Everett, Mason Foster and Zach Brown.

Others who showed up included Stephan McClure, Pete Robertson, Chris Carter, Joey Mbu, Brian Quick, Robert Davis, Josh Holsey, Chase Roullier and Arie Kouandjo.
