Covering tight ends continues to be a problem as well. We made Ertz look like a prime Tony Gonzalez. That needs to improve asap. Really don't want to see Carrier catch a TD against us.

Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.

Can't ask KC to throw 40 plus times with pressure all game long and run 17? That's a recipe for disaster. He needs better balance and a running game. His int's seem to suck the life out of the team. You simply have to come away with 3 there and he let the team down on that one. Gotta do better Kirk.

The o-line was overpowered all game long. Period. Those guys should be ashamed of that performance.

How about giving Docston some of Pryor's reps? That drop coming off the goaline late in the game was crucial.

D was better and they played well enough to win. Hell they scored. But we still see some of the same things... can't get off the field on 3rd down, can't cover a te. Swearinger is just lost when he's out in space.

It's a week to week league but if we lose to fucking McVay then the fanbase is going to erupt. Time to put on your big boy pants Jay... and Kirk.

what bothers me so much is o-line play was really a staple around here for so long. and now with this current group they can't move a college team off the ball. they're warm butter soft.
When is Cousins going to get better? He's 29 now, really shouldn't make excuses for him any more. It's only 1 game, but it's the same trend. In big games, which all divisional games are, he continues to make huge game losing mistakes. I have no confidence in him in the 4th quarter. I'd imagine some players have to feel that way by now too. That should have been an easy TD throw, instead interception. If he doesn't make huge improvements in this area, I don't want him resigned for any amount.
He'll get better when he has balance and protection. If he doesn't have those two things then he will struggle. He's just not the type of guy that's going to carry the team. At this point I think we know what we have with KC.

I agree, there is no energy with this team or the HC. I watched GB/Seattle and its like those teams are playing a different game. Much faster and way more intensity.

wow that's shocking coming from Czabe. Man I miss that morning show.

But he's right...and at the sametime there are expectations that come along with 44 mil over 2 years and turning down a sizable contract. Just sayin'

Kirk definitely needs to pick up his play, but so does the line and the receivers.

Funny because BMitch says the same thing, he said "Jay is too nice" I agree, dude needs to start being like his brother. Also 17 Rushes??? WTF is that? Kirk isn't ARod, stop it Jay. Next week is a huge ? for me, Idk what to expect from this team right now.

As does the staff, offense is too predictable. Play action doesn't work when u dont even try and run the ball. Perine didn't get 1 carry yesterday... Kelly had maybe 10 without looking at the stats. We beat ourselves, philly is ok but we should have won.

When it comes to the performance of the Oline yesterday...Luavo and Long weren't the issue....Schreff and Moses were bad. These were 2 who were best at that positions last. Shocking to me.

Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.

Its going be a long season. If we lose next week, hello 0-4 bye week. I was hoping we got this win plus next weeks and drop the next 2 and be 2-2 at the bye. Sigh.

The Reed toe injury is very concerning. Doctson is just at this point Malcolm Kelly 2. I think the lost of PG and DJAx sprinkled with no Sean McVay is just going to totally expose KC for who is; nothing special.

The defense seemed somewhat improved.

Oh well; frees up my Sundays.

If we go 0-4 then I would seriously look at major changes ..Head coach, Cousins..etc .Bottom line I am glad the Skins did NOT pay Cousins the money he wanted on long term deal..he is a 10-15 mil a year QB ..if somebody wants to pay him 20-25 then go ahead and good for Cousins ..I'm just glad we won't be the team.. Gruden is on hot seat ..way to soft of a coach..The D looked like a different team because they have a D coach who gets them fired up ! Gruden is head of the O and they are soft ..we win yesterday with Average QB play and a Bruising running game.. The secret to winning a lot of games is Don't beat yourself..No turn overs. The O looked like it was the second pre season game..Cousins will not come close to last years stats and it will cost him millions..

High probability we go 0-4, I say 1-3 but that Rams game is on the road, might be tough to win. Anywho even if we go 0-4 changes won't come until the off season.

Funny Stat: Trent Williams (1 TKL) and Brandon Scherff (1 TKL) each had more tackles then Junior Galette (0 TKL) in the game.

I don't see 0-4, If we beat the Rams I'd say 2-2 is possible. The nfl changes week to week. If we lose to LAR then I'll say 1-3.
Kirk definitely needs to pick up his play, but so does the line and the receivers.
Yup. I'd say everybody shares the blame on this one. Several things stood out to me, like Morgan Moses getting beat, along with Long and Lauvao. Pryor needs to step up, I knew his run blocking would be a drop off from Garcon's but there were several times his poor effort led to run plays not getting past the LOS. Not to mention the dropped balls or his inability to track down the deep ball early. Doctson obviously needs to get his shit in order, no idea why he's 4th on the depth chart. And we all saw the inaccurate throws by Kirk, I have no idea why that's happening but we don't stand a chance if he can't deliver an accurate pass. Not sure if it's the pressure throwing him off or his mechanics are off but he needs to be better.

Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.

I believe that Jay Gruden values players' knowledge of the system much more than he should. Production is what counts. Football is still about blocking and tackling. I don't think our best players are on the field.

For example, the OL needs drastic change. There is nothing wrong with giving another OL combination a chance since the current one isn't working. And we need to start thinking outside of the box.

Try Roullier at C, move Trent to LG, and start Nseke at LT. Then we'll run the ball. I'm ready to argue this with anybody.

We may beat the Rams. I really don't see us beating the Raiders or KC.

Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.

I felt yesterday like everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. I mean Crowder's fumble? Jeebus. I just hate that we start so slow every year and that's on coaching. I think the most noticeable thing for me was the lack of chemistry with receivers (Kirk also looked a little tight). Defense looked VASTLY improved to me. We didn't constantly get gashed with the run game against a pretty good offensive line. We got pressure, we stuffed the run and did pretty well in the passing game. I know Wentz had over 300 yards, but it as a couple of fluke big plays. Maybe I'm just excusing it, but thought the D played pretty well overall.

Lauvao I'm still hating on SO much. I know he's just one player, but he just lets SO much pressure in. It's one thing to have a bad player, but he is the pure result of almost all of the pressure up the middle.

I think if Kirk can work out his timing with the new receivers, I think the offense will be just fine. I worry that next week we'll see a lot more of the same if we keep turning the ball over, considering Aaron Donald is just as good as Cox. Rams looked good, but still not worried about Goff. Their offensive line is not quite as good as Philly's.

I have hope, but was frustrated yesterday for old reasons at the same time.

Well the Chiefs just spanked the Pats so doubtful we win that and Oakland has more budding talent on offense than we do. So I'm thinking maybe 1-3 but most likely 0-4

Until we can hit some plays over the top expect every team we see to blitz. Gruden needs to move Doc over to X and give him some of Pryor's reps. The guy isn't a number one wr so stop trying to make him into something he's not.

8 months of anticipation to watch that? I knew having Pierre and D-Jax gone was going to sting. I still can't believe the Redskins let both of them go. Pryor won't come close to filling the void left from either one. I think I invented some new cuss words watching that game.

I think its Cooley twitter and re-tweet by Keim where Cooley points out that Grant got a screen but went outside instead of inside running the ball.

Cost the Skins 6 points. If Grant would have cut it inside it was a TD.

I fuckin hate the guy.

Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.

No surprise. Jay Gruden was not a qualifed head coach when we hired him and never will be. Doubt if a real GM across the league would have even given him a shot. Bruce Allen the politician playing President/GM (a position he's not even qualified for) wanted to hook his buddy up from years ago in Tampa. Snyder keeps Allen around because he can follow orders, play the part, talk the talk, and his dad was an icon. It's still a mess with this organization from top down.

You won't win anything if Jordan Reed who shows up on the weekly injury report is your only offensive threat. Outside of him, Trent Williams, Kerrigan, and Norman, the roster is still filled with below average and mediocre players forced to start (Ryan Grant) and we are starting a project at rb, Ziggy Hood at NT who probably wouldn't even make another teams roster, a QB transitioned into a WR as our #1 who had 1 good season and is still learning how to catch the ball, and backups like Morgan Moses as starters on the oline to protect our turnover prone slightly above average QB that will lose more games than win. We've wasted high draft picks on "safe" guys like Scherff instead of drafting a true impact player, Doctson who currently is just a name, and Cravens who decides to quit before season start to figure out his life.

Good coaches can make average players play better. Good players can make average coaches look better. Dysfunctional management hiring bad coaches coaching bad players results in what we saw yesterday.

6-10

I saw him in on at least one play. But real talk, if they're keeping a guy, who was a round 1 draft pick on the sideline who is supposedly healthy, then there's something very bad going on behind the scenes.

Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.

the other side of the coin.

we (collectively) knew that the Skins would lay an egg week 1. That's what a Gruden coached team does. But, it wasn't as big an egg as the last 3 years. It looked like they got the dust shaken off by mid 2nd quarter, and kept it a competitive game.

The offensive line will get better, even if we see TW move to guard and bring Nsekhe in. (I always wonder why Nsekhe couldn't make the shift to guard).

Defense can defend the run a lot better, and also can defend the perimeter plays well. 3rd downs need to get better.

KC will not have another 4 turnover game this season except maybe against the Giants.

Crowder was dealing with something about his hip. I didn't know that. I think the offense gels next week.

Pryor and KC need reps together, they're not going to get on track if they don't throw to him. Doctson is probably behind at this point, I'm sure his reps will only continue to go up.

It felt like yesterday was Grant's biggest game. Yeah that screen should've been a td but I put that on inexperience. It's about time we see what the kid has, can't keep wasting a roster spot on a guy that never shows up on Sundays.

Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.

I swear, watching Cousins play reminded me of Rex Grossman yesterday.

Throwing it up for grabs, overthrowing deep balls, and red zone ints.

sdskinsfan2001 09-11-2017 12:26 PM

Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.

Pryor and Doctson should both be starting. Crowder should be starting slot. Which is basically a starter, as we use at least 3 WR a lot. Quick should be #4 and Grant should be #5. I think if we stay healthy this lineup has the most potential over course of season.

We need to try a new OL combination. Yesterday was pathetic. Moses, that better have been just a one off shitty game.

Cousins, can you grow a pair? That interception was an easy touchdown for 99% of NFL qbs. At bare minimum we took a 1 point lead there. A couple more games like that and you might be the highest paid bench rider in NFL history. Its to the point where I just expect him to throw an INT in that situation. Zero confidence in him at money time.
