I have been here and made some comments. After the season is over there isn't much to comment on and since I cant stand college football and don't watch it I don't have anything to say about players who I've never seen play.

There is no way they keep the logo, it keeps them open for more protests. The best that can be hoped for is that they keep the colors and I'm not sure even that will happen.

I am now convinced the name change and new stadium go hand-in-hand. Snyder won't get a new stadium unless he changes the name. He won't change the name unless he gets a new stadium.

I watch sports to get away from the daily grind of politics.. I’m really close to closing the door on all pro sports ... think about what’s going on .. the true history of this country ( bad and good) is being erased .. the great Super Bowl redskin teams we all loved could be gone .. if the name is so bad now why would any of us refer to the team agian with any pride ? If the name redskins is truly rascist then everyone of us could be labeled that also.. should I feel bad for ever pulling for this team ?? ... I’m confused .. I try and love everyone and respect everyone.. I don’t even think about race .. My view is there is only two types of people .. the good and the bad .

We should take down ALL historical statues and replace them with unicorn, ice cream cone, and tooth fairy statues.

We can all never have our feelings hurt again and live in fantasy land.

We definitely need to change our team name. I'm thinking Washington Willows is nice and peaceful. Plop a tree on that helmet and call it a uniform.

And proud to be core racists. A fact particularly apparent to the majority of NFL players. Can’t think of anything more objectionable than a statue to a traitor and racist. Wiping out these statues is more than a century overdue.

At that time in history all of America was racist. The only way you could tell one racist general from another was by the color of his uniform coat.

The thought of making war on their families, friends and neighbors was morally repugnant for many career soldiers from southern states.

Just as the Civil War had to happen then, the monuments to Confederate generals must now be removed. Time and tide make it so.

Well a lot were to honor the fallen dead of the rebel army, the generals who lead them...other times it was too intimidated black Americans. Were some generals racists? Absolutely, many were across the country...it was different time, different norms and thankfully we moved past that...I think most should come down or be moved to a museum.

Here in Richmond they will be coming down which a lot of people are in favor of which hopefully will bring people together.

I really like the vintage design although I'm not fan of the gold jersey, it's a little bit too much for me. I love the faux leather helmet and 1970-71 helmet, I think both would go well with the jerseys above.

I don't know why you think that. It's really easy to not give a F what people think. You simply hold up the survey that says the majority of Native Americans don't find the team name offensive. Until that changes your stance is iron-clad. Hold that survey up like double birds in the air.

The only name change I'll remotely accept is to change the name to a specific tribe name, with their approval. And the tribe can help design the logo. It won't be a human depiction. It would be something historic the tribe used or an animal that represents something positive/honorable to them.

If that's not good enough for all the people whining about changing the name, then fuck them, keep the Redskins.

We should be finding positive ways to keep Native Americans represented in our country and it's part of the team history that I don't want to lose.

It would also be a way to partner with that tribe to set up a foundation that donates a certain % of profits to Native American causes. Or part of the sales proceeds from certain items. There are many food options on that front.

I think we need to be careful unequivocally hanging our hat on the WaPo survey as it [B]poled people who "self identify" as NA[/B]. As in checked a box.

Seems lots of people have been "self identifying" since 2000 via the US Census Bureau.

According to a recent Pew Research Center study, 50 percent of people surveyed who claim a mixed heritage say their grandparents or parents are of non-Hispanic White and American Indian heritage.

“*This is higher than what the U.S. Census data show,” says D’Vera Cohn, a senior writer and editor for the Pew Research Center. “*The difference being that the census asks people to self-identify their own race, while our survey asked people to give the race of their parents and/or grandparents.”

Twenty-one percent of multiracial adults checked the non-Hispanic White/American Indian combination in the 2013 U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey.

*The difference may seem like comparing apples to apples, but while 50 percent of the people identified their parents or grandparents of being of Native American heritage, they didn’t identify themselves as being “multi-racial.” Only 25 percent of these same adults surveyed consider themselves multiracial.

In addition, 12 percent identify themselves as non-Hispanic Black and American Indian, while another 6 percent identify as non-Hispanic White, Black and American Indian. Another 11 percent identify as multiracial Hispanic.

“That big difference is that we’re a political group,” she notes. “To legally state that you’re an American Indian, you must prove that you are and we do that through tribal enrollment.”

Proudfit acknowledges that there are problems in centuries-old recordkeeping and familial folklore that could have been embellished throughout the years.

“I think there are a few things going on with people who identify themselves as American Indian,” she says. “These surveys and studies include people who are taking word from family folklore and there are some people who just identify with this imagination of a hero Indian or Pocahontas princess. I think the more people who are Native the better, but we don’t want to see ethnic fraud, either.”

In fact, the Pew Research study also revealed that, while 50 percent of those surveyed identi*fied as having mixed heritage, only 22 percent say they have a lot in common with American Indians and only 19 percent say they have had a lot of contact with their relatives who are American Indian.

Most—82 percent—said their American Indian heritage has made no difference in their lives, which may lead to the conclusion that the people who claim American Indian heritage haven’t and don’t intend on trying to use it to gain any benefits.

“Most of the people in the survey said they don’t feel accepted by American Indians,” says Cohn. “I think this identi*fication is the result of two things. One of them is that the U.S. Census changed in 2000, allowing people to check more than one race. Another is that people simply want to honor the heritage people were told in their family stories.”

WASHINGTON - Bring up the subject of Native Americans to any group of Americans, and at least one person will claim to have a Cherokee ancestor, pointing to high cheekbones or straight dark hair as evidence. Chances are, there’s not a single Indian in his or her family tree.

Dubbed the “Cherokee Syndrome,” it is a growing trend in America: More than 819,000 Americans self-identified as Cherokee on the 2010 federal census, alone or mixed-race. By comparison, the combined population of the three federally recognized Cherokee tribes — the Cherokee Nation and United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee in Oklahoma, and the Eastern Band of Cherokee in North Carolina — amounts to fewer than 400,000.

Some of those checking the “American Indian” box on census forms may indeed have Cherokee ancestors, but a significant number do not. Even so, they are “going Native” in increasing numbers. Furthermore, they are connecting with one another on social media to form groups.

Give me a legit survey from people who are legit NA. Not people who have been told that her great grandmother was half NA. My ex is convinced she is part NA because of family lore about "big mama" plus her hair dresser said she has NA like hair.

I am sure she checked NA as one the boxes she checked. Based on family folklore and a picture.

She doesnt know anything about NA, is a redskins fan ... and it seems would qualify for the Wash Po poll.

I remember at the '91 SB there was a small group of protesters there... so the idea that the name is going to change in time without immense political and social pressure is just crazy. Right now it's just silly woke white people like Florio or Peter King and it's very easy to write them off as crazy liberals.
