Just watched the Giants pretty much shut down the Saints passing game. They couldn’t stop the run though, and their offense is putrid. We can, and ours is not.
Game plan, scheme, play-calling, that is what will make the difference. I am still not sold on our HC, or his staff. Hopefully This game gets me on board.

I was going to post this.. I'm not surprised by Kerrigan's numbers - he is not flashy player but he is valuable player for Redskins.

It’s a matter of time with Kerrigan...also supports Kerrigan should be rushing the passer the more and not dropping into coverage.

Trent is just a baller...why is Goff breaking out? Look at the top 2 of the stat.

We're the Redskins. We don't set lofty goals and then achieve them.

We set lofty goals like 2 wins in a row, building off a great performance in our last game = uncompetitive game that we lose easily.

We temper our expectations coming off a terrible loss to an average team = we win easily.

We think we're gonna repeat a duplicate performance of that against a great team with a HOF qb and weapons galore on offense on national TV?

P.S. I'd love the Skins to prove me wrong on this.

2) Few thoughts I had about the Redskins while watching the Colts @ Pats game:

- Is it me or [I][U]do we run very few easy smart passing plays like pick plays or WR screens[/U][/I] compared to other teams? The Colts killed us with pick plays, and the Pats decimated the Colts with WR screens... Maybe it's a false impression but watching it I was like [U][I]"Why don't WE do that more?"[/I][/U]

- [I][U]Thursday game was a reminder that our D played well even against the Colts IMHO[/U][/I]: they had [B]439 yards[/B] of total offense against the Pats and only [B]281 yards[/B] against us. And the Patriots' offense wasn't giving them the ball back over and over again like our's did !

I love it. Great metric.

I think one thing it misses is how quickly a guy wins. They use the cutoff of 2.5 seconds to determine whether a block or a pass rush was successful. But of course if a rusher wins at 1.5 seconds instead of at 2.4 seconds, that’s more impactful. But still, I think this is a better way to view it than counting the Time in Pocket which may be short on purpose because the QB just gets rid of the ball super quickly (Brady).

They are out of position because the pressure arrives to quickly. He has to throw the ball out of bounds BECAUSE Kerrigan gets there ahead of schedule.

Scenario 2, Kerrigan pressures Andrew Luck on step 7 of a 5 step drop. Luck has already gone through all of his reads, nobody is open, Kerrigan is closing in and nearly gets his hands on him, Luck is EXPECTING pressure because it is a 5 step drop and he has been holding the ball too long. He throws the ball out of bounds.

Those plays would show up in ESPN's stat column as pressures, but they are radically different in the likelihood of resulting in a sack.

In the first, Luck isn't expecting pressure and has an "oh crap" moment and isn't able to plan but has to react.

In the second, Kerrigan is just as close to Luck, but the internal clock is ticking and Luck knows he has to throw it away. Despite being just as close to a sack physically, in reality Kerrigan isn't close at all because Luck is prepared to end the play with as positive a result as the situation makes possible.[/quote]

From looking back at the way the Saints have played all season up and till now. They haven’t been able to reach the end zone in the first half. They settled for 4 field goals last week against a middle of the pack Giants defense. 1 assisted by a converted fake punt on 4th down and another a fumble recovery at the Giants 11. It’s been like this all year they have only found the end zone 4 times in the first half 3 coming week 1 against Tampa bay and the other the opening drive to Atlanta.

If we can come out and stay aggressive the first half like we have in the games that we came to play and the defense can keep the run game in check with some pressure on Brees we can do this. It is near impossible for Brees to not make the milestone tomorrow as the Saints will do everything in their power to ensure it happens at home. But if we get off the ball quick and put up some first half points and play our game we should stand victorious in the end.

Any questions of, "Is this defense for real?" should be answered after tonight.

You do your best to shut down Kamara, and force Brees to challenge our secondary. Hopefully some of the young talent at CB steps up.

On offense, I can't imagine a game plan other than feed AP and CT the rock. What do you think the over/under is for passes completed to a WR should be? 4?

My hope is that the by week gave our O some time to get things together. Our D will get its biggest test tonight and we win by 10 points. I also think Chris Thompson gets things rolling this week. He was injured last year in the Saints game. Maybe some motivation there.

I agree...Saints are a good measuring stick for the defense and team in general. Saints won’t rollover.

We need to continue to run the ball...keep Brees off the field. Also, field goals won’t work tonight....let’s convert our red zone opportunities to titties.

The Saints' run D is actually pretty stout -- they're being burned in the secondary. Reed, Crowder, and CT could have big games and the short possession passing offense may be our best bet to keep the Saints O and their various weapons off the field.

I hope the team approaches this game as being about respect. Because it is. Beat at team like the Saints at home, and you're relevant. Do it when no one (outside of the Warpath) thinks you can.

Four options:
We blow them out, we win close, they blow us out, they win close. Two of those things will result in the happy dance. Losing close, in New Orleans, as painful as any loss is - really is not the end of the world. I would still consider us the best team in the division. Only a blowout loss can derail all hope going forward. I think we are all going to be very pleasantly surprised tonight. Just have that feeling. CT is going to go off. Im changing my score to 33-17 Skins. HTTR!
