Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
I think EB has shown flashes of being a good playcaller - obviously Sam Howell is putting up numbers (in flashes) better than we ever saw from Heinicke or any of the other dozen qb's in the last 5 years.
EB still has to grow too though - he needs to learn the importance of the running game, balance, using the run to setup play action, etc. which might take some time. I'm on board with canning Ron and JDR after the season and letting a new guy pick whether to retain EB or not - I can certainly make the argument it would help Howell stay next year if they retained EB as the playcaller. Bringing in a new playcaller either stunts Howell's development or means bringing in a new qb and starting over which I don't want to do, at least on offense. I want them to shore up the weaknesses (offensive line #1) and focus on the defense after that.
Speak, pastor Mooby Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

He is actively trying to get rid of the ball as of very recently…certainly aware of it and a revamped oline will obviously help. Totally agree with everything you said. A little patience and a lot of help, HC, DC, oline, lb’s, corner. |
Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
Anybody watch USC Washington on Sat? What's the deal w/ Williams? This guy paints his fingernails and ran into the stands and cried in his mommies arms. I don't think I have ever seen that before.
I would take Penix over Williams. There is just something off about Williams. He fumbles too much. Makes a lot of great plays but I don't think he is mentally tough enough for the NFL. |
Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
Howell is a QB who has played in different types of offenses and has done well. I think EB is getting too much credit for Howell’s success. If you got it, you got it and Howell does.

Some out there calling him undraftable, give me a break. |

seriously the amount of pressure they are under is got be incredible; i am sure plenty have cried in the same shoes as his just not as publicly |

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
It's not that the guy cried after a loss. It's that he jumped into the stands and almost laid down in his mom's lap and cried. You may see that in a little league game. Then this guy is painting his nails. Idk about Caleb. Is this guy mentally tough enough to deal w/ being a NFL top NFL starter?

It’s definitely a maturity thing with Williams, which should be a flashing red flag Penix is my guy as well he seems like a better passer. Who knows For this upcoming draft I’m taking one of the top 3 tackles, a Linebacker in the second along with a pass rusher. Looking at Guard and TE as well. Call me crazy, but the RB talent here is way underwhelming. I’m bringing in a free agent RB as well as drafting someone mid-late in draft. |
Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
It's tough to evaluate the RB talent when they aren't often used.

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
You need edge with one of the 1st 2 picks, we have hole there.
|
Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
Right now I'd say the top 3 holes, in order, are LB, OL then edge. Yeah we need all 3, but we have all but nothing at LB and likely an OL rebuild in the offseason.
Plus there are probably going to be 1 or 2 good DE possibilities in FA, but few OL. |
Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
Our 5 bigges holes are Dylan (OL), Dylan (OL), Dylan (OL), Dylan (OL), and Dylan (OL). I hope our new GM spits hot fire for the 2024 OL.

If Alt and Fashanu aren't available when we pick, and Bowers is, I'd draft him. TE isn't normally a super high drafted position, but that dude is a stud.

So is Armani Rogers, I was dying to see him with Howell. Next year. |

NFL players are the biggest prima donnas in all of sports I guarantee 90% are getting weekly manicures and pedicures. Sounds like he would fit right in |

We have a ton of cap space. We will address one or more of our needs through fa. Watching this team now I see more of a need at LB and Oline than edge. |

Like I’m tired of saying we need a LB every year, I’m tired of saying we need a legit Guard on the left side. Gates is gone, you sign Larson at center? |
Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
Paul is doing a decent job and will get better, Mason Brooks looks promising.

I guess since he will be in year five and we basically got the same pick we used on him? Idc where they get who. Depends on who is there in fa and the draft. Better get an edge, a lb, and oline - and a corner. Bsj stinks. |
Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
I would get rid of all these guys including Gates and have over $91 Million in cap space. https://riggosrag.com/posts/5-early-commanders-cut-candidates-2023-midseason-point

Problems with Oline contacts, Leno got restructure and they’re more of a cap hit now to cut him next year. Unless you Post June designate. Before the restructure it was a no brainer as it was like a 4 to 1 free cap to dead cap…no more. He probably stays, but has played fairly well this season. Gates is an easier one to stomach than Wylie…Wylie looks to be here in 2024. Also Wylie’s play has been better as of late. Gates there is zero argument to keep him…none. Nothing irks me more than dead cap. Next year we will still hold 4 mil dead cap of Roullier and over 2 million dead cap to Norwell. If we go on a Oline cutting campaign realistically could have upwards of 15-20 mill in dead cap alone on the Oline. Ron and front office completely fucked up the Oline. |

However it is prudent to keep Leno as we don't know yet whether a good tackle will available, and if it is a rookie, having Leno around as a mentor would be useful |
Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
Crucial offseason. You have to take advantage of a QB on a 5th round contract. Gotta nail this draft and bring a few key free agents.
The best part is Ron won't be making any selections. Even if he is somehow kept, which I doubt, he won't be making the decisions. |

Having Sam excel on this contract is what can set you up for sustained success BUT, like you said, they better nail it in the draft and FA. This is a rare opportunity to build a complete team without breaking the bank on a quarterback. Only way Ron is kept is if they make the playoffs and probably would at least need to show up in the playoff game. Even if they sneak in and get madevto look like first round fodder he is gone. |

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
I really want to go OL in the 1st round but I'd be tempted to use some draft capital to trade up and get Marvin Harrison Jr or Keon Coleman depending on how the board shakes out.
We need that true #1 weapon on offense and as much as I love Terry, he isn't that guy. |

Re: 2024 Early Bird Draft Thread
I'd be fine with picking just about any position in the 1st round at this point with the exception of DT, RB, and QB. Upgrades are needed everywhere...
Just don't get desperate and reach for those positions of particular need. Too many examples of that not working out in the recent past. Just pick the very best player on your board - or find a trade partner to acquire more picks. |

The truth about Terry is a bitter pill to swallow. He's not that A1 Ja'Marr/Jefferson/AJ Brown type and even worse, he's getting up there in age. By the time we're really ready to contend in a few years, he'll be 30 years old in a league where all the top receivers are 30 or younger. He's a great receiver, leader, and tone-setter. But in an offense-driven league, you need at least one dominant offensive weapon and I don't think he's at that level. |

Small sample size. Obviously productivity is likely to decline for a wide receiver after 30. |
