Yes I agree and I LOVE our approach, see what we have in our kitchen cabinets with a new chef in town before we go spending…can Coleman turn into our booked Tackle?! Maybe…would be huge! Can Jayden Daniels quick release/mobility and new offensive system make our O line’s life easier, maybe we’ll see…we didn’t spend on a WR (resigning Samuel’s or expensive free agent), or spend big other than Luvu (I love) and the center from Dallas and Dorance Armstrong (who DQ knows very well with his time in Dallas)…so safe spending and a bunch of 1 year rentals…Wilie and Jonathan can come off the books after this year with huge cap savings…MAJOR cap room coming our way and we’ll have MUCH better clarity of what we have and what we TRULY need…I mean this is down right genius…if we DO struggle, that’s fine cus we’re rebuilding and high draft picks will only help…so WIN WIN |

Re: Commanders Training Camp 2024
So the USA Today newswire did an article on Forbes. Nothing really earth-shattering just Forbes is happy to be under the new coaching regime. I just have to pick on the editors of the article for the final paragraph -
Forbes has gotten off to a strong start in training camp and looks like a different player. The next test is seeing it translate to the games. Washington opens the preseason against the New York Gets on Saturday. Proofreading is so dead in the news industry. That is unless the Jets and Giants merged into the New York Gets.[emoji1787] Sent from my SM-S711U using Tapatalk |
Re: Commanders Training Camp 2024
Lol.. It would be nice if Forbes plays better, which would mean we have one less thing to worry about in the future.

Re: Commanders Training Camp 2024
Forbes and St Juste have been the no1 CBs with the rookie in the nickel.
This could change but it’s noteworthy as Forbes was maybe to be replaced by the signing of Davis. Not happening as of now |

Depth chart is out. Forbes is a backup. Kinda surprised at that tbh. Phidarian Mathis is a backup to the backup. Not surprised at that. Jamin Davis is a backup OLB. Kinda lines up with what we're hearing out of camp. |
Re: Commanders Training Camp 2024
Yeah, Forbes being a back up isn't a good sign. Coleman starting as LT is nice.
But then, this is still training camp and depth chart can easily change throughout the camp. |

On to Cincinnati...
We can't continue to dwell on the things of the past. There are probably 100 different decisions over the last couple of years that could have been made that would have been better than the decision that was actually made. A lot of teams can probably say that, though. We have new owners, a new coaching staff, lotta new players, new atmosphere, renewed optimism... The mistakes of the past will slowly but surely show up in the rear-view mirror, where they belong. I'd rather talk about the future than the past at this point. I know it's preseason, but I can't wait to get a glimpse of what this team will be about this weekend. |

They've said many times that they want players that are physical, who run and hit. That is not a description of Forbes. To put it another way, "Not like Forbes" is what they say they want. Regardless of that I think it's good that the coaches are giving Forbes a fair chance to make the team. He could be the exception to the rule. The real test for Forbes would be to put him up against big receivers in the preseason and see whether or not big receivers can just shrug him off like they did last season. |

Re: Commanders Training Camp 2024
Good coaching can't fix our most serious deficiencies. Only AP can do that. We need: 1) A #1 CB. and 2) OL depth.
AP should consider throwing some big money at Stephon Gilmore. He would be plug and play. Forget about Forbes. He can't play. |

He is looking to be paid for several years and that may not be a wise investment. But as a fan it sure would be nice but fans don't know as much as a good front office does. Emphasis on the good front office part, when fans were screaming for Darrisaw and Gonzales and Ron gave us Davis and Forbes well that was not a good front office. |
Re: Commanders Training Camp 2024
this is a rebuild. why would you sign gilmore? that makes no sense. this team will win 6 games tops. still not better than dallas, eagles or giants. this year is all about #5. if he can start every game, and get that experience, and become an elite player then we are on our way. that is really all that matters imo. the rest can fall into place if he is elite.
people making a big stink about forbes. he isn't a NFL player. he's too fucking small and weak. damn good college player but the sec isn't the NFL. terrible pick by ron as was Davis. now they're trying to have davis change positions? when does that work in the NFL? like never. he'll be gone too. |
Re: Commanders Training Camp 2024
In hindsight, so far, I hate the Forbes pick. At the time it was a slight reach, but not egregious. Many had a 1st round grade on him, many had 2nd round grades as well. But what made it worse (both then and now) is that C Gonzalez was also on the board. Hopefully, this staff can get something out of Emmanuel. If not, bubbye.

I can't agree with you that Forbes was not an egregious pick by RR. Hindsight was not required to see that it was. Gonzales has everything you could want in a CB. He was a consensus Top 10 pick. Before the draft, I and many other Commanders fans said that it would be a no-brainer to pick Gonzales if he fell to us, and it was. Meanwhile, RR fell in love with a 165 pound CB with a very slight frame. Forbes was unlikely to hold up in the NFL from the beginning. I just can't bring myself to lighten up on RR when it comes to his drafting record. He was a terrible GM. |

KI, I think you’re spot on about CB. I wanted us to sign Gilmore, or a vet CB this offseason even if it was for 1 year. I saw CB as our biggest weakness, and I felt we needed to address it in FA, or the draft. Forbes was a terrible pick, then and now (as someone else mentioned) being taken ahead of the consensus #1 CB Gonzalez was negligent malpractice. Concern is warranted; our starting LCB and RCB are below average. |
