This draft should be a RB, a possible OL, and then 5 picks on defense. Not in any particular order.
I agree except draft a running back in the first round. The offense needs a stud every down back and the best place for the team to get one is via the draft.

The way Foster handled going to IR..he's gone. Is Spaight the answer next to Brown? That's what we should find out going forward this year.

I think Preston Smith should come back and say bye to JG unless takes some pay cut to comeback.
Noooooooo! He may look like a LB but he plays like he's at a D 3 school. He's out of position all the time, over runs shit and doesn't stay in his gap. I watched him yesterday and he was just putrid. There's a reason why two journeymen play in front of him.

Re: The D thread

I don't like Manusky because for all the good he does during games, it gets instantly washed out when teams go down the field for points at the end of the half. They balled out against Seattle, until the last 3 minutes of the 4th, when Wilson took them 80 yards in under 3 minutes to take the lead. Only reason that game is a W is because Kirk did the same to them. I've seen enough to say it's a continuing theme all season. If they can ball out against teams during the game why can't they do it at the end?

I also think we should get a big stud nose tackle. 7 years since we switched to a 3-4 and they still won't address it.

Edit: Also forget to mention Hall, sackless Gallette, Spaight/Compton, and maybe McGee/McClain can walk. Definitely need some upgrades there. Also, I'd let Manusky stay if and only if he adjusts his 2 min defense, because the scheme we're using now just isn't working.

I wouldn't give up on Galette quite yet, It may take a year for him to get back in form. Plus he should be vet min cheap.

Yeah, I wasn't saying I would or wouldn't in the 1st round, but we need to find a stud somewhere in the draft. I'm open to any round. Like if Barkley falls to us, you have to take him.

Good Breeland is definitely a valuable starter in the NFL. Those are expensive. Don't see us being able to keep him with Cousins, Brown, etc. needing contracts and the drafting of Fabian.

Props to the D today. Kept the Giants to 77 yards passing and less than 100 rushing yards. And considering the injuries, that’s not a small feat.

Saw something this morning that said Kerrigan has at least 7.5 sacks in each of his 7 seasons joining only Jared Allen, Reggie White, DeMarcus Ware and Derrick Thomas as the only players to do so. And he tied Dexter Manley with the most 7.5 sack seasons in team history.

Very true. He had a good game yesterday and gets held constantly.

D had a nice bounce back from last week. It's helps that we had the perfect bounce back opponent. Eli looked like he didn't want to be there.

I felt this last game was Norman's first game after the injury where he played physical football. He has probably had to back off how he normally plays.

Re: (All about that) D thread

After the first 11 weeks, the defense should have smooth sailing over the rest of the year.

Here's a list of teams they've played and where they rank in points:
1. Philly (twice)
2. Rams
3. New Orleans
7. Kansas City
8. Minnesota
10. Seattle
15. Dallas
20. Oakland
27. 49ers
31. Giants

Teams we will play in rank of points:
14. Chargers
15. Dallas
24. Denver
26. Arizona
31. Giants

Montae Nicholson and Matt Ioannidis being healthy will be important for this defense.

really? I think they have been exceptional this year. Especially the Gray and Tomsula. I like what Ive seen with the growth of younger players like Fuller, Nicholson, Innoaidis, Allen and I think Breeland has had maybe strongest season. We still need to build in the middle....NT/DT and ILB, but overall Im happy.

We've definitely improved this year on d, but I'm not satisfied with how easy it is for teams to score on us with less than 5 min in the half. If Manusky can fix that I don't have a problem with him for next year.

Some of you guys are going to love this:

http://cdn.stationcaster.com/stations/wtem/media/mp3/12_06_17_Cooley___Kevin_HR_2-1512573827.mp3

In his "Must do list" for the upcoming season, Cooley says he wants the Skins to transition to a 4-3 D because our personnel is more suited for it:

-Kerrigan and Galette are better with their hands in the dirt (and Kerrigan can't cover).
-He wants Zach Brown our WLB and Ryan Anderson to be our SLB with Foster (or Compton) at MLB.
-He doesn't like to have different guys for the 4-2 nickel and for the few snap you play as a 3-4.
-We don't have a true NT and it's not easy to find.

This makes sense because the organization refuses to find a Nose Tackle...but insists on running a 3-4. Pretty fucking retarded, but hey, that's Bruce & Co.

Same organization offered 17 million per year to Cousins...Cousins team countered with 19 per year and Bruce said no.

That alone could cost the team 15-16 million against the cap next year if tagged.

People say fire Jay which is dumb...we all should be saying Fire Bruce loud and clear.

haha this was true when G williams and Blache had the reigns - ppl were cyring about the bend but dont break and wanted an aggressive 3-4 scheme... i agree that we dont have the players needed and we would be better suited for 4-3 = but in the end it is LITERALLY coming down to creativity and scheme, which ive been watching all year flop but also have flashes of "well ok, thats was a nice blitz or nice stunt - good call greg" - but they are WAY too few and far between... ppl trhinking about the 4-3 ... could be better .... BUT .... do you guys see how many time we actually line up in the 4-3 front? ..... A SHIT TON. Almost i'd be willing to bet 80% of the time. No bullshit. So im kind of wondering now..... would it really make that much of an impact or difference? Trust, we line up with 4 DL nearly every friggin play.

Talent over scheme any day. What killed our front this year was losing Allen and Matt I’s broken hand. Those two injuries had a ripple effect across the D.

agreed, but tons of other teams get creative especially through injuries - and greg has been very underwhelming IMO in that area. I've seen GLIMPSES, not even flashes, but they flee fast.

Agreed. I also think losing Foster was a bigger blow than most of us thought.

Re: (All about that) D thread

We made strides this year in defensive talent. Allen and Ioannidis are the first effective interior pass rushers we've had in years. Literally years and years.

Unfortunately our free agent acquisitions on the line were disappointing - McGee and McClain didn't do enough for us. So where we thought we had depth, we really didn't have enough when Ioannidis and Allen got hurt. Lanier is promising and had some moments as a rusher, but he's not consistent enough yet and is going to get moved in the run game.

Our talent at MLB is still just flat out insufficient, save for Zach Brown. Compton shouldn't be on an NFL roster, and Mason Foster is OK. If you're a very good team, then OK gets you in the rotation as a depth guy. I want Very Good as my starters.

We need a lot more talent, plain and simple.

Schneed10 12-07-2017 02:11 PM

Re: (All about that) D thread

All that said I'm very excited to see what Montae does in year 2. Players usually make a big jump year 1 to year 2, and there's a lot of reason to believe that will make him a very, very good player.

See if he can stay healthy enough.

We need more talent up the middle. DT and ILB...If Ryan Anderson is better at an ILB/MLB position, move him there.

in regards to pass rush...Kerrigan Murphy and Ioannidis are all extremely solid/not spectacular. I think JG has been better as the year has worn on...I would be in favor of bringing him back. Preston Smith...inconsistent, seems like a rotational guy. My feeling is this is a squad that is overall above average, you can win with.

We cant go another year with McClain or Hood at NT/DT. This is unacceptable and hurts the entire defense.

I do like the image of Johnathan Allen and Matt Ionnadis next to each other in a 4-3 set, but I think we will end up as a quote unquote 3-4 base team. I want to see Ryan Anderson as an ILB, not an outside one
