Re: Redskins don't plan on third straight franchise tag for Kirk Cousins
Good, move the hell on!!!!!! I pulled for Kirk, as he is a good QB and a very nice guy, but whenever he had the chance to shut his detractors up, he gave them more rope to hang him with. Two years ago, all we needed was one out of three wins at the end to get into the playoffs and he couldn't come up with that, then the end of last season pretty much the same thing. Guy couldn't rise to the occasion to show folks he could take the team to the next level. The guy is a good Qb, that is above average and maybe can get a well run team into the playoffs on a consistent basis. The Redskins are not that team yet.
I’m not buying this idea he’ll need to give someone a discount just to go to a good team.
The Jets seem to have the total hots for him and I read a week or two ago said they will pay the man!!!!!!! |
Re: Redskins don't plan on third straight franchise tag for Kirk Cousins
Both the Vikings and Jets could pay what the reports say he wants cap and cash wise, so if he takes less it won't be for team building it will be because that was the best offer he received. I still think it will be less than the reports that have been floating around, as I think alot of that is agent press to play his client's value up.
Fortunately this will be over in about 10 days, and what else would we all have talked about? Pies and sandwiches??? |
Re: Redskins don't plan on third straight franchise tag for Kirk Cousins
The Redskins are going to come through all this looking very wise for not signing him to top QB money. Whoever gets him is going to end up with a thinner roster and we all know that’s the opposite of what he needs. If he goes to the Vikings, his window to win it all is maybe two years at most before the Vikings end having to forego resigning some of their talented young players.
The road to the Super Bowl would run through Philadelphia, and there’s no way I can see Cousins lifting his team over Carson Wentz in the crunch moments. That sentence sucked. |
Re: Redskins don't plan on third straight franchise tag for Kirk Cousins
I think I am rooting for the Vikings to get him, I would like to see how he plugs and plays into a top-notch team. Was it that Gruden and the Skins couldn't put enough (or the right) pieces around him? Or was it that he couldn't lift the team at crunch time? The nice thing is: with us having Alex Smith and the Vikings getting Cousins it would almost give you a perfect look at both scenarios.

Re: Redskins don't plan on third straight franchise tag for Kirk Cousins
The Redskins defense has ranked 21st, 28th, and 28th the last 3 years with Kirk as QB. Is that enough of a case to show the right pieces weren’t here?
If we can’t improve that side of the ball Smith will be a .500 type of QB like Kirk. |

We were in the red zone a lot and Cousins, and the offense, often failed to convert and worse, sometimes at critical points, turned it over. Alex Smith hasn't shown a propensity to do that. |
......wonder what the open market would be for him???
I don't think he'll get 30 million AAV, but that might be because he doesn't need 30 mil AAV. Something comparable to Jimmy G should be fine. If he does get some insane deal (won't rule that out) it's because his agent played teams like fiddles against each other, but really that will only hurt Kirk in the end because he needs a good team around him to be the best player he can be. |

?? You don't think Arron Rodgers will get an Offer of 30 million a year from Greenbay even after they said they will wait to see what happens with Cousins? Why would Arron Rodgers sign for JG money??? |

I don't think Snyder is as impulsive with coaches as he is portrayed. In fact much like Jones and Garrett I think Snyder likes having a coach who isn't going to be as combative with him as Shanahan or Marty were. If that coach can produce a consistent team in terms of wins, I think Snyder keeps him.

If you're right then the Skins and their fans have a couple of great years ahead of them. |
Re: Redskins don't plan on third straight franchise tag for Kirk Cousins
I swear, every thread I click on talks about Kirk Cousins. Will be so glad when he finally inks a deal with someone else officially. I know, I know, that won't be the end of Kirk Cousins talk.
|
Re: Redskins don't plan on third straight franchise tag for Kirk Cousins
I am a big Kirk fan and honestly hate losing a guy in his prime with 7+ more years of pretty good football left in the tank. I saw a couple posts regarding RZ offense and how it bogged down under Kirk. Lets not forget that our biggest RZ option was out the majority of the year (Reed), and quite honestly we couldn't run the ball for a yard if we had to. when a D knows you can't move them off the ball - the fear of a run game is out the window. So, combine those two factors I think that speaks a lot for most of the RZ offense.

I'd like to take this opportunity to discuss the RG III trade and the impact it is having on the Skins as they prepare for the draft. |

I am pretty sure Snyder giving RG3 the keys to the city and meddling when Shanny wanted to move on from him didn't sit well with Kirk. |

If the Vikings and Jets go a different way, not saying they will, then KCs FA trial would get a little harder.
Why would they both turn in a different direction? He’s clearly at the top of their wish lists.
They both have talked about having a plan B and a plan C. It is possible that the agent over plays his hand with both.
I don't think it's likely but if both decide the price gets too high they both have alternate plans. The Vikings at least have to consider Keenum at 10M less, and the Jets could fall in love with a top qb at a rookie salary, even cap isn't a huge issue. |
Redskins don't plan on third straight franchise tag for Kirk Cousins
$30M gets it done if that’s what the Vikings are offering. The Jets can pay him and still have more room than most teams to upgrade and not to mention a high pick. Money isn’t an issue for either of these teams.

I think it's definitely between the Jets and Vikings, and ultimately I think the Vikings sign him. BUT, if they could make the decision that Keenum got them to the NFL championship at 2/3rd the cost.

Re: Redskins don't plan on third straight franchise tag for Kirk Cousins
The typical window to win a SB is 3-4 years, the Vikings are built to win right now. They’re in a spot where they should be pushing all of their chips to the middle of the table, not trying to save $10M. If the offer is 3 years $90M fully guaranteed I can’t see how Kirk passes that up.
|

Well that guy broke down a lot more than just PFF stats. Including watching a ton of Cousins. That said, with KC leaving, it was just what I thought was a balanced look at the pros and cons of KC. |

PFF isn't a joke, they have a different system but those guys watch film 24/7.
