Cornelius Lucas has a solid 72.6 PFF grade. Wes Schweitzer a 64.1. Chase Roullier 70.1 Brandon Scherff 77.7 Morgan Moses 78.0 Morgan Moses has stepped up this year. When he moved to LT and Sharpe came in, we saw a big drop off in play on that right side. O line coach gets a ton of credit from me and makes we wonder if Callahan was too immune for criticism around here. I think Jay made a mistake giving Callahan majority say in how the run game would be designed and called.
Thanks for posting the oline info...this matches what I’m seeing. I think the oline has been good, but I think it could be much better. My quick plan what I would do this offseason: Sign a TE that can block, it would immensely help the oline as a whole. Resign Roullier. Moses playing well and under contract. Let Schreff test the market with the plan of Schweitzer moving to the right, from what Cooley says is his more natural side. I’d develop Charles and plan him to play on the left side. I’d look to spend the Schreff the money on Left Tackle, there are several good ones available, mainly the guy in Green Bay...maybe the Carolina LT could be available. If this wouldn’t work, then go into next season with a plan to use Charles/Lucus at LT. If we could sign one, slide Charles in at left guard and Lucus as the swing tackle. I think Christian is depth. Wes Martin looks like another wasted oline pick. |
Re: Lions PG
Offense - I think we are starting to get a good look at what Scott Turner's offensive scheme is. QB makes quick read and throws to the safest option. This is usually a back out of the backfield (1st read by design), a back as a check down (2nd or 3rd read) or a receiver/te underneath.
Very few designed throws outside the numbers. Lions up 24-3 in the 3rd quarter allowed our underneath offense to click. Alex Smith was something like 11 consecutive catches and like 25/30. Then with the game close, we started to struggle with the underneath/middle of the field stuff as the Lions adjusted their D. Play action? Have we seen a single legit PA long ball this year? ------------------ Cornelius Lucas has a solid 72.6 PFF grade. Wes Schweitzer a 64.1. I'd resign him to an extension before Scherff (if we could only keep 1). Way harder to find good tackles. |

Kendall Fuller was targeted 5 times yesterday

We need to draft a young, ATHLETIC, MLB in the 1st few rounds.
Our LB play is nowhere close to acceptable, and MLB has been beyond the worst. We need a young middle anchor. |

Those were the 2 big legit all pros worth top dollar. I ma very curious to see what type of cuts have to be made due to the shrinking cap next year. Crazy thought .. option 1: Moses (LT), Martin or FA (LG), Roullier (C), Schweitzer (RG), Scherff (RT) depth - christain, martin, 2nd to 4th round IOL draftee option 2: top 5 draft pick (LT), Schweitzer (LG), Roullier (C), Scherff (RG), Moses (RT) ---------------------------- IM still torn on Scherff. My biggest worry is his durability, I fear once we sign him to a massive 5 year deal his knees will blow out or some linger back injury. But do we really want to create a new hole when we are trying to patch 2 spots already on the O line? perfect world .. scherff comes back down to reality and signs a 10-12M per type deal. |

It’s coaching .. it’s a mind set .. culture if you will ..at this moment we are among the worst in all of pro sports .. yea the jets maybe bad but they would beat us because we would help them beat us .. that’s the deal .WE BEAT OURSELVES!! .. maybe we need to quit drafting the best player available and actually trade down for best player for what the team needs ( which is a lot) .. we had a pretty good D line before draft last year .. what we needed was Middle Linebacker and DB .. we could have gotten at least 2 huge upgrade starters with that pick instead of a pass rusher that is really not making a huge difference ..this team does way better with the mid round picks .I’m not saying Young is not good on the right team he would be lights out however this is not looking like a great fit ..

Young is a damn good player but is he really a legit difference maker? We have to give him 2 full seasons to judge... Right now he doesn't look any better than Sweat did last yr and we drafted him in the 20's... |

Re: Lions PG
I feel bad for Chase. If any of the QBs that were drafted after him pan out, a good percentage of the fan base will hold that against him.
Chase really hopes we get a QB in the top 5 next year. There are a lot of 1 to 3 win teams out there. Any win can move your pick back several spots. Our game this weekend is a huge game in the draft bowl. |
Re: Lions PG
Morgan Moses and Brandon Scherff were dominant yesterday.
Scherff had an 89.0 overall grade and allowed 0 pressures and Moses (when he was lined up as RT) finished with an 86.2 overall grade and allowed 2 pressures. |

Honestly Id have to see more of him. Hes an undrafted rookie who makes a handful of catches a game. 2 fumbles last week. Appears his 6 catches for 59 yards yesterday was his best outing by far. On a complete roster, hopefully next year, hes a WR4 or WR5 for us .. who appears to not play special teams. He can battle it out with Steve Sims for the last roster spot next year .. if either of them even make the roster next year. im just going by what little we have seen and downplaying him bc every year we add an undrafted WR rookie who brings the same production .. steve sims in 2019, wright in 2020 ... in 2021 I imagine it will be a new name. Just keep plugging undrafted guys in each year, turning them out and hoping to hit on one. So far Steve Sims and Wright havent flashed. Maybe the 2021 UDFA wr will be a diamond in the rough. I like the process, just havent hit yet. |

Appears Curl-Apke may be the duo for a few weeks. And Im fine with that (because im fine with losing, Im a good loser). I really do think this is the best 2-7 team in the history of the NFL. But this season he looks completely lost. I still don't understand how you coach LBs to key QB eyes in zone coverage. Only a few elite are good at it. The others end up being moved easily out of their zone and/or not seeing the wide opened guy a few yards from them... Bostic is killing me with this every week. THERE'S A GUY IN YOUR ZONE, COVER HIM ! STOP TRYING TO DO SOMETHING YOU'RE NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO DO ! YOU ARE NOT PICKING THAT BALL UNLESS IT'S THROWN DIRECTLY INTO YOUR HANDS WRAPPED IN DOUBLE-FACE TAPE ! COVER. GUYS. IN. YOUR. ZONE. |

Maybe it's because English not being my native language some of the grammar twists didn't bother me that much (I did pick quite a lot of "have" instead of "has" and so on though)... but I quite enjoyed Talib in the booth. It was kind of an acquired taste, felt strange at the beginning, but as the game moved on I thought he brought a nice combination of on point football knowledge/analysis and raw genuine excitement. IE when we was all pumped about seeing "a BALL game" when we tied. I get the "hood" vibe isn't for everybody but combined with his NFL experience I thought it was quite refreshing and fun. |
Re: Lions PG
Bostic is always lost in space, dude just can't cover. He's the new Perry Riley.

Re: Lions PG
Saahdiq Charles to season ending IR for surgery on his knee for a dislocated knee cap (that must have been a serious dislocation to require surgery).
Kyle Allen to season ending IR for surgery on his ankle. ----------------------- Chase Roullier is a FA next year ... I wasnt a huge Roullier believer thinking we could find equivalent play elsewhere if needed but now I want him signed. ----------------- Bostic is a limited player, we knew that going into this season, he shouldnt be asked to cover bc he cant cover. Hes a north south plug the run hole player. We probably need more well rounded LBs bc you cant hide Bostic from coverage every snap, just impossible. |
