He's still the kind of talent where, if you believe a recovery will happen, he could be worth a 1 plus to you. There will also be teams that wouldn't touch him because of the unknown with the knee.

But it just takes one out of 31 teams and so they'll surely take calls.

I think trading him might be the right move if you can get the right deal.
I agree, I'd trade him for a 1st or 2nd right now.. We can find a solid Edge rusher , lets be real the Eagles and Bengals win every yr with average DE'S
I'll just go ahead and mark Chase Young down as being our franchise tag player in 2024.

But yeah, definitely should look at drafting an edge rusher, even if late in the draft just in case.

Hopefully this is good news for extending Sweat. Maybe they made their choice that Sweat is the better of the two. Otherwise, we are losing 1 of them next year. Can't franchise tag both of them. Also, would be pretty crazy to sign both of them to huge deals after this season.

Gotta say, this is very surprising.
Per Keim, the coaches love Montez Sweat.

Also, the more I think about it, the more I'm not surprised at this move. When Ron took over the team, his 2020 draft was based on whatever information/scouting the previous regime had done. A new coach's first draft is really not theirs, so I can see why there isn't much loyalty.

I wouldn't mind if they trade him tomorrow. It'd be nice to get more picks as always. Especially given how deep this draft is at certain positions.

Trading Chase is best case scenario now imo (assuming a reasonably fair offer). But it takes 2 to tango. Gonna be an interesting next 30ish hours.

I'd take a conditional 2nd with it becoming a 1st based on performance. Bottom line is get anything you can if he's just not your guy for the future.

This would be ideal..

Don't forget, the Dline played well without Young when he was injured. Allen and Payne can make many DEs look good.

Yeah I think this is central to their reasoning. Wonder if we will see JSW get a modest extension this offseason.

Yeah, I'd be 100% OK w/ this too.

Re: You picking up Chase Young 5th Year Option?

I wanted to see him succeed here and become a perennial pro bowler. I can't help feeling now, especially the timing, they want him gone. I doubt we'll see a high 1st, but maybe a conditional 2nd (possibility of it being a 1st) and a 3rd would be very acceptable under the circumstances. And if someone offers a 1st this year I'd bite their hand off.

Best case CY goes out and kills it this year and leaves us no choice but to figure out how to pay him.

No team will do that on the last year of a contract (Won't even trade a 2d for that matter).

They would effectively have him for three years, if they pick up the option after trade, assuming the trade happens before the deadline, and franchise tag after that

Re: You picking up Chase Young 5th Year Option?

Just wondering here...if they did pick up the option on him, would they have owed him a considerable amount of money right now? If so, they may not have it due to the sale and Snyder not footing the bill on anything right now. I'm probably wrong on this, but just a thought

Chief X_Phackter 04-26-2023 05:46 PM

Re: You picking up Chase Young 5th Year Option?

It's hard to imagine getting much in a trade for CY. The reasons they aren't picking up the option are the same reasons no one is going to give up much to acquire him. They'll probably draft a DE in the first three rounds, get an extension done with Sweat, and let Chase walk after the season. There is almost no way to keep them both, and the evidence seems to point to them being more apt to keeping Sweat - if they are going to choose between the two.

skinsfaninok 04-26-2023 08:16 PM

Re: You picking up Chase Young 5th Year Option?

Unfortuently CY wasn't the superstar most labeled him as.. He really only has 1 pass rush move and its his speed.. He's a good player but not worth huge $$

That Guy 04-26-2023 11:22 PM

Re: You picking up Chase Young 5th Year Option?

I mean, I still wouldn't write off him playing here next year. The difference between the option and a tag is under $2mill. So if they don't get a good offer, at least they don't have to fire sale the guy. He's still good enough to start here and play well.

Re: You picking up Chase Young 5th Year Option?

We have the luxury of having options with Chase right now. Everything's on the table - let's see what happens.

If this is the end of his run in DC I'm cool with it, best case scenario he balls out next year and we potentially don't have enough room to pay him and Montez (and obv. Montez is the steady reliable choice to get paid too) so he walks anyways. Let's get something for him if we can.

Chico23231 04-27-2023 08:15 AM

Re: You picking up Chase Young 5th Year Option?

You know what? How about CY shut up, get on the field and finally show why he was taken at no 2 overall.

Everything else is just noise

Chief X_Phackter 04-27-2023 08:46 AM

Re: You picking up Chase Young 5th Year Option?

The best part of the decision to not pick up his option (assuming he isn't traded), is that he is now in a prove it year. He has no choice but to ball out if he wants to get paid. That's good for our defense. I don't know if it will happen, but the stage is set.

That cost the Giants with Jones.

I agree. Not picking up his option was the best move for the team.

Re: You picking up Chase Young 5th Year Option?

Yep, it's not really much different to Payne last year. He proved it, he got paid. CY proves it then we at least get a great year out of him even if he ends up signing elsewhere.

FrenchSkin 04-27-2023 09:56 PM

Re: You picking up Chase Young 5th Year Option?

I got no issue whatsoever with them not picking that 5th year option. As much as I want Chase to be a great player, you don't commit 17M to a DL that has neither been available nor very productive lately.
Especially with so much cap invested in our DL already.

We most probably won't keep both Sweat and Young. In a perfect world they both absolutely ball out this year, we pay one and trade/get a comp pick for the other.

It's a terrible look. Too bad we couldn't have found a trade partner. I'm ready for him to be gone.

Re: You picking up Chase Young 5th Year Option?

It's definitely a statement. If he backs it up by balling out, fine. If not...

Re: You picking up Chase Young 5th Year Option?

I have no issue w/ Chase not going to a ota practice. He isn't required to be there. It's just not that big of a deal. It's not like if he goes he is all of a sudden going to become an elite pass rusher. He is who he is at this point. Solid player but not dominant. But hope he proves me wrong.

For Chase the clock starts on his first play in the regular season. From then on, it's very simple: He will either have top-notch production in 2023 and get paid very well by some team in 2024 or he will become a journeyman NFL player.

If only HINDSIGHT was a payable option on draft night

With that same logic JFK should have skipped the Texas parade and Abe should stayed home from the play and just binged Netflix.

Lol…I know it’s just dag on frustrating. I still strongly believe Dan told Ron he must give Trashkins a chance to start.

I remember only one who kept saying we need to explore and seriously think about taking a QB: skinsfaninok.

oh 100% that is the most damage Haskins did to our franchise, is he gave false hope we had QB1 so we passed on QBs.

No different then Justin Fields, if he doesn't pan out and someone blossoms from this draft class at QB, CHI will be kicking themselves.

Encouraging news. With CY nuff talk, you were taken to be a game changer and showed his rookie year he has the talent.

Don’t talk. Listen to coaching, listen to your guys along that d-line, block out everything else out and go have that year you are capable of having
