Assuming Settle wanted to stay. But he has the opportunity to be a starter in Buffalo, I'm sure he wanted to go there. I don't understand why is so hard for people to understand that you can't keep everyone.
You also can't keep everyone on the D-line, Payne could be the odd man out. So you draft both for depth and for replacement. I wanted Dean, but it is not like they drafted a fucking kicker in the 2nd round.
Who wants to keep everyone? What we are saying is if this is Paynes replacement just keep Settle. Settle would have been the starter here and we could have drafted elsewhere. You are saying Settle wanted to leave to start elsewhere and also Payne could be out so draft his replacement. We had his replacement. |
Re: The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread
Settle wanted starter playing time, he knew he was 3rd guy here in Washington.
If Washington traded Payne (which they should have) Settle would have replaced him. |

Poor roster management... yet again.

We had his replacement.
Settle wanted to leave this year, to be a starter, Payne could be gone at the end of this upcoming season. You draft Mathis to fill he depth this year and potential starter in 2023, all at a rookie contract. Again, I wanted to Nakobe Dean, I'm not saying this is the best pick, but I don't think it is the worst. I mean this is not Belichick picking a 3rd round guard at the bottom of the 1st round bad. |

That was a luxury pick for a team that can't afford it. Now if Payne gets traded and we get an extra pick, I'd probably like it more because he would be a starter at that point. But as of now he's a backup rotational piece. That's not good enough at 47 for a 7 win team. |

Its where we picked though. It is the thought that we could have dealt Payne for picks, made Settle a starter, and used the 2nd round pick elsewhere. We would be better off. It is like someone said, they seem to be making it up as they go along. |

Ill add though that on top of the Payne for picks aspect, Settle could have been the starter and that second round pick is freed up. I can’t really make too much sense of that whole scenario- even if we keep Payne - than yeah this guy could be talented as hell but 47 for a part time player is meh. |

"Ron Rivera wants to build up lines/keep strong; they rotate their DT's quite a bit so Mathis wouldn't just be a "backup." Doesn't mean they have to trade Payne. Need a quality rotation. But if they keep Payne and he leaves after '22? You have two dudes.
I'm a big Brisker fan and I know they liked him. So to pass on him and take Mathis says something. As always, time will tell.." - Keim |

Re: The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread
They should trade up in the 3rd and snag Dean.
|
Re: The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread
At this point, I’m hoping not to hear our 3rd round pick tell the media he and his agent expected him to be picked in the 5th or 6th round. I don’t know whose asking that question, or advising the players to disclose that.

You know things are bad when teams are willing to roll with Drew Lock, Sam Darnold, and Mariota. :laughing- |
Re: The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread
Damn, and here I was wanting Dean in the 2nd round:
@PFF_AustinGayle Per source, Georgia LB Nakobe Dean declined surgery on his shoulder, and it's now a major concern/medical red flag. |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Studs is a bit of a reach of word. We have a solid starter who recently has had fumbling issues. A great 3rd down back who can't run between the tackles And Jarrett Patterson who is ok I guess. Our short yardage game last year fell off with Barber gone which is why I assume they drafted Robinson |
Re: The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread
What a shit draft.
They guy from Alabama they don’t draft has the potential to be the next Randy Moss. The rest are JAGs. |

And while I’m at it, can you Dyami Brown fans jump off a cliff?
He won’t break 300 yards this season. I don’t get why he is always getting mentioned as a weapon. |

Re: The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread
Ok so for the first 3 picks:
Was I surprised that Dotson was the pick? Yeah, I would have preferred Olave or Hamilton but a running mate for Terry was needed, badly. Great hands and route running. Seen him compared to DeSean and Santana Moss, don't think he is as fast as DeSean though. 2. Mathis, this pick I'm not a fan of, as I would have taken Brisker at that pick. I know we lost Settle and Matty I. I don't dislike the position I just think he could have been had in round 3 or 4 honestly, but better a round too early than 1 pick too late. 3. Robinson, we need a short yardage back, like I said before Gibson has a fumbling issue and McKissik can't run between the tackles, they're good at what they do, but Robinson should give us what Peyton Barber did when he was here. I expect us to address S, LB, and CB now, and don't forget Mathieu is still out there, not that I think we sign him but I am holding out hope |
Re: The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread
Concerned about the middle of our D -- MLB and S are areas of real need. I rather view the picks we've made so far as nice to haves more than anything else. Sure, a great WR will help, but I would be interested to see if a healthy Curtis Samuel and 2nd year Dyami Brown is enough to supplement McLaurin when combined with a QB that can push the ball down the field -- which we simply didn't have last year. Sure, a good between the tackles RB is nice to have, although we have Gibson, JDM, and Patterson (who the coaches said could be a good short yardage back). And sure, after losing Matty I and Settle, getting another rotation piece on the DL is helpful.
But I don't see these needs as being as acute as the need for FS and MLB help where our current options are clearly holding us back. Now maybe this draft reflects a mentality of the BPA and not focusing on need. But I don't think so -- as much as I am interested to see Dotson's potential, do folks really think he was the BPA at 14 (the pick we had) or 16 (the pick we made)? This draft feels a little aimless to me. Obviously, until guys suit up and start playing, no one really knows whether we've done well or not. But unless the folks we've drafted so far are lights out in their respective positions, I will wonder whether trying to hit on FS and MLB would have done more to help us contend than what we've done. |
Re: The 2022 Washington Commanders draft thread
Really like the RB pick at the end. Robinson is a thumper!
I don’t understand how we aren’t trading down with the Mathis pick. That might have been the worst pick of the second round. Massive reach. |
