Great effort, but how could the defensive game plan not emphasize keeping Smith in the pocket. F#%King bad angles all night long.

I stated it before, but we need some growth from Kelly and Perine. But Mack needs a chance to start imo.
As well he shouldn't. How do you horse collar a guy right in front of the ref when it looked like the guy was heading out of bounds? Also the hands to the facemask when we had a stop to get off the field. Just dumb shit you can't have. This is his 5th year and he's still doing rookie shit? To me he's been the worst corner on the team. |
Honestly, on the 3rd and 2, I was really hoping that they would not go deep. I just felt it was too risky and would have preferred something short to complete the first down. Given how banged up the defense was, I wish Jay would have managed the clock better.
I get the instinct of going for the TD, but not on a 3rd down. I still feel that we've lost a lot of games due to missed early opportunities. The way the Defense played in the first half, the offense should have put up more than 10 points.
Can't play scared there and hindsight is always 20/20. KC put it on Doc and he has to catch that. And I feel Doc makes that play more times than not. Score a td, man up on d and win the game. We ain't quite there yet... |

It's not playing scared, it's playing smart. The Defense was running on fumes. If the offense had manned up in the 2nd quarter and put up some more points, perhaps they wouldn't be in this situation. Losing sucks, but I thin we've taken a big step this season. Let's hope everyone is rested and healthy after the bye. |

Whenever we are in the red zone and settle for 3, that is a major dagger. |

I’ve got no problem with it either, in fact that’s exactly what I wanted them to do. Take a shot to potentially win it, settle for the tie if it doesn’t work. |

Would you give Jackson 20 million over two years? He has a whopping 9 catches and 1 td for Tampa. I know I would have let both walk for that amount of money. Especially when the defense needed to be upgraded and you have a potential stud in Doc. Having two 10 million plus FA WR's is not a winning formula. So tired of the Garcon and Jackson talk. |

It's all risk reward, I have done the same. My point is on the field right now it isn't working out. As far as djax, the threat of him opens up other people. Mike Evans has 19 catches 224 yards and 2 TDs. That is through 3 games not 4. See Crowder for the example of a missing Djax. Also, if you are sick about talking about the Redskins stop coming to a Redskins forum. If you want be more specific avoid WR talk. |
Re: Bittersweet post game thread.
One non-call I'm disappointed in was Mitchell's PI on Vernon Davis on that big hit he took. I freezed the frame and you can clearly see Mitchell lay the wood right before the ball got there. It's a crappy shot but you can still tell:
Did that lose us the game? No, but it didn't help. Yeah if Doctson catches that ball all is forgiven. TBH I'm more concerned with the L we took in the injury column. On the bright side this bye week came just at the right time. Edit: Matty did you disable images or something? It was clear the defensive edges were keyed not to let Hunt bounce out. That's not really that surprising is it? If you are letting Smith or Hunt get a downfield lane, which would you be more worried about? |

Totally agree, just saying the issue remains. My hop was the height of JD and Pryor was going to cure those ills. Not so much so far. |

I didn't know anything about Kareem Hunt besides the fact that he racked up yards in the first few games of the season. I figured he would be a speed type back, had no idea he was quite the banger. He looked like what we expect Samaje Perrine to look like. |
Re: Bittersweet post game thread.
I know folks are sick of WR talk but that drop by Doctson was literally a team and player altering moment, assuming defense held on. Imagine if that was the winning catch, super frustrating.

Re: Bittersweet post game thread.
I was concerned that Kelley was banged up and that Brown was inactive. Dumb move. That left Perine (inconsistent) and CT (not an every down back) as our only options and time of possession went out the window. Not being able to run and sustain drives kept our D on the field too long, as did dumb penalties and a few terrible calls. Very frustrating.

I think we have seen baby step progress from both receivers. Had Doctson held onto that it would be a far different discussion right now. He didn't so there is frustration. A few more games and I think both Doctson and Pryor will be making their presence known. All that said, it is clear that Crowder was by far the biggest beneficiary of DJax and Garcon, and he needs to make himself a bigger factor as Pryor and Doctson start making deep catches. |
Re: Bittersweet post game thread.
Preston Smith doesn't line up offsides and Doctson makes that catch the Chiefs get the ball back on their final possession down 24-16. Whole new ball game at that point.
In general, and specifically against other good teams, the game is won or lost on a couple plays. |

The lateness of that flag, the way it only came out when K.C. DIDNT convert the TD ... absolutely makes me fuckin sick. Theres pics online pointing out just how fucking GARBAGE that call was. The nfl is a fucking joke and we get the shit end of the dildo more often than not. Im for one reallu fucking sick of being screwed by the zebras.

Yeah I agree. He didn't look to be any further ahead than the rest of the guys. Its like that ref was just looking for a reason to flag us. Such a huge call that had absolutely nothing to do with the play as it went to the other side of the field. If that's a penalty you can call that 50 times a game. What's up with this server, never seen so many too busy messages before. |

The organization made the right move by letting them go. They're gone and ain't coming back. We have guys here who can get the job done. Again, at their price tag, age and the state of our defense, would you have brought them back??? And Evans is going to get his numbers whether DJ is there or not. That's already been proven. DJ was a luxury we simply could not afford to keep around. |

It was close. I think we also got away w/ Pryor pushing off on the TD. All that stuff seems to even out hopefully. |
Re: Bittersweet post game thread.
In my mind, the defensive penalties at critical moments that led to points was the biggest difference in the game. We don't even need Doctson to catch that ball at the end if we don't allow the Chiefs all the extra opportunities to score.
Overall can't be too disappointed in the first four games. 3-1 and 4-0 would obviously be better, but 2-2 puts this team in a good position in the division and the NFC. It's critical to get guys healthy during the bye week and come out strong. I suspect we crush SF pretty handily and get on a roll. |
Bittersweet post game thread.
Considering how many of you MF’ers were all doom and gloom and predicting an 0-4 start after week 1 I’d say we’re in pretty good shape.
An early bye is just what we need too. |
Bittersweet post game thread.
Looking ahead, I see 2-4 games that we shouldn't be favored.
Broncos Eagles in Philly Seahawks in Seattle (maybe) Cowboys in Dallas (maybe) I honestly think we are better than the Cowboys. If we take care of business in the division (3 out of the next 5) we should make the playoffs. Teams we should beat: Cardinals Chargers Giants x 2 San Francisco Saints Vikings Edit: That said, if we come out and lay an egg against SF, then we go 8-8 this year Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Bittersweet post game thread.
Gotta say the early bye is usually a negative in the schedule, but the Skins need it. I think everyone gets time to heal, and the offense gets some good rhythm and timing work for Pryor and Doctson. Coming back with SF at home isn't a killer game, though Shanahan will make it his mission to make DS look bad. (OR [conspiracy] he dumbs down his game plan so that KC can have an all american game and raise his asking price so that DS can't/won't resign him[/conspiracy])

Re: Bittersweet post game thread.
You know, this drop doesn't have to be a bad thing if Doctson decides to put in the work and become one of those guys that catches everything. That's why I'm not too torn over it. He knows he has plenty of room for improvement.
The main thing I'm surprised over is the fact we were in it until the end. The offense didn't do much of anything from the first through the third. The defense kept letting them extend drives all night. The fact it came down to the end after all the penalties and injuries speaks volumes about what type of team we have. |
Re: Bittersweet post game thread.
Overall I'm encouraged, not just for our prospects this season but very encouraged for the next few years.
Young defensive line making an impact. Offensive line performing near the top of the heap. Continued strong QB play. Aggressive defensive tone. We can run a little bit, and we stop the run. That sets up real well in November and December. To me the season comes down to the division games. Beat the Eagles and we're in tremendous shape. Keep an eye on the Cowboys too because while they're defensively flawed they are still built to run. I predict that the Eagles fade in the second half of the season when the weather turns, and the Skins and Cowboys battle it out for the division. I like our chances. |
Re: Bittersweet post game thread.
To me the next 2 games are must wins. Can't lose to 9ers because they suck and can't start 0-2 in division or lose both games to 1 team.

I'm very optimistic moving forward. Just gotta get healthy. |
Re: Bittersweet post game thread.
It is obvious that Doctson has a superior skill set. I don't give a damn about practice and what not. Against SF put his ass out on that field and he only comes out when he's tired. Draw up 10 or so plays where you get him the ball. If they want to play Grant I'm fine with that, frankly he's kind of earned playing time, but you rotate him with Pryor or Crowder, not Doctson. It ain't that hard.

Re: Bittersweet post game thread.
Speaking of, I can't tell if Crowder disappeared on offense because he's not playing well enough, or if the defense is taking him out of every play because he's our most consistent threat. But it feels like Cousins isn't even giving him targets.
