probably an 18-24month type injury, so sometime next year.

So after Wentz is released we will $45.5 million in cap space plus whatever the cap goes up to next year? I would resign Payne, Sweat, Curl, Wise, Gibson, maybe Holcomb if there is enough $$. Might need to trade cut Logan Thomas and Roullier.

I know one thing, don’t play the franchise tag with Payne at 18.1 million for 1 year.

Let him leave if no long term contract?

No way, I'd definitely franchise tag him over that. Re-sign him or FT him are the only 2 options imo.

The 1st year franchise tag is a good tool for teams. If you don't get a contract done even after that year, then let X player walk.

I think they will get something done. Ron knows he needs 94

Due to his injury Mathis hasn't had the opportunity to prove that he is a keeper, much less that he can step in and fill 94's big shoes. We need Payne for at least one more year, so if he can't be re-signed then he must be franchised - but just once.

Current projections by 538 for playoffs. Washington 73% after week 14.
https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2022-nfl-predictions/

You can alter the upcoming game sto see how probability changes. No need to restate the obvious but this week is huge. With a win Commanders probability of playoffs jumps to 90% a loss drops them down to 35%. Win 2 of next 3 and it is 98%.

If I lived where I got all the Commanders games on Fox every week, I wouldn't like it.

But this will save me around 50 bucks, so I'll take it.

SC is pretty close to NFL purgatory. Being forced to watch Atlanta or Carolina yeesh.

Yeah, definitely not ideal.

Good thing Dog and Duck is walking distance from my apartment, and they always have our games on at one of the bar TVs. That's been my weekend outing for most of the season.

I'm the opposite, I should be asleep by 9 every night because I have to get up for work at 4 am every day, and yet somehow I'm still going to bed at 11-12.

70% chance of making playoffs going in to the last week. The way the year started I think most of us would be happy with that.

Wes Schweitzer is in line to be the Commanders' starting center with Tyler Larsen out, according to Ron Rivera. The versatile Schweitzer is getting the nod there over Nick Martin, who is a natural center

Only because our guys have been so dinged up. I suspect that they feel the need to have someone -- anyone -- to plug in. It seems like everyone, with the possible exception of Leno -- has missed some time this year.

What ever happened with Erik Flowers? I don't recall him signing anywhere. So strange that he's fallen off the map (although perhaps I am wrong about that).

Nice, having swiss army knives on O line is a must nowadays.

With Martin i honestly think wed lose the remaining games. IOL has been huge for our run game.

Flowers -- odd he hasnt signed anywhere. Maybe hes one of those players that doesnt love football? Agent is Drew Rosenhaus so you know hed be burning the phone lines to get him on a roster if thats what Ereck wanted. I always saw him as an average starter level player, better in run vs pass. Def not a 10M per year player imo.

Played college ball in Miami .. played a year or so in Miami ... maybe he just wants to soak in the Miami sun and live the good life.

Re: COMMANDERS BYE WEEK THREAD

Definitely strange about Flowers, the guy is only 28 and we know he can play. Maybe he's too stubborn when it comes to $$ or he simply is ok with sitting out a year, who knows.

Whatever Flowers thought he was due in FA he won't be getting if he tried to land with a team next year. Being out of the league for a year will surely hurt his value -- probably more than if he had signed for a bit less than he wanted earlier this year. Seems a waste. We could certainly have used him this year.

Definitely a red flag they'd rather play a guard at center over him. Think he's just a body at this point.

They still have Kittle and McCaffrey not to mention the best defense in the NFL, they could put out Sammy Baugh's corpse at qb and they would still be a tough game.

Re: COMMANDERS BYE WEEK THREAD

The 49ers are a better team than us. Flat out. We can beat them. But to me it's like 70/30 odds in their favor. If they had Jimmy G, it would be a little lower than that.

If it was home game, I think it could be closer to 50/50.

We can beat anyone if we can hold them below 17 points. Not really a winning formula but its our formula. Great D and ball control. No room for error.

We can hold the 9ers to 17 or less .. as long as their D doesnt get a pick 6 or multi turnovers.

My mom is a 49ers fan and one of my best friends is a 49ers fan. Beating them would be sweet. If we lose, I'll hide my phone from myself for a day or 2.
