The Redskins are who we thought they were. Can't hang with the big boys.
They can hang with them if they dont have a scary passing attack, (Car, DAL, Etc) but when we play teams like NO, ATL , even INDY we saw what happened. That's why I dont see us beating the Eagles, Wentz will carve us up and we wont score enough to stay in the game. I'm not sure what Jay and company were planning when they put this Offense together, if it wasn't for AD we would be 3-5 right now and Jay would be on the way out. |
Re: Postgame Falcons
For me the most disconcerting part was just how ineffective our DTs were against BACKUPS. Everyone is due for a bad game, so I'll chalk it up to that, but our beastly line got mauled by garbage. Mack is an All-Pro but beyond that... ????
I think we have a good idea of what kind of team we have at this point in the year. If we play good D and get the run game going, we can win games.
Against air-raid attack offenses with stout defenses like Atlanta we don't stand a chance. Defense looks terrible against these aggressive teams on offense. And asking Alex Smith to do anything more than play a slow, ball-control offense predicated on a working running game is a bad idea. I watch teams like the Rams, Saints, Pats, even the Packers and I wonder how they get so lucky having so many reliable options on the field at the same time.
It's not luck. They draft or trade for explosive players. |

That is the difference in being a GREAT defense and a solid one, ours is not great because they lack consistency. All week we heard about the Falcons beat up OLINE and bad defense and we couldn't do shit on either. Jay just seems like he's out coached way too much, the fact that some are asking for Colt Mccoy is also absurd, what the hell has he ever done to warrant a starting job halfway through the season? He beat Dallas 1 time on MNF, big deal. Alex is what he is but he has NO help at WR, dont tell me about Doc, he is garbage. Crowder is hurt, Mo harris is nothing more than a ST player that is lucky to see the field due to injuries and lack of talent. Reed is not elite anymore and VD is basically old and done. The fact is we dont have the heat to keep up with the good teams and our defense is not as good as we thought. |

Can someone explain this to me: https://www.pro-football-reference.com/coaches/GrudJa0.htm
Why has the Jay Gruden passing offense become so fucking aweful? As OC for Bengals, throw away the first 2 years while he became acclimated...the ranking of passing offense is really good: OC: 8th, 11, HC: 11, 2, 12, Right now its a career worse: 24th in the league. Tell me what is wrong...He's never had great talent...probably avg talent at QB, WR, TE, and RB. Oline Protection has been decent overall this year. What has happened to the Jay Gruden passing offense? I think if you say well "we are running the ball better"...that's a red herring. The passing offense should only get better from a better running attack. |
I'm just glad AS finally had a 300 yard passing game to pad his stats.
IDK if you really should be that glad. AS had to throw 46 times yesterday playing catch-up. Don't know how much of a stats guy you are, but I looked it up. In the 3 losses this season, Smith averaged 43 attempts for 291 yards per game. In the 5 wins, he averaged only 29 attempts and 199 ypg. On the other hand, in the 5 wins, Peterson averaged 22 rushes for 112 ypg. In the 3 losses, AD averaged 8 carries for 14 yards. Seems to me that if you keep AS under 33 attempts, and get AD 20 touches, you have a pretty good formula. |
Colt is a average QB at best that cant move around as well as Alex so it would not be any better. Its not a BS excuse, our wrs suck, they dont get open and they drop balls. Matt Ryan has a loaded group to throw too, Alex last year was lights out because he had a damn good wr group. WR's matter in a pass first league
I think the people who were excited to get Smith here never watched a recent Chief game and just looked at box scores. KC also has a tight end that averages 5 yards after first contact. Their wide receivers are also good at avoiding tacklers. The receivers they have right now would make any QB look good. |

Re: Postgame Falcons
I'm really concerned about the health of the line. Scherff, I'm guessing, is a torn pectoral and done for the year. Lauvao is likely a knee or torn calf, done for year. And Moses is going to be hobbled.
It's hard being optimistic going forward when the strength of our offense was just ripped out from under us. It's really hard to see Peterson having any room to run with Scherff and Trent sidelined. |

Cousins had no better WRs last year and still moved the ball down the field much better than this. I can't imagine Gruden redesigned all his passing plays...so it's Smith. Either he just isn't comfortable enough in the offense to run it efficiently, or he simply doesn't trust the WRs and TEs to throw on time. How often is he throwing a receiver open? Whoever he throws to, is usually just waiting on the ball. It's rare for any of WRs to catch a ball in stride where they can get any yards after a catch. |

It just doesn't look right...Alex has to shoulder some blame (tape and QBR says so), but the scheme just seems so limited. Poor decisions at Receiving personnel (Doctson is a bust, Richardson has brought very little, etc)....Matt Cavanaugh is our O Coordinator...we rarely mention his name...seems likely he will be made a scapegoat. Postgame Falcons
Smith is a QB that needs a running game and he needs more weapons. He’s never been a guy that can beat you dropping back 40 times a game. We had that guy and didn’t want to pay him so here we are.

Just seems like a bad fit for the offense. Im so sick and fucking tired of this organization and its QB choices. No one in the front office seems to think it out, all reactive and nothing proactive You make a fuckboy trade for D McNabb, Shanny and Son never wanted You trade a ridiculous amount of picks for RG3 who the HC and OC never fucking wanted. You then trade Fuller (Guess what folks, he's ballin now after a slow start) for Alex Smith and as a topper sign to a ridiculous extension for a 33 year old QB who not even a fit for the offense. Meanwhile....we've never drafted a young QB to groom...we got nothing on the bench. FFS..god aweful. Fuck Bruce Allen |

Re: Postgame Falcons
I remember going to a Redskin game back in 05. Gibbs really had a good team that year and it was a home game against the 49ers. So I had these seats behind the 49ers bench and watched Smith throw duck after duck after duck in warmups. I never forgot that and could not believe that an NFL QB drafted #1 overall could not spin the ball.

It seems that we cannot do both at the same time. During the Saints/Rams game they talked about how well the Saints have transformed that awful D they had to something formidable while still adding players to the offense to keep it rolling. That must be nice to have. |

Not only the left guard, but the entire depth situation with the interior O line. I called it offseason. Its been mismanaged from the beginning. They should have spent 1.0-2.5 million for a Vet interior Olineman...they insisted on going with UDFA and garbage off the street that couldn't make other teams. Luavao single handly cost us the first possession of the game..FFS..You don't get a lot of possessions and our fucking LG cost us 1. |

Well it is easy when you have a QB like Brees that will make an opposing team one dimensional on offense. The defense doesn't have to be perfect but you don't want to get into a trade off of TDs vs FGs with NO. A good QB is a great defensive weapon puts too much pressure on the opposing team. |
Re: Postgame Falcons
Matt Ryans 4 tds yesterday.
AVG Depth of target = 1 yard AVG YAC = 31 Yards. Atlanta started out 8-8 on 3rd down, there is no excuse for that. Yeah the offense sucks but the defense was laughable yesterday. |

That's not particularly true when it came to our DTs. Atlanta was doubling our tackles on many of their running plays. Or, they were running on the edge of our defensive line. Our ILBs and safeties were doing a poor job filling. |

That's it, IMO. People who are gnashing teeth about what this receiver or tight end can't do just need to look at who Smith is as a QB. He's not one to elevate who's around him. He's an okay/steady QB, and if surrounded by the "right" personnel will excel. Cousins may have thrown more picks by now than Smith, but he'd be able to elevate the play of his personnel. Yesterday's loss didn't have much of anything to do with Smith. Of course, it's a team game and the offense certainly didn't do enough, but with the penalties, injuries to our O-line, poor play from our ILBs and safeties in the run game (ILBs played poorly in the run and passing game), and the lack of ability to adjust to what's happening in front in them re: Gruden and Manusky, then yesterday is what you got. |
Re: Postgame Falcons
That is called out scheming your opponent, happens alot against us
You'd get no argument from me on that front. I was just letting the previous poster know that Atlanta wasn't just mauling our DTs. Our tackles were actually doing their job, as far as occupying blockers. Once that happens, then it's the job of the ILBs and safeties to fill and make the play. |

Re: Postgame Falcons
Didn't the Falcons have two guards out? They certainly didn't have any problems what so ever running the ball right down our fucking throats. I'm tired of this o-line. All these guys do is get hurt every year. Knowing that, you have to have good backups. The kid from Louisville is weak and needs to live in the weight room.

I understand your point, but the Falcons had time to prepare with their guards (who has been played a game or more under their belts, and even a bye week). Our guards were fresh, and frankly didn't play all too bad IMO. The Falcons' run game yesterday consisted of doubling our tackles or running on the perimeter of our defense. They outschemed us, along with our ILBs and safeties failure to fill gaps. |

Apples and oranges. It's one thing if the Falcons lost both starting guards in the game yesterday AND had brand new players who have never been in a regular season NFL game before coming off the bench. The real problem is that this team doesn't know how to draft depth for their offensive line. Every year, there's some deficiency the front office either fails to recognize or doesn't have the funds to address. |
