The record breaking $100M deal that WR Michael Thomas & the Saints have agreed to includes $61M in New Guaranteed Money, which is the most in NFL history for a Non-QB offensive player. This massive extension was negotiated by

Two positions I would not pay big $ to. 1. Wr 2. RB. Thomas has been a stud but you can have him for 20 mil a year.

Agreed about the RB. Draft a second or third-round RB and keep him until his contract runs out. Then repeat the procedure. WR is a different story. We signed DeSean Jackson after he left Philly and he instantly extended the field for us and also immediately became an annual 1,000 yd WR. Then we let him go and now he is back at Philly ready to torment us again. The skins have been notoriously BAD at drafting WR in the Snyder era. Maybe Trey Quinn and other recent draft picks will change that trend but getting one premium FA WR on the team will help us. Not sure if Ricards is the answer now - he's had a quiet training camp.... I wonder if Cam Sims will take his place. |
Re: Around the NFL: Training Camp 2019 edition
WR is a HUGE need in todays NFL.. You have to pay those guys what they deserve. Look at our roster, or the Giants now, teams that are weak at WR in todays league are in big trouble.

I agree with the Browns fans. But I can't root for guys like Beckham. He is the ultimate narcissist to the core. And Mayfield just comes across as a total douche. |

I totally disagree. Wr's can be found in the mid and later rounds and still be paid modest money. Paying a wr 20 million is absurd. They only touch the ball a few times a game. A great QB makes average wr's look good. |

How many of those sitting around though? How did Kirk look without DJAX and PG? Very avg. How did Case look last yr without Diggs and Theilen. Yes SOME QB's make WR's look great but to say that any avg WR can make a difference is not the case anymore. That was back in the 80s and 90s. The game is not the same . The best athletes are WR's now |
Re: Around the NFL: Training Camp 2019 edition
Other than NE, Name me a team with bottom tier WRs and they are good on offense?
Here's a list of teams with no true #1 WR. Miami = sucks Washington = bad pass game (may change if Terry and Harmon are legit) Ravens = no pass game Raiders without Cooper last yr = sucked Dallas with Cooper = WAYYY Better List could go on but there is no doubt that pass catchers are very valuable and Mike Thomas got what the market is for great WRs |

Exactly. Just like the Redskins did by signing a very average QB like Alex Smith with a big, fat and long contract. BA was trying to get a quick fix for the Cousins fiasco. You only pay the big bucks for an elite QB. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Around the NFL: Training Camp 2019 edition
Having an elite QB correlates to having a consistent, winning team. He can't carry the team by himself, but without real talent at that position generally, you can't maintain an above-average or better franchise.

Yeah paying any old WR 20 million is just flat out insane but when you have someone like Michael Thomas who catches 85% of the balls thrown his way, and is an elite number 1 at that age, that is what the market dictates. Doesn't mean you go out there and pay Robert Woods that because he had 1200 yards because he isn't on Michael Thomas level. I am still mad we didn't take him over Josh Doctson but I have to learn to live with that. |
Re: Around the NFL: Training Camp 2019 edition
Per ESPN, Dallas has offered Dak,Zeke and Cooper "Top 5" level of pay per each position, Zeke has rumored to decline that offer. It appears he could really pull off a Leveon Bell here but we'll see who budges first.
BTW paying those guys that kind of money would most likely mean they lose Byron Jones and Jaylon Smith which is perfectly fine for me |

I'd offer a contract to Cooper around the 6th-5th highest WR in the game and hold there. I would not offer Dak a contract until after the season...I would definitely pause at paying him north of 30 mil. |
Re: Around the NFL: Training Camp 2019 edition
source with knowledge of the situation tells NBC's Chris Simms that Antonio Brown is dealing with frostbitten feet after "entering a cryotherapy machine without the proper footwear."
Well that's a new one. Brown had previously been described as dealing with "blisters." Speaking Tuesday, coach Jon Gruden would only say the team was "gathering information." It's a ridiculous injury but hardly a laughing matter. Brown's status for the remainder of camp should be considered up in the air. Kevin Sheehan is right these diva WR aren't worth the time...AB and ODB Jr...Dez Bryant... |

Shepperd is already back practicing with the Team and while I do think that Tate's suspension will be upheld a reduction would be nice. He too is still practicing with the team. The Giants lost Coleman who was going to be more valuable as a Kickoff return man not a wide out. |
Re: Around the NFL: Training Camp 2019 edition
Giants receivers are in trouble with no Coleman and Tate for awhile. Wonder if they'd have reconsidered the OBJ trade with these developments.

Already a little rumbling going on. I said it before just not enough footballs to go around to keep all the egos happy and God forbid they hit a rough patch . It reminds me of when the Eagles had the dream team with Vick in Philly and they imploded. |
Re: Around the NFL: Training Camp 2019 edition
The Browns are still the Browns, I'm the biggest Baker fan out there but the hype is stupid for a team that never wins shit. Lets not forget that Baker was awesome last yr and he still had a losing record.

Lot of young, volatile guys on that team. Guess Redskins' fans will get a preview of them tomorrow night.

Re: Around the NFL: Training Camp 2019 edition
NFL suspended Cowboys DE Robert Quinn two games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.
Quinn was already in danger of missing Weeks 1 and 2 as he recovered from hand surgery, so it could have been worse for the Cowboys. For his part, Quinn is furious with the league, saying the positive test was triggered by his seizure medicine. Quinn is a glorified situational pass rusher as this stage of his career, but his loss will be felt against the Giants and Redskins. Kerry Hyder is expected to start in his absence.
