Re: Coronavirus (non political)
We've been studying the flu for decades, this is new and we dont even know where it started, and the way the symptoms dont show themselves till after you could have already spread it to other people,it seems pretty scary to me.
China is not being transparent and theyre some lying mofos anyway.Personally I think this thing escaped from their lab in Wuhan somehow |

Always best to stick with what the experts are saying
What we know so far about the 2019 novel coronavirus Where and how did COVID-19 begin? We learned about this particular virus shortly after a cluster of severe pneumonia cases were reported on New Year’s Eve 2019 in Wuhan, which is in the Hubei Province of China. On January 9, virologists and other public health researchers identified the strain as a novel coronavirus, which was tied to a specific “wet market” in the city of Wuhan, where they sell fish and other live animals. These markets have been known to transmit viruses before. For cultural reasons in the region, people want to see the specific animals they’re buying be slaughtered in front of them, so they know they’re receiving the products they paid for. As a result, particles of infectious viruses or bacteria can be aerosolized and, in rare instances, jump from animals to people. It’s how SARS, another coronavirus, started in 2003. |

You won't hear a right-leaner say this very often, but the government regulation we have in place with the FDA is of critical importance to public health. China just does not give a F about such things. |

agree. FDA does a lot of things right. You would think some type of quality control or basic standards would be enforced to avoid these issues. WOW...oil just crashed |

Re: Coronavirus (non political)
33 states and Washington D.C. have confirmed cases, two more today, and the death toll rising to 21 victims in the United States.
https://www.yahoo.com/gma/fast-moving-developments-coronavirus-outbreak-004400615.html As the coronavirus gained a foothold in the United States, thousands of employees from Seattle to Silicon Valley were told to work from home. Public school districts in several states have shut down, universities are moving classes to online only, and even churches are limiting services or prayer meetings. A global health conference in Orlando, Florida, planned for Monday, which President Donald Trump was supposed to address, will no longer happen. Off the California coast, another cruise ship with infected passengers is waiting for a place to dock. The State Department on Sunday advised Americans, especially those with underlying health conditions, not to travel on cruise ships. As the coronavirus spread to two-thirds of the states, Americans began to grasp the magnitude of the threat facing them. The weekend’s case tally ballooned, veering toward nearly 600 cases and close to 20 deaths. https://www.yahoo.com/news/u-health-experts-stricter-measures-121112738.html The head of the Port Authority — who has been visiting local airports — has the coronavirus, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday, as the state’s infection toll rose by 37, to 142 patients. Cuomo said he himself “could have been in contact” with infected PA executive director Rick Cotton but hasn’t been tested because he’s an “improbable positive,” meaning he isn’t likely to have the virus. The governor didn’t say how Cotton may have contracted the potentially deadly bug but noted that the executive director “has been at the airports, obviously, when many people were coming back with the virus.” Cuomo specifically mentioned JFK Airport in Queens. id say there its a good chance healthy folks have had it and thought it was a cold or mild case of flu especially if they got the flu shot. The media's coverage and how they are handling this is once again a black eye on the industry. Also, shout out to the young white privilege elites with a degree on twitter/facebook who don't work in the health industry, claim they are into science/scientist or have entrepreneur as their occupation putting together "best guess maps of infection stats, mortality rate, total deaths" and spreading it far and wide...clearly fake news. it reminds me of the internet sleuths who compiling their own Mueller investigation....Where they had already found Trump guilty and worked backwards to connect the dots. brilliant folks in their own mind. |

Mean while from Oct 1, 2019 to Feb 29, 2020 there have been between 20,000 to 52,000 deaths from the flu.

Re: Coronavirus (non political)
Harvard University announced Tuesday that all classes will be suspended in person and moved online as a result of the coronavirus, following the lead of several other schools.
The Cambridge Ivy League school becomes the second major Massachusetts college to shift to remote teaching, after Amherst College on Monday told students not to return to campus when spring break ends, according to the Boston Globe. https://www.foxnews.com/us/harvard-suspends-classes-work-online-coronavirus Italy has extended its emergency coronavirus measures, which include travel restrictions and a ban on public gatherings, to the entire country. On Monday, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte ordered people to stay home and seek permission for essential travel. He said the measures were designed to protect the most vulnerable. "There is no more time," he said in a TV address. Italy's coronavirus death toll jumped from 366 to 463 on Monday. It is the worst-hit country after China. The number of confirmed infection also increased by 24% from Sunday, official figures showed. Cases of the virus have been confirmed in all 20 Italian regions. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-51810673 Eight states have declared a state of emergency after confirmed coronavirus cases rose to more than 560, and the outbreak has forced schools across the country to close. Oregon became the latest to declare a state of emergency on Sunday. Governor Kate Brown made the decision when the number of coronavirus cases doubled to over 14 in the state. It joined California, New York, Washington, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, and Florida in declaring a state of emergency. https://www.yahoo.com/news/coronavirus-8-states-declare-emergency-174138236.html So .. is Italy on a complete quarantine? I couldnt walk to a grocery store, movie, bar etc. No school, no sports ... nothing. |

I know it seems wrong to be thinking about vacation at a time like this, but man Southwest came down insanely strong on their prices this week.
DC to Vegas one way for $120, Boston $50, Chicago $80. I've been planning my west coast trip for 3 years now and I'm really tempted to buy it while the price is right. If I book for the summer hopefully the virus will die out by then right? |
Re: Coronavirus (non political)
Seems like the perfect time to be thinking about it. Being smart about your finances doesn't mean you don't care about others.
Yes, you'll be fine. |
Re: Coronavirus (non political)
Several hundred churchgoers at an Episcopal church in Washington, D.C. have been asked to self-quarantine after a reverend who gave Holy Communion and shook hands with parishioners tested positive for coronavirus.
The Rev. Tim Cole, the rector of Christ Church in Georgetown – and D.C.'s first coronavirus case – interacted with several congregants last weekend throughout multiple services because he thought he had recovered from the flu. It turns out it was the coronavirus, and it worsened, according to church officials. https://www.foxnews.com/us/coronavirus-update-dc-church-georgetown-quarantine |

we aren't a hunker down society...its tough. Its crazy imo people are still traveling to Asia, middle east and Europe. Even though it seems like we are unprepared, we still can cope much better than any place outside our borders. One place where we should be looking for information is South Korea, their data should be on point. |

I don't think there is any preparing for this, all you can really do is react to the situation as it presents itself. It's spreading so rapidly and easily. Staying away from people and keeping your hygiene regimen are the key steps. I can definitely do the staying away from people part, we introverts have been training for this our whole lives! |
Re: Coronavirus (non political)
this is no lie...folks on one side of the floor is having "office pot luck" right now.
pretty smart right? they are inline, multiple spoons being passed, paper plates being bumped, fried chicken served up with "water" hot dogs...hands being place in chips bags, salsa being dipped. After everyone over eats, then they will be shittin up the bathrooms multiple times, clogging toilets, water all over sinks.... JFC...this is ground zero for this virus. |
Re: Coronavirus (non political)
Went to Costco yesterday out here. The 2nd to last shopping cart in the row closest to everyone had 2 wet tissues (it had been raining but was probably used too). That cart got avoided like the plague by me and everyone else.
Side note - the line inside of Costco to get to the back where the TP is was at least 100 deep. I wasn't there for that thank goodness. People are going crazy. I need to buy some Cottonnelle stock asap. |
Re: Coronavirus (non political)
I don't even understand the toilet paper thing. Do people not realize that Coronavirus causes no G.I. symptoms?? Does everybody think it gives you the runs?
I would understand buying up bottled water, tylenol, canned foods like soup, stuff like that. But the toilet paper thing is just bizarre. |

This is why it's spreading everywhere, these folks right here. My wife is a nurse at the local hospital...one of the doctors and his family had traveled to China because his father was very ill, legit reason to travel, but upon returning back to the states, he wanted to come right back to work. Obviously everyone was against him doing this, but the Board for the hospital approved him coming back immediately to see patients. After only 2 days back, his son started showing "flu like symptoms"....and at THAT point, he decided he probably should stay away from work. Luckily, the son did not have anything serious, but so easily could have and it would have been a huge mess! All because precautions were not taken. |

I have always kept a decent stock of toilet paper and paper towels, just a habit. Where I live the panic shoppers wipe out all the eggs and milk at the Food Lion whenever a winter storm is predicted. Also a wise person doesn't shop when it starts to snow, people lose their minds. shopping carts left scattered all over the parking lot where people drive through like maniacs escaping a burning building. Everybody panics acting like WW3 is coming even if just 2-4" snow is predicted. |

Re: Coronavirus (non political)
The fact that I can’t find toilet paper anywhere is really pissing me off. I have two rolls in reserve so normally that’s when I go buy another 4 pack. Are people planning on shitting 5 times a day or something? FFS it’s like when the grocery stores are packed when there’s 6 inches of snow coming. Just retarded.
