Re: In memory of our REDSKINS
I was a football fan as a kid but didn't have a team until SB XVII. Watching Riggins tear it up that night had me hooked for life.
The last 20 years though under Snyder has definitely left me less passionate for the team and at this point I don't have much hope for any sustained success as long as he's owner. Kind of feels like Rivera is our last hope.
I started losing hope after RG3 happened.. I really thought he was the savior and man he was fun to watch! Then they ruined him and a damn good coaching staff.. Well Kirk gave us a little hope, of course they fucked that up too! I agree man, and it's not just the name change but the last 3-4 years I've really lost some love for the team. Losing doesn't even affect me anymore. Maybe Ron is the man to fix things, guess we'll see. |

Go with Redwolves and keep the traditional R as the helmet logo.. Put a Wolf on the sleeves. Or Redtails - Redhawks whatever |

We may get something like that this year.
Just please, if they do a spear, take the stripes off. I've seen concepts with a spear and the current stripes, looks horrible. |
Re: In memory of our REDSKINS
A source told ESPN that the plan, as of now, is to retain the franchise's use of burgundy and gold colors. Coach Ron Rivera had said the team wanted to include the military in its new name, as well.
So... no Redwolves? |

Saw that online but would they really name the franchise after a Chopper unit? I'd think it would be more like "Vets" or something. Maybe Redtails is the answer |
Re: In memory of our REDSKINS
You can go with a wolves theme but also say it's a tie in to the military as well. Many ways to spin it.

With that Norfolk connection, it just makes so much sense. I'm really warming up to the Wolves. I'm still rooting for Warriors so we can use this look. It won't feel like the Redskins have completely died that way. Yes I admit it, I'm clinging onto any of the team's past that I can. Re: In memory of our REDSKINS
I wish Dan would have manned up and told the NFL, Fred Smith, incompetent dc govt and the sensitive ass lynch mob to go fuck themselves. I ain't changing shit. Instead he sold out cause of money. I hate Fred Smith. He isn't even from here and is going to tell Dan to change the name? Seriously screw that guy. Take your money and get lost.
In the end Dan is weak. He's not a leader, a maverick like Cooke was. He needs his new head coach to hold his balls. Say what you want about Al Davis but imagine someone telling him to change the Raiders. He would have lol in their faces. As I said, I will never ever put some Redtail or Redwolf shit on. |

Re: In memory of our REDSKINS
Super sad today. I started watching and picked the skins as my team around 89, or 90. Man....watching that 91 suber bowl was amazing. Watching Jim kelly get absolutely thrown around by, arguably, one of the best defensive units to ever take the field was something that my 10 year old eyes were taken back by. That was it for me....I was a fan for life. All of my favorite players were on that 91 team....right down to chip lohmiller. Joe Gibbs is in the top 3 or 4 coaches to ever field a team. I remember being unbelievably proud to put on my mark rypien jersey and go to school which in my area is 80 % eagles fans, and 15% dallas fans at the time with some giants fans peppered in. Even as late as last year I bought an ernest byner jersey. I'm still unbelievably nostalgic about that team. That superbowl is on youtube, btw...if anyone wants to see the Bill's get handled. I remember watching the posse line up in the bunch formation while the hogs defended the qb so many times. It was like watching a piece of art being painted.
I embrace change, generally speaking...but this ones kind of tough to wrap my head around. This is something that's been a part of my life for 30 years. When I was at the lowest points in my life, I could still put on the skins and get together with some good friends and for at least a little bit, forget about problems....win, lose, or draw (fucking Bengals in london) I could just relax and have fun with friends and family. That's probably my absolute fondest memory about the skins. How much fun it was to just spend time with loved ones while watching play...good or bad. |

This is the personal attachment that the protesters just don't get. It's not about clinging to the name, it's about the sentimental value. The team could have been called the Turkey Vultures and we'd still have the same feelings. I'm sad too. My jackass father-in-law from NY made a stupid comment in email this morning that we should be called the "Yellow Bellies" since we caved. That's not even remotely funny to me. My son even gets it, he's still pre-teen and has the same attachment I do. He says he'll never stop wearing his Redskins gear. He has a framed Sean Taylor photo on his bedroom wall. Another memory I left out earlier: My wife had just delivered my son. I went home to get a few hours of sleep and when I returned to the hospital in the morning, the first thing my wife said to me when I walked into her hospital room was "SEAN TAYLOR WAS JUST SHOT". She even understood the impact it would have on me. Such a bittersweet day, I took my son home from the hospital the same day we lost Sean. My son has a personal attachment to him as do I. He has only watched highlights and used Sean on Madden games, but he's a legend in our house. |
Re: In memory of our REDSKINS
HAIL TO THE REDSKINS.
Means a lot after decades of fandom. Favorite Redskin era: Any game Joe Gibbs coached, and full credit to Beathard and the great players they signed on. Sometimes really good things do come to an end. Stay, and kneel to the woke mob all you want. This isn't how it should end. Take care, folks, it's been fun. Bye. |

I'm not getting political or anything like that....but when the sponsors pull, it's like monopoly...when you start mortgaging your properties to pay rent to others....the game is just about over. At this point I dont think ds had much of a choice. If he didnt change, who knows....the franchise may well have dissolved, or moved cities. I think he is changing the name to save the team. I hope that other teams fans have a little respect in this situation, as I'm sure they have memories as well about times in their franchises history that are dear to them. The divisional rivalries were always a sight to see....like I said...win or lose, it was always something we could all get together on and share time and moments. Not that we cant anymore...its just..........different |

He fought for the team, name and fans for two decades, all the way to the US Supreme Court. He promised us the team would never change and held onto that as long as he could. When scumbags at Nike financial blackmail him, the company on the stadium threatens him and the MAYOR OF D.C. also puts an ultimatum on having a home to play in...what owner could survive that? The co-owners that want to bail on him...they certainly were not offended by the team name when it was putting millions of dollars into their bank account...just suddenly when it's trendy. They're going for their 15 minutes of fame. |

New memory hopefully...when the stadium breaks out into HAIL TO THE REDSKINS on their own after Haskins hits McLaurin for the year's first TD.

Re: In memory of our REDSKINS
I'll have to disagree to me a lot of this is on Dan. In business attitude matters. If you are good at what you do and an asshole people will tolerate it to an extent but they would rather have someone who might have a bit less talent but brings a quality workplace environment. Dan does none of those. He drove away the casual fans through myriad of decisions, suing old ladies, suing the City Paper, shoddy product and overall piss poor attitude. When asked about a name change we all know how he reacted in 2013. Instead of being a business man about it and identifying support for the name and the positives it brings. Eventually he does create the Original American's Foundation but they do such a shit job of marketing it even with the teams media.
He is a bad business partner. NFL owners that used to defend the name because the Redskins were a quality product and thus improved their bottom line began to not support the name. The minority owners tried to sell their shares but they couldn't find someone to take shares of one of the most valuable franchises in the world. They did what they needed to to get out of a toxic environment and I cannot blame them for this. Dan has repeatedly been given gifts in regards to the name polls showing that Native American's don't find it offensive, that the word that resonates with the logo is "proud" by Native Americans and a Supreme Court decision that says bans on trademarks with offensive language are illegal. Each one of those incidents he handled like an ass hat in the team response. I do think change was inevitable it is hard to have a team maintained with a word that is defined as a slur, but if he was a good business owner and partner the franchise name would still have had support. |
Re: In memory of our REDSKINS
I never asserted he's been a good or even effective owner...plenty of mistakes and bad decisions over the years, but on defending the team name, history and legacy, he's been solid there.
|
Re: In memory of our REDSKINS
Coming out and saying we're never going to change the name and you can put that in all caps was a big mistake by Snyder. When you draw a line in the sand and make it clear that something isn't up for debate or a rational discussion, don't be surprised when the other side comes back with an equally hard headed response.

Agreed. He was already disliked by many and to be so obnoxious about it just threw fuel on the fire. A better approach would have been to keep his cool and have some scripted response stressing that nobody is trying to offend anybody, yatta, yatta. But that is not Danny. |

True dat. I must say, Snyder fascinates me. I perpetually wonder how long it will take him to fully ascend the learning curve. He shows signs of "getting it" but then regresses back to his obstinate self. That he is not a nice person goes without saying. But there is more to it than that. Honestly, and this is only my theory, I think winning is secondary to him. Oh sure, he would love to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. But first and foremost is the intoxication he experiences by making big splashes and headlines. I think that is what turns him on. I would not doubt he is in heaven right now with all the attention the org is getting. |

My problem with the last paragraph is that I don't think DS's business ownership had as much to do with the team name still having support as winning would have. If the team had two decades of winning vs two decades of losing under his ownership that might have fostered some goodwill that gave him and the team name the benefit of the doubt. |

I also want to say thank you Matty and everyone here for keeping me sane through the years, in a sense I grew up a lot with the Warpath.. And for one final time (can't believe I'm writing this) HAIL TO THE REDSKINS
Aside from the guys who played for Both the Skins and Giants (Pierce, Armstead, Leonard Marshall) it is without a doubt, Jim Lachey. Met him at football camp in the Summer of 91. Just a really nice guy. Me and another camper happened to cross paths with him after lunch. He walked and talked with us for a good 1/2 hour. Asked him about working out (I was 15, summer before 10th grade) hadn't REALLY started lifting yet. Was the first time I heard, "Arms are for show, legs are for dough." We talked about different guys in the NFL. Said the key to LT was to get a body on him and wear him down. Other kid I was with asked him about Reggie White and he said White is on other side, he dealt with Clyde Simmons. |
