Re: Redskins 2017-2018 Season Prediction
Part of me thinks this, and then the other part of me says that Mcvay had only been a playcaller for a short while. Jay has been doing it for years. I think we will be OK in that department. My hope is a more well balanced offense.
yeah we have to run the ball if we want to get to the playoffs, and stop the run.. I'm more worried about that than anything. Kirk will have another good yr, probably around 3800 yards and 25 tds 13 ints. |
Re: Redskins 2017-2018 Season Prediction
5-11,6-10 with luck.
he wont do it,but i,d keep sudfeld over mccoy cause he can get better, mccoy wont.also need to keep marley,he always finds the play, cant teach that. |

Re: Redskins 2017-2018 Season Prediction
6-10.
Kirk Cousins is still staring down receivers and missing open ones, Jordan Reed will miss a quarter of the season, leaving #8 looking clueless with him off the field for those games, Fat Rob won't be anything special, Mack Brown had no issues running behind the O'Line last night but Perine mustered 3 yds on 5 carries, not drinking the kool-aid on him, the defense will go from 28th ranked last year, to 20th, Jonathan Allen hasn't done much (did I miss something?), etc. Not overreacting to pre-season, and despite what everyone says, I think pre-season is some sort of precursor to how the season will go. Really don't think we can dismiss everything we did bad because it's "only preseason" and then turn around and praise all of the good things done during preseason. |
Re: Redskins 2017-2018 Season Prediction
So does the NE 1-3 mark in preseason make you presume that they will be 6-10?
Or that Cleveland's 4-0 mark means they are superbowl bound? |
It's the NFL, anything can happen. Except I'd say for the first time in a long time we've had a solid team, back to back winning seasons, we're not the Patriots but we're not the Jets either.
We're among the 20 teams that are a few good plays away from going 11 and 5, and a few bad plays away from going 6 and 10 Predicting where we'll land between this and that is pretty much impossible, but as a fan I see no reason to believe we can't achieve. The pieces are there. That was not the case in 2009, 2010 or 2011.
The pieces in place idea you bring up isn't true. We have a bunch of holes plugged up with average to below average talent. Our offensive line, usually a team strength can't run block at all. The defensive line is a bunch of scrubs, etc. |
Re: Redskins 2017-2018 Season Prediction
8-8 .. give or take a game or two.
Defense - I think the defense will be better but fear an injury to any one of Norman, Kerrigan, Brown or Swearinger will be almost insurmountable. Offense - Bigger learning curve concern is Cousins with Pryor and Doctson. Smaller learning curve concern is Gruden going back to play calling. I kinda like McVay in the box up high and Gruden on the sidelines combo. |

Based on a few games where they were obviously NOT playing 100% (and in the last game the run game did start to work some)! And anyway we had a top 5 offense last year without a running game (3rd in the league in yards/game, and even with the redzone issues, 12th scoring) ! Now explain to me how Zach Brown, DJ Swearinger, Cravens playing safety, (or Everett in his 3rd season), Galette being back, Ryan Anderson and Jonathan Allen are not an improvement over what we had last year ? Plus keep in mind on defense a playmaker makes the guys around him look better. IE, I'm aware our DL hasn't been dramatically improved, but Allen making plays and eating double teams will allow other guys to be more efficient. That and pressure from the edge... And better coaching and play calling ! After last season, and an offseason where we did a pretty decent job addressing our needs, I see no reason to expect us to be a garbage team after a few bad offensive drives in preseason. I get being irritated at the offense for not executing this preseason, what I don't get is believing more in those few preseason drives than in the last 2 whole regular seasons. And if we do want to give a lot of credit to what we saw in the preseason, let's not forget our defense did look dramatically improve, and this is what I wanted to see after last year ! |
Re: Redskins 2017-2018 Season Prediction
i can see us starting out 0-4. we go out and lose badly to the rams,Gruden may not last the whole shit show that will surely follow.

Re: Redskins 2017-2018 Season Prediction
I'll say somewhere between 7-9 and 9-7. It mostly depends on how we do in close games, Carolina went like (rough guesses here, bear with me) 6-1 during close games 2 years ago and went 2-6 last year. I ain't saying we're on the Panthers level but those close games will be the difference. I'm still not sold on the D and I think we will be off to another slow start given the offensive regression. We should pick it up by midseason and hopefully finish strong but it ain't gonna be fireworks out the gate.

Re: Redskins 2017-2018 Season Prediction
well there are a few of us who think this team is not ready for prime time..as far as a true fan I've been a fan since 1969 so whatever...I just am tired of thinking we are ready to be a ABOVE AVERAGE 80% chance of making playoffs when in fact we are not. We fumbled the QB negotiations ..we fumbled the Scotty deal..we don't look to smart with the Doctson pick..most of the fan base HATES the owner. The home field advantage has been deemed not so much of a advantage..The best players on team..T Williams already been suspended for drugs..Reed can't stay healthy..Cousins can't or won't sign long term deal..we lose our top 2 Wideouts..we have a brutal schedule..so excuse me if i don't think this years team is not going to win division title. This year Im going the opposite approach Im convincing myself this team is not good..that way IF they start winning I will be happy..IF NOT then its what i thought all along and I won't be disappointed.

Re: Redskins 2017-2018 Season Prediction
this is always tough to separate my homerism from my analytical side
Positives: good draft, with some awesome talent good position coaches: Tomsula , Callahan, Gray solid TE's got more athletic at ILB & S Hopkins looked solid in pre-season Unknowns: how big is the void the McVay depature will leave on scheme Gruden calling plays (he was 4-12 the last time he did that) how much of Kirk's success was related to Djax & Garcon? Manusky's more aggressive scheme - will it really work? Do we have a true kick returner on the roster? Downright Negatives: Never seriously addressed the NT position freaking run blocking still sucks Dalls & NYG were better than us last year and Philly looks improved Too many unknowns for me to feel good, especially after not seeing any life during the pre-season. So, for those reasons...I'll say 7-9 |
Re: Redskins 2017-2018 Season Prediction
with the breaks... 10-6
without the breaks...6-10 |
Re: Redskins 2017-2018 Season Prediction
We're still not strong up the middle on either side on the lines, that's my biggest concern. I think the offense will be just as good stat wise. I think our defensive back 7 will be way better. If the middle of the D can hold up and our red zone scoring improves we'll be pretty damn good.
I want guards, centers, and nose tackles drafted in 2018. |

Yeah, for this year, I hope Chase is good enough to start at center, and Long can bump to left guard. I don't like the starting LG, C combo of Lavaou and Long. But we need better depth at both positions, I want good backups too, like we have at LT. |

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
I strongly disagree: -Swearinger will make a huge difference for us (partly because we were really bad at safety last year) -It's a bit early to say Cravens is always hurt, he had a minor knee surgery, and last year an upper arm strain and a concussion don't mean anything. Btw Everett has been very promising! -Breeland had an awful year, but he could bounce to being his old self, he showed he could do it week 3 of the preseason. And competition might help him get his shit together, Moreau has shown some flashes! |

This team can't get a break..Cravens wanting to retire..and has to be talked out of it.Our only True nose tackle out for year ,Murphy out for year,Doctson always something with him..whew All I can do is pull for these guys but what will happen next.

This looks like a typical 8-8 team to me. Too many recent draft misses to make a big jump.

I totally forgot Sua's sight was that impaired by the concussion last year. It took reading the comments on the ESPN article to jog my memory. I won't hold it against him if he does retire, but it does put the team in a bad spot. |

I agree, 9-7 as the very best. This team neglected the D line forever, and since the switch to the 3-4 hasn't bothered to draft a true NT or at least a defensive linemen that had some shot at making it as one in the upper rounds of any draft since. Allen should have been the third piece in the puzzle to get the D line becoming a force. The Doctson pick might end up haunting the team if he doesn't pan out this season. |
I got the Giants taking the division. Nasty defense.
I think we lost something in DeSean Jackson's deep threat. Don't think we continue the same offensive production we've had in the last few years. It offsets an improvement in defense, and we wind up back at mediocrity. NYG 11-5 DAL 10-6 WAS 8-8 PHI 7-9
Man, Schneed pretty much posted my prediction. I think we'll be fighting the Eagles for 3rd place in the division. I personally think we've taken a step back on offense and the defense is still a mystery yet to prove itself.
