Since you bring up being off the rocker and on the street, I want to broach the school shooting in Michigan. Hearing that the school had a meeting with parents about a drawing of a gun and bleeding figures that says "the thoughts won't stop, help me. My life is useless. Blood everywhere." and they kept him in school is awful. This is a significant problem that we don't have more school psychologists and social workers, that schools do not have the authority to remove this student directly at the time of an incident like this (this is not exclusive to that school district, most schools just are not given that autonomy by state governments and local jurisdictions). I am actually glad they are charging the parents I hope they have evidence to support the charges but regardless this might be a turning point akin to when we started charging parents for serving teenagers in the basement.
I’m glad they charged the parents too..in fact I wish more parents would be charged when kids in their care, under the age of 17 commit gun crimes.

Parents should be held accountable

The real interesting thing is that they apparently questioned Billy Joel and an acquaintance about their involvement in it. He confused the cops with his explanation providing random events on the origins of the fire.

He was questioned at the location of the fire where he tried to fight it.
Not saying this is wrong, because I've never heard this perspective before. Genuine question, how would unelected congressional staff acquire more power from term limits?

In general, there are definitely way too many unelected people with way too much power on this country. So I wouldn't doubt above could be true to an extent. But would it be worse than getting life long teet suckers like McConnell, Pelosi, Schumer, etc., elected forever?
The way it was explained to me (this is the boiled down version) explanation is that Senators and Congressmen already rely on professional Congressional staff to navigate the Byzantian legislative rules and processes. Experienced members of Congress understand these rules and processes and are not dependent (or as dependent) on staff as are the newer members.

My friend painted a bleak picture of how powerful the staff currently is and how much worse it could be.

Not saying they would be kicked out of government service just limited in the time on Capital Hill.

Pick a side and read about the Congressional Budget Office's score of the Build Back Better Bill. Then read the other side. No wonder why we are so divided.

Watching a conservative show, shockingly I know, and even less shockingly, they talk about how expensive it will be and now we're finally all screwed.

Then I Google'd it, and the CNN's/etcs., tell me how it's all amazing and is basically free, and it's only evil republicans lying about it.

Neither are true.

Divide and conquer. Evil geniuses (for themselves). Politics now controls the MSM on both sides, and it's fucking terrible for our country.

That's my politics for the weekend.

Fuck Dallas!!

Have to sell their product and lately they do that by building rage in their audiences. This was a good example of it. Build Back Better is basically dead as Manchin won't support it yet both sides of the media keep beating the dead horse.

The origins and history of toilet paper I always found interesting.

Mid to late 1800s people were still using whatever they could find. Magazines, corn cobs, pages out of books, their fucking hand. People must have stunk. The Sears catalogues were a big thing back then. No one talked about it bc it was deemed embarrassing and socially taboo.

Scott brothers came along and started making and marketing toilet paper.

But no one would buy it. Everyone was too embarrassed to be seen buying toilet paper and thus admitting they poop. It just sat on the shelves.

Hotels started to carry the Scotts toilet paper and it became a big hit. People would go to hotels to use the bathrooms and the toilet paper.

Eventually we went from out houses to indoor plumbing and you couldnt flush corn cobs and books down the pipes.

Charmin came along early 1900s and started marketing soft toilet paper.

Scotts and Charmin toilet paper.

American success stories.

I've made a few comments in the threads, but haven't actually said anything actually political yet.

The only way to really completely shut down talking about it is to not click on the threads when there is a new post. To date, I simply cannot get myself to do that.

Signals and political threads are my kryptonite (and pasta/chips).

How I typically leave the political thread at night:

How I am when I wake up the next morning:

Beginning next Saturday I'll be on the same timezone as most of y'all. End of an era. Might create a whole new account for myself after the name change is revealed.

Nobody needs to visit “south of the border” lol. Have all of us East Coasters done it? Yes. When we got there was it worth it? No. Did we go back a second time? Hell no. It is the worlds biggest interstate tourist trap.

South of the border is a spot where I’d buy firecrackers to use on the beach back in the day.

A weird memory I’ll always had of South of the Border: as a kid I remember stopping there and u had to pay to use the bathroom. They had coin slots locks on stalls, paid 10 cents to pee.

Putting this one in the cordial thread because from what I've seen of the regulars here I think we probably do all agree with this article (Unlike other places I used to post). But a bit depressing on where some have gone in what they desire to happen.
