I don't get how the Eagles always have cap space despite spending a lot each year...

A good URL for free agency signings.

Re: Around the NFL - FA tampering/start
As Andrew Brandt says, first-ballot Business of Football HOF'er:
@AdamSchefter Compensation update: Falcons are giving QB Kirk Cousins a four-year, $180 million deal including $100 million guaranteed, per source. It’s $45 million per average per year. |

They kick a lot of guaranteed money to later years. I do feel that the Iggles are in a bit of desperation mode and going all out in acquiring all of these FAs. |

Because the Hurts and AJ Brown figures haven't caught up with them yet. They are still manageable but in a couple years it will balloon to something they can't manage. https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/philadelphia-eagles Their roster is relatively cheap all things considered. Jason Kelce retiring is going to help them with the cap as well. |

Per: Multiple Sources
Well, not great, but certainly an improvement over last years' signing, Gates, who we knew sucked at the time we signed him (or at least everyone not named Ron did) and Larsen. He is average (which is Ok - can't get stars everywhere). Armstrong signing was good now hopefully we can get Hunter to pair with him. |

Interesting to see where Fields lands now with Atlanta and Pittsburgh (presumably) out of the market. Bears options are reducing

Aside from that, the other winners have been: * Brady with the Pats (2015, 2017, and 2019) - who we know was underpaid in NE. * Wilson with the Seahawks (2014) - he was still in his rookie contract I believe. * When the Iggles won in 2017, Foles was their backup, and Wentz (who took them there) was in his rookie contract. * And the three wins by the Chiefs have been with Mahomes in his rookie contact and with the team friendly 10-year deal he is currently in. |

Aaron Jones released after GB signed Jacobs.... to the Jets now?

I thought the Jags signed Jacobs? (Earlier Report was bad???) |

They don't have any DBs or LBs to speak of (judging by last year) |

Jacobs went to the Packers, that's why they released Jones. |

I suppose so....
Adam Schefter After reaching agreement today with free-agent RB Josh Jacobs, the Packers informed RB Aaron Jones that he is being released, per source. Jones now will be a free agent.
|

Re: Around the NFL - FA tampering/start
RBs are getting paid, good for them.
@MarkMaske Josh Jacobs has lined up a deal to sign with the Packers, source confirms. So the running back deals today include Saquon Barkley to the Eagles, Jacobs to the Packers, D'Andre Swift to the Bears and Tony Pollard to the Titans. Next up will be Aaron Jones. |
Re: Around the NFL - FA tampering/start
Antonio Gibson to NE
|
Re: Around the NFL - FA tampering/start
Saw this on Yahoo! Sports:
"The legal tampering period of NFL free agency begins Monday at noon ET, and we should expect New England Patriots free agent offensive lineman Mike Onwenu to be a coveted player. Onwenu is not only a tremendous player based on his on-field performance over the last four years, he's also a very versatile player with his ability to excel at both tackle and guard. Mike Giardi of the Boston Sports Journal reported Monday that the Washington Commanders, New York Giants, Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens are among the teams believed to be interested in Onwenu." I hope we can get this deal done. Owenu could lock down our RT position for years to come. He's 26 years old. Can play either OG position as well. |

Packers doing non-Packers things:
@RapSheet Another splash for the #Packers: They are expected to sign #Giants S Xavier McKinney, sources say. He gets a 4-year deal worth $68M in a deal done by @DavidMulugheta of @AthletesFirst . |

Kirk and his agent are pimps.

Sam Bradford is another working the system/bank account HOF for sure but good luck to kirk in atl.

We need to adjust for inflation, Tom was in the NFL for 12 years before Kirk. Remember when 20 million a year for a qb was insane? Kirk is now making 45 million a year and the other elite qb's gotta be close. |

Former Panthers LB @frankluvu7 agreed to terms on a 3-year deal with the @commanders for a maximum value of $36 million. The deal was confirmed by agent @blakebaratz at @teamifa. |

Hmmmm......
Albert Breer The Panthers and Giants are in discussions on a trade that would send star pass-rusher Brian Burns to New York, per sources. But the deal's not done, and a new contract would have to be worked out to complete the trade.
|

Don't think he gets much choice if he wants to be paid, Giants going to blowup their cap again. |

CB on the move..
Tom Pelissero Trade! The #Lions are acquiring CB Carlton Davis from the #Bucs, per source.
|
Re: Around the NFL - FA tampering/start
Giants give Burns a 5 year $150m contract. Is it just me , he feels like one of those guys who will slack off after getting paid, or at least wont live up to the contract. I wasn't all that eager for us to sign him to a big deal like this.

Re: Around the NFL - FA tampering/start
A lot of interior linemen going off the board today, and no tackles as of yet - that I'm aware of.

I meant not great in that he has an average ranking among starters (PFF ranks him 14 at center). My point is we can't target the best at every position, so the signing was a good one (heck maybe even great one), as he is most definitely a massive upgrade. |

Hunter is still out there and we still need an edge rusher. Depth isn't too good at OT in free agency though. Smith for 1 year??? |
Re: Around the NFL - FA tampering/start
I would look at Smith. Guess it hinges on a medical. If he looks strong enough to last a year, we could draft a RT with a view to moving them to LT if they look good. Or keeps options open for '25 draft at least.
