Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Collins is well respected around the league as a true locker room leader. Something this team needs big time

I wager Collins will be used the way Sua Cravens was drafted to be used. Hybrid LB / Safety. Three safety package he goes to LB. Put him where he can impact the most not in a strict scheme.

Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
I saw the poll on here earlier and I decided not to vote yet and think about it. Then I remembered Zeke and Saquon are in our division. Sounds like a big hitting box safety is exactly what we need.

Who the EFF cares about the money??? Collins was one of the guys I was hoping we would get and we got him. Now, on to draft our next quarterback.

Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
I am good with that structure haha. Wizardry is exactly correct. If he plays well years 4, 5 and 6 will be not that bad due to inflation of the cap.

I can't imagine anything that would keep the NFLPA getting any less but i could see them getting even more cap money.

Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Play now pay later. Not a big fan of that. That is a lot of dough for a safety looking at over the cap only Eric Berry 78 mil contract is even close.

Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Matty I want an Eric Schaffer avatar. This is amazing.

Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
So if Denver is covering about 4 million of Keenum's contract and Collins only has a 4 million cap hit this year, does that mean Denver is paying Collins to play safety for us this year? That's cool. Thanks, Broncos.

Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
So basically the Redskins are back loading this contract?

And reportedly the guaranteed amount is $30+ million, NOT $45 million |

Kudos to this Front Office.
Collins only counts 4M against the cap next season! https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/washington-redskins/landon-collins-16757/ |

Ha, speaking of that guy (off topic)...was listening to the sports radio earlier, and John Elway is like "He’ll have a chance to make the football team so we’ll see what he does." |
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Love ESPN. Their fucking ad works clear as day, but the Riddick video doesn't. Tried on more than 1 device. NFL.com videos work just fine. Fuck you ESPN.

Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Smart contract, again.
Tyrann Matthieu having signed with the Chiefs for a similar APY definitely reinforces the feeling we overpaid. But again we weren't getting a player of that caliber without overpaying a bit. Nobody would want to come otherwise. |
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
The important thing is the signing bonus is small, so getting away from the Collins contract is easy after the guaranteed years pass by. It's a good deal for the team - he clearly wanted to play with the Skins at some point in his career.
Everyone really needs to ignore the $14M average annual value because with the way it's structured it's much more like a 2-3 year deal with options to continue the relationship. Collins and the agent said they wanted the highest average annual value, Collins said he wanted to be a Redskin, and the team said OK we'll make it all happen but we're not taking a lot of risk by giving a big signing bonus. And they made it work. As always we have to wait for full contract details before we can judge a free agent signing. This one's good. |
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Very reasonable deal, people that were scoffing over the initial numbers are looking pretty silly now.
Never judge a deal on the initial numbers. |

Never judge a deal on the initial numbers.
Its still a lot for a Safety with the cap hit...coming off recent coverage issues. The question now is going forward...I don't want to fucking hear about not having the money for obvious issues on the team. And saying well lets wait for the draft to fill the need is ass backwards team building...that's how you seriously fuck up. Left Guard, Safety, Edge pass rusher...We need starters at everyone of these positions. We have no Oline depth...none sans the Tackle from Louisville. Look at the money allocated at TE...makes zero sense. WR is a complete mess. We need a lot of help...so the Collins deal is great...but we need to continue to spend money. Smart money |

At the minimum you cut Vernon Davis and move Sprinkle up to 2nd TE. But Id look for a trade for Reed...see if you could get a late 3rd, or early 4th round pick. Rams and Pats got some comp picks in the 3rd round...try to get one of those...Reed isn't the future here. |

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/positional/tight-end/ Washington Redskins 5 $17,755,334 $3,551,067 9.19% We spend more on Tight Ends than any other team. |

Yes. |
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Yes.
Important to remember at this point, a new cba will come into play for the 21-24 portion. While no one knows what will happen, it's inconcievable to me that the player pool of money would decrease in any meaningful way. The most likely outcome is an even larger salary cap number with more tools to maneuver money in contracts. So, the back end cap numbers on any deals made going forward is even more circumspect then in the past. |

Eric Schaffer did wonders with this contract, but Collins and his agent had to agree to it. |
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
There are backloaded contracts where you've paid a huge signing bonus and kept the salary low in the first few years, like the Redskins used to do under Cerrato. And then there are backloaded contracts with low signing bonuses and no guaranteed money after the first few years.
With the former, your cap gets crushed if you release the player. With the latter, you can release the player after three years with little in the way of cap repercussions. The Redskins signed Collins to the latter. |

Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
Why the fuck are we talking about trading Jordan Reed. Are we playing fantasy GM? Because if so fine go nuts but you might as well just fart in the wind.
Jay Gruden is never going to sign off on trading Reed. He loves the guy and runs his offense through him. It will never go on the table. |

If you're sick of his injuries, how do you think another team would feel about giving up a pick and taking on his $9M salary or whatever he makes? This is asinine GTFOH |
Re: Redskins sign Landon Collins 6 yr/84M
The contract definitely looks good now, but I swear all you Collins lovers better not be bitching when you see him get burnt for a td because he was out of position. If we use him right he can be a major impact player. Teams are going to try and take advantage of him in coverage though.

I'm really looking forward to hearing Cooley break down his film. This can't cover stuff seems to be seriously overblown.

This is asinine GTFOH
LOL...asinine to me, is expecting a different outcome with Reed/VD at this point. Nothing at point of attack blocking, injuries...VD drops, Reed miscommunication leading to Ints. Knowing we spend more than any other team at TE and getting that return is a fucking embarrassment. Im trying to offer solutions. The cap space on some of these teams could absorb whatever the hit is in a limited TE market. I don't think its out of realm of possibilities. |

Both Reed and Davis have shown they have the ability to excel but with no WR threat teams can shut them down. In addition it was abundantly clear last year that Smith and Reed just didnt see the reads on the field the same. Reed still can be dynamic but it will depend on who the qb ends up being. |
