Re: Rumors circulating about Jeff Bezos buying the team
Something else probably in the mix assuming the sale is going to happen, as petty as Snyder is, the last thing he would want is the team to actually be really good the year he departs, so there is no way he's bringing in a Lamar/Rodgers/Carr type guy where there would be a chance the team could be really successful right after his departure.
It looks to me like DS just wants the money, to get out, and to live the good life. As for Carr, I doubt that his play could elevate this team. |
Re: Rumors circulating about Jeff Bezos buying the team
If the sale is completed in March, that should be beneficial to the fans (us) as well as the new owner. Getting new leadership in place, managing Free Agency and the Draft, etc. That's just what I've been hoping would happen.
If the sale goes through sooner, then the new owner will look at it differently. If he's keeping Ron then he might bless some big money transactions. If he's not keeping Ron, or if he's in a wait and see mode with Ron, then he might still want him to avoid big long term commitments until he gets his coach / front office that he wants for the long term.
As glorious as it is to get Dan Snyder out of the building, any way I look at it I think the sale puts some limitations on what the team will do this year. It's a price we're all willing to pay. I'm willing to ride with what we've got for one more year if it means no more Dan for the rest of my life.
basically one step back then 10,000 steps forward |

I'm more worried about maintaining our assets, than buying expensive new ones. But it'd be nice to have an owner that gives you options, either way. Financially managing our D-Line will be challenging. That's why I am so hopeful that Sam Howell turns out to be the answer at QB ... that would delay our having to fork out a crap ton of cash for QB and spread it around other places. |
Re: Rumors circulating about Jeff Bezos buying the team
I think the cap is not the constraint this offseason. It's going to be Dan Snyder being a cheap ass. The points about the cap are valid but somebody still has to be OK with spending the cash.
What I mean is, when you sign somebody to a deal, NFL rules say you have to take all the guaranteed money and sock it away in an escrow account. So if Lamar Jackson gets $150M guaranteed over 5 years, even if some of that $150M isn't payable until three years from now, the team signing him has to actually take $150M in cash and put it in an escrow account. After all the only way to actually guarantee he gets his money is to take it and set it aside. So ask yourself whether anybody about to sell a franchise would want to set aside big cash for a long term deal, for a player he won't own next year. Now ask yourself if Dan Snyder would. In that light, look for Payne to be franchised, not signed long term. Look for Sweat to play out the option year, not signed long term. Look for Ron to be told to avoid the big money QB market. And look for all of our free agency moves to be of the shorter term, bargain bin variety.
I was looking forward to reading your response to this question. I ain't disappointed ! I had no clue about the bolded part. I've been saying from the start this offseason was going to be quiet on the FA/trade front (unless the sale was to go through uber quickly), and I wish it that way... but this would impact the team more than I thought: if we end up letting Daron Payne go because of it it's kinda of a bummer (of course, as a price to pay to get rid of Snyder, it's a small one). |

He might be OK with franchising Payne, which is only a one year deal. It's big money for one year but it's not $100M. I think that's what Ron and Martin will want to do anyway. But it's entirely possible Dan cheaps out even on that. |

Would be a nice (shitty) parting gift. |
Re: Rumors circulating about Jeff Bezos buying the team
I concur with everyone. Ill go 0-17 next year and he can cheap out on whomever he would like as long as he is gone forever. Still cannot believe this is the conversation. A very little while ago I just assumed he was around for as long as I was.

We're like a dog that finally catches its tail after chasing it for 15 years. Now that we got it we don't know what to do with it. I'm with Schneed - Snyder selling is the cherry on top of this offseason sundae. I'll take another noncompetitive season if it means he's out. |

I would not give Payne a huge deal. He's only been a major beast this past year. You don't pay for 1 good year out of 5. You either let him walk or your FT and see if he can repeat it. |

Yeah, until that purchasing contract is actually signed and official, I ain't getting too excited. Even if a sale is announced, I don't trust Snyder, until that shit is 100% officially completed. |
Re: Rumors circulating about Jeff Bezos buying the team
Apparently this guy Blitzer is a hands off kind of owner and doesn't meddle as he is the owner of other sports teams. This is the guy that hopefully will get the team. He is an experienced sports owner just like Jack Kent Cooke was. He knows what it takes to build a team.

Sam Howell should...just kidding. I'd be more than fine with him. I'm like a man lost in the desert, I'll take any drink you have! Just hand me the canteen please!! Just sell the team Danny Boy. It will be the highlight of your ownership. |

Except he hasn't had only 1 good year - this just happens to be great year on top of his previous good years. |

His other years were good, but not "20 million a year" good. Pay him or sign/trade him, I don't care. Just would like to get more for him than a 3rd round comp pick. |
Re: Rumors circulating about Jeff Bezos buying the team
I just have anxiety in general, but with all the speculation that the league wants to get this sale done in time for the new league year, I kind of worry that every day that goes by and there isn't an announcement, that they are running out of time.
I'm a layman and obviously know nothing about the business side of something like this, but would they keep entertaining the sale after the new league year starts? Certainly the NFL wouldn't want to see a team sold mid-season, would they have to shelve it again until next off-season? I am still of the opinion that Dan is definitely on his way out, but I guess it just comes down to timing, now. |

Maybe announced, but settled and up and running by March 15th ? I'm sure the NFL wouldn't love it, but wouldn't it be possible for the sale to happen even during the regular season, sale contract signed and all, but to be declared effective a day after the SB ? |

I could see it working as long as it happens early enough in the new year that the new Owner(s) could have time to make coaching changes, FO Decisions, etc, with a little bit of time to prepare before doing their first draft. But maybe the new ownership keeps everyone as they are for this year, if something gets done that early. I |
Re: Rumors circulating about Jeff Bezos buying the team
I think this will be done by the end of March at the latest, and I also think that there won't be any changes to the coaching staff before the start of the season - that aren't initiated by Ron. All bets are off once the season begins and the new owner(s) see the product on the field.
For players (free agency / trades) there could still be significant moves. I look at the Broncos for example. The trade for Russell Wilson was made in March and they signed a number of free agents March - May, but the new ownership wasn't settled until I think June. I could be wrong, but I can see this being a somewhat normal offseason as far as transactions go. |

Re: Rumors circulating about Jeff Bezos buying the team
Bezos is a very strong leader and has always hired people who are strong where he's weak. Snyder never was a leader at all, and certainly never hired with that philosophy.
Bezos turning into Snyder is not a concern even remotely, Bezos will be excellent. |
Re: Rumors circulating about Jeff Bezos buying the team
What if the new owner is worse isn’t even a discussion worth having. We already know Snyder is a disaster so at this point give us anybody but him.

Daniel Snyder thwarts Amazon’s Jeff Bezos from bidding for Commanders
https://sports.yahoo.com/daniel-snyder-thwarts-amazon-jeff-035702220.html Dan must hate himself. If he was ever an actual fan of this team you would think that after 20+ years of running it into the ground, he would find some way to put it into capable hands. He's such a small and petty person.... |

Dan is running out of time as an NFL. If he decides to keep the team, he will force the NFL to kick him out.
Hopefully this ends soon. |
