More likely that JA and TM get traded, certainly the former.
current players are more valued in the nba then draft picks; its the reverse in the nfl

our top pick this year has more value then Allen or Terry

you prob get a 2nd for Allen and a 3rd for Terry; both had down years in their nfl careers this season
SF blew it on Trey Lance, and they have still been able to field a high quality team. They got lucky with Purdy, and have competent individuals making personnel decisions though. That makes a difference.

That is also a perfect example though, of the "experts" not having it right. Trey Lance was highly touted, while Brock Purdy was an afterthought.
They also have competent coaches coaching him up. Purdy would still be an afterthought if he was drafted by us or several other teams. Couple that with the competent individuals making personnel decisions to put a team around him and boom. It is why GM is such an important decision for us going forward. He will hire the right coaches and put the right pieces around whoever our quarterback is.

Basically exactly what Mooby said.
not sure how many of you watch NBA but Harris and company started what was called the process in PHL

IT started with a trade of their best player at the time (Holiday); our biggest trade asset here is our draft picks

I wouldn't be shocked if he did something similar here
So you're suggesting they're more likely to trade our picks for draft capital than trading up to #1?

Not sure it would have to be a slash and burn approach though. Even if they don't draft a top QB, it wouldn't need a hoard of picks to rebuild most of this roster. With cap space and the picks we do have, we could rebuild the OL and LB cadre, get a good DE and improve the secondary, plus probably add a good (great?) WR. Right coaching and we'd be competitive next year. They want revenue and the best way to do that is give the fans hope, not effectively tell them "another 2 years folks).

QB above all else.

If a new GM thinks a trade up to grab their guy is necessary then just do it.

That was the whole thinking in Philly, it was almost a marketing campaign; kept telling the fan base to trust THE PROCESS; process became a noun, this unseen entity that the fan base had to be patient for; it hasn't paid off in championships but PHL has been pretty elite for awhile now

The so-called "Process" would stomp any remaining loyalty out of this fan base, I think. It would feel like an extension of the Snyder-era exhaustion.

at this point who is still here is probably staying, the hope is to grow the base

I am not saying the PROCESS is great bad or whatever, i am just showing how harris has done it in the past and generally the past predicts the future

whether you want believe it or not we are in the process right now; if anyone thinks we are going be the ravens next year, be prepared to be disappointed

Big Sixers fan here. The process has had a lot of ups and downs. There were definitely some piss poor draft choices and hires in that organization that stalled “the process”. Overall though, they have become perennial contenders so I trust Harris.

My wish: a good GM and coach hire, and a good draft that gets us our franchise QB.

My warning: for people to realize that a lot of opinions they have are being influence by Ashburn syndrome.

Thank you for the background--maybe I should have directed my post at you, but I appreciate the civil response.

I believe that we are the Commieskins right now ;-) so we're not winning anything next year, but a 2-15 year in 2024 would definitely be deflating. My issue is that "the process" in Year 3 will send me running to the hills!

The ability to correct mistakes and move forwards is a good sign. No way we're going to hit on every player in the draft. But that's not an excuse to be as terrible as we always are.

Also, just having a QB doesn't mean jack shit. Look at the Chiefs record right now and they got the best on the planet.

I am Celtics fan so I have watched it over the years

The NBA is a whole different beast then NFL ; the players in the NBA rule the roost; you get 3 superstars and they want play together they can make a huge impact very quickly

The NFL the best teams are built through the draft and some timely FA pick ups

I generally agree, and if we have the 2nd, and Chicago tries to get some crazy compensation then don't do it. BUT, if they take their 2nd back and next year's first, and the FO is absolutely convinced of the best one, then they should take the shot.

Clev Browns are going to the playoffs and winning games with a QB they picked up off the couch. It won't set us back 3-5 years.

You picked the one example of a team picking up a retired qb off the couch with success to support your theory?

I can name 10 different qb's picked up off the couch who didn't do shit for their teams, probably 8/10 were used by us at some point due to injury.

It's funny that you say that, because this team has continued to ignore the QB position in the draft over and over again.

Also, this is the first time, in the entirety of the Snyder era (except maybe the Gibbs 2.0 years) that we won't have Dan Snyder meddling with QB decisions.

If the GM really wants one of the top 2 QBs in the draft, they should do anything and everything to get it.

I think a lot of us got Ashburned this year including myself. I thought there was no way the defense would be bad enough to have us picking in the top 5 but here we are.

In reality this season has played out perfectly for us. We’re probably looking at the 2nd overall pick in a strong QB draft, we got our answer on Sam (not good enough),and Ron did nothing to save his job.

We are at rock bottom, but Snyder is gone to be closely followed by Rivera, and good times can be ahead.

Re: Happy New Year - Ring in the year with a wish and a warning

This year feels like every other year we massively underperformed our expectations, with one glaring difference. Snyder is gone. Josh Harris is in charge and has a track record of turning bum franchises into good ones.

I watched the Devils vs. Caps last night (aka Harris vs. Leonsis) and it struck me how young and fast they are. Basically they are the Caps of a decade ago but without an Ovi on the roster. That's what we have to look forward to. An owner who knows the best thing he can do is hire the right people, sign the checks and stay out of the way (aka not-tell your young talent evaluator to pick your son's bff qb on draft day). Hopefully this time will be different.
