Just curious, what holes do you see in the roster - given that no roster has superstars at every position. |
I don't remember that. I do know back then the players actually used camp and the preseason to get in shape because there weren't all the off season programs like now. My issue is all the preseason injuries, its ruining the product.
There weren't any off season programs because unless you were a marque player you had to have an off season job to support your family. A 33 year old dude who had two practices under his belt probably became our #1 running back, I doubt our training staff can keep him glued together. |

I do. In those days, a lot of players held off-season jobs simply because they didn't make much, the average salary was 27,500. (for comparison, the average salary of a new college graduate was between 8K -12K). Those were the days when there wasn't year round conditioning, OTA's, and 24/7 coverage even in the offseason. Training camp was when players got "conditioned." Now, the expectation is that you are preparing year-round are coming into camp at pro level physical condition. Plus, with all the OTA's, players should have already learned the scheme basics and camp is the time to fully implement the playbook. Just a completely different game from back then. The huge influx of money into the league through mega-media deals changed the game completely. |

I personally see holes in coaching. I don't think we have the d coordinator or scheme, nor a good enough pass rush (just hasnt been displayed yet i hope im wrong but the front 7 has lacked creativity for YEARS) to keep our young secondary from getting lost or just getting gassed...... i think that Jay is just mediocre but shows some flashes of briliance while calling. Hes a scared coach in a lot of bad situations. ... I honestly think with a different coaching staff this roster, may be more successful. But my record prediction, goes with youth in certain units, but mostly on coaching. |

If not, I refuse to buy into this team/coach yet again. As for their holes: run blocking. Whether its talent, scheme, OL, WR, or TE's, they have not consistently blocked well for the RB's. Not that our RBs have been anything to write home about, but I think our "yards before contact" has consistently been one of the worst in the league. |

I can subscribe to this, especially describing Gruden as a scared coach. I'm willing to give the DLine a pass because last year before Allen and Ionnaidis went out our D was a different animal. I still think talent wise, our team is in the top 8 of the NFL |

TE's you are correct sir. Losing Guice was a big hit (if he played to expectations) and I don't think AP fills it perfectly (or that Gruden will use him right) |

I agree. The players wont go to 18 games without more roster spots and maybe another bye week. What I'm trying to figure out is what's in it for the owners. They already force the season ticket holder to buy the entire preseason at regular season prices. Maybe the longer season would increase the price of the tv deal but would that be enough for the owners to say yes? |

Re: Season Predictions - post them here
Please watch that All-22 breakdown I just linked to. A couple pertinent points:
- On the first play, he jump stops as the LB fills the hole and escapes to the left. Neither Kelley nor Perine have the ability to make that play. They may jump stop as the LB approaches, but they're not agile enough to explode from the stop and break away to the left. - On the second play, the Iso Lead, note fullback JP Holtz meets the LB in the hole between Roullier and Scherff. There's very little space in that hole, since Holtz was met at the point of attack. AP squirts through what looks like no hole. That's what NFL runners have to do, and it's what Perine and Kelley can't do. Perine especially was used to massive holes at Oklahoma. In the NFL you have to find space, and sometimes make some yourself. All Day finds a crack just wide enough to wiggle through. - On the third play that was more Vernon's quality block on Chubb that sprung that play than anything Peterson did. But that's why he'll succeed as a Redskin - the blocking here is better than what he had his last two seasons in Minnesota and anything he had in Arizona. All Day goes 4.3+ yards per carry and 1000+ yards on the season. Book it. And don't call it Kool Aid unless you bring me some All 22, haters. |

Jerry Jones seems to think there’s about a billion dollars in extra revenue out there by adding 2 more games, I’m sure he knows what he’s talking about and honestly if there wasn’t more $$ involved why else would they want the extra games |

I have no doubt AP can still play, can he hold up over the course of the whole season? That’s the only question I have. I wouldn’t bet against him.

Re: Season Predictions - post them here
I think what you'll see is defenses will still recognize that All Day is enough of a breakaway threat that it will open up possibilities for our passing game.
You've also never seen Peterson paired up with a QB that can run RPOs effectively and threaten with his own mobility on read options. On one hand you question whether that will fit with Peterson's style, on the other hand you wonder whether that opens up additional lanes for him to run through. We'll see. I'm extremely optimistic. I don't think he'll quite give us what Guice would have, but it will be pretty darn close. |

We get off to bad start ..Gruden is on hot seat but rally to finish 8-8 ...will it be enough to save his job? hey we are making predictions.. Doctson never shows up and losses starting job..AP is a stud and surprises a lot of folks ..Smith is okay and puts up good numbers..The D is very very good and finishes top 10 .bottom line is just not enough and in the end Gruden gets let go ..I hope we go to super bowl and all is well but thats hoping...we will see

Shouldn't we have a bad-ass FB on the final roster now that we have AP?

Re: Season Predictions - post them here
I'd like to see the Skins trade for OLB Shane Ray of the Broncos. Now that the Broncos have Bradley Chubb, Ray has slipped down the depth chart. Ray was hurt last season but he notched 8 sacks in 2017. He is very fast and he can get after the passer. Ye olde situational pass rusher.

Re: Season Predictions - post them here
My Kool-Aid drinking prediction: 11-5
I love Jay, he's far and away the best coach we've had since Gibbs 1.0, (well maybe 2.0, and Schottenheimer but well we'll see). He's not a perfect coach, the are things I've not agreed with, but to go 7-9 last year with all the injuries, a difficult schedule, and a QB that was not all in was very impressive IMO. It seemed throughout it was because the core team was willing to give it all, and based on what some players have said about KC departing, I don't think he was subversive by any means, but when your QB gives off vibes like he's got one foot of the door a team can fall apart quickly. I'm hopeful that this translates into more success this year with a healthier and more talented team overall. My realistic prediction: 8-8 We got better in some areas, worse in others, and there's a lot if ? in between. It's a difficult schedule, AS well need time to gel with this team, and there's a lot of young unproven talent that will likely have some growing pains. They will be competitive as they have been, but it's a tough league. My PTSD Redskins fan prediction: 6-10 AS is ok. AP will last a few games, then what? Doctson and Richardson have done nothing, Crowder was a flash in the pan, and Reed is, well, injured. Our oline depth is a work in progress or injury prone. D line looks like it could be nasty, but I'll believe it when I see it, LBs are solid but none can cover a TE to save their life. Our secondary is a bunch of pups and an injury or two away from scary, expect broken coverages. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk |

Re: Season Predictions - post them here
I find it hard to find many wins at all after week 2... and honestly, can't see even 8 wins unless the 'Skins start 2-0.
This schedule is DAUNTING to put it lightly. After Week 2 it's... Packers Saints Panthers Cowboys Giants Falcons Bucs Texans Cowboys Eagles Giants Jaguars Titans Eagles I mean, from that, best chances for wins are what,? Giants, Bucs, Titans, Cowboys? Sure, maybe we'll beat a Falcons or Panthers team... but I don't know if I'd say I'd put the odds in any of those other games at over 50% chance... especially after watching the preseason games. And yes, I know they were preseason games, but I didn't see some dominating D-Line (especially against the Broncos with everyone's starters in) that suddenly is going to shut down opponents' run games. Also see Doctson as a MAJOR bust (great to be big, but a WR has to get SOME separation at some point) and accounting for the annual injuries and lack of depth on the O-Line... I mean, I hope it all clicks and I'd love to sip a little Kool-Aid... but... This year will definitely be about being healthier, but even with health... this schedule of opponents is the biggest obstacle. |

We don't play the Steelers or Patriots so I see 16 possible games on the schedule we can win. Actually winning them is another matter.

We think on the same wavelength. Age isn't just a number when it comes to running backs. I wouldn't be surprised if he shows that old burst for about a month, and then it declines as the season goes on. Really hoping he proves me wrong though. And I'm sure Gruden will take care of him on the practice field with some vet rest. |

Correct me if I am wrong but under Gruden's reign I don't recall the Redskins pulling many upsets when they were a td or more under dog. |

Maybe that changes with Alex and new talent. Plus last year's early wins against the Raiders and the Rams could be defined as upsets, couldn't they? |

I don't recall too many of them either. But we have a better QB now and this is probably our most talented roster overall we've had in a long time and for sure in the whole Gruden era. |

Somebody said anybody can beat anybody on any given Sunday, that doesn't seem the case with Jay Gruden as coach with the Redskins the role of the underdog. |
