For those too young to remember, trust me when I tell you that there was no nastier, hard-nosed OL than Jacoby. He was huge and strangely fast -- he played every OL position but C at various points, and they used to pull him all the way across the OL as a T. He was undrafted, but was just a mauler his entire career, and when he got out in front on run blocking, he wanted to bury guys into next week. He routinely played hurt (once with multiple broken bones in his hand), and it never showed.

Let me put it this way: his former defensive foes Lawrence Taylor, Chris Doleman and Charles Haley ALL have said Jacoby deserves to be in the HOF.
Yeah we suck at the moment. But wouldn't you rather have our set up right now than Dallas, Giants or Jets? I'm now of a mind to say listen to trade offers but don't burn down the house. We're looking at probably rebuilding 1/3 to 1/2 the roster this offseason so trading away core players is short sighted. Maybe Payne and I'd consider Luvu (mainly because Whitt hasn't got a clue how to use him), even Deebo (though I prefer not), but who else is going to generate interest but be expendable without undermining next years roster and team confidence? Yes we need picks, but we're not getting 7-10 worthwhile picks without trading away key assets and I can't see Peters doing that. We need a good draft next year, but probably more importantly we need a meaningful FA haul and not another OOTH gang. Hopefully AP has learned his lesson there.
Yep, good sense.
We traded for Lattimore for 24, thinking he’d help us in that playoff run. Never should have happen. Think the trade happened around our 3 game losing streak.

We should have waited until the offseason for trading for a CB.

AP blew it, thinking we were a player or two away.

None of those vets should’ve have returned. You get year 1, trying to establish your culture.

Year 2, you replace those vets with youth and sped. We didn’t do that. Now we have to do that and basically wasted a year.

Both men are on the hot seat for 26.

AP has to revamp the roster with youth and speed and actually address our weaknesses, instead of trying to get by with a short term fix. If we don’t have a significantly better team in 26; Josh will have to take a serious look at whether AP is the guy.

For DQ, at minimum he needs to finish 9-8. Frankly, if the offense can run like it did in 24; we should be contending for as least a wild card. 8-9 or worse in year 3; is unacceptable.

We aren’t going to fix all our problems in one year but we should be able to bounce back with another wild card berth. Going take 2, maybe 3 offseasons to have that Super Bowl contender.
The jury is out on whether "Dairy Quinn" is a legit coach in the NFL, IMO. I do want to slap that backwards cap off of his head...
Run a few mocks and I'm not convinced trading down from the 1st is necessarily a good move. More picks is one thing, but they need to be the right picks. If a top Edge, DB or WR is there when we pick, we have to seriously consider it. A difference maker may well be better than 2 or 3 guys that end up being just depth pieces.
Yep. Fans always want trade backs, especially when they are lacking picks. But just looking at our history the trade backs only meant we passed on a better player, the extra picks resulted in special teams players.

If you have the chance to grab a potentially great player you have to grab him.

Like when we traded back for Kerrigan and could have had Watt.
Like when we traded back for Kerrigan and could have had Watt.
In those cases you look at what value you got. Kerrigan wasn't Watt, but he was outstanding. Did the rest of the trade balance out what we gave up in not taking Watt? Hindsight would suggest no, so I would have stuck and taken Watt, but at teh time it wasn't a disastrous trade.

This time around I'd think hard before trading. We're likely top 10, if not top 5 picks, so a blue chip edge rusher could well be far more value in the long run than a trade down. If we're top 5, you have to consider trading down a little and still getting one of the top edge candidates, but I wouldn't trade out of the top 10 unless the offer was ridiculous.

Obviously the gap between Watson and Kerrigan made it a bad move. We also could have had Kyle Hamilton, who I really wanted, and they traded back for Doctson and some role players.

Just an incredible combination of strength, quicks, moves, and ferociousness. Absolute stud. Love Kerrigan but only 1 JJ Watt.

Feeling cursed today and your post reminds me:

2012 OROY -- RGIII
2020 DROY -- Chase
2024 OROY -- JD5

We really, really need to buck this trend, and I hope JD5 doesn't become the next one. His work ethic suggests that he won't (and stands in contrast to the other guys here), but the injury situation this year has been awful.

And I hate the fact that I will need to wait until September to have optimism about a football season. I sure picked the wrong year to spring for the Sunday ticket.

The Colts are apparently going to work out 44 year old Phillip Rivers. No lie. Hasn’t played since 2020. That’s bananas.

BTW, we may suck, but tonight, the Eagles sucked pretty badly too (despite the refs gifting them a td). We thumped the team they just lost to. Man, it would be amazing to beat them, at least once, but it’s kinda hard to see that happening.

I find it hard to disagree with this list. https://www.hogshaven.com/build-the-team/392577/washington-commanders-2026-building-blocks

Not 100% convinced about trading Payne, but if the price is right... Like to keep Deebo if the same holds true, but I can see him gone for a last dance somewhere else.

I don't want us to tank, but getting the #1 pick could change the whole picture dramatically. Get the right haul from trading down, and we could be looking at a whole lot of youth talent coming on board. Just not sure I'd trade out of 4th-6th if Tyson or Downs are still available though.

Who’s gonna take Payne with that deal? He’s a cut for sure

I disagree about Luvu. He’s worth keeping around going into the final year of deal.

I’m seriously done with Quan Martin, he just doesn’t look the part. I wouldn’t bring him back. Obviously Lattimore is a cut at 18.5 mill and no penalty for release.

Sheehan is right, we need at least 5 new starters on Defense and a let a new D coordinator have a say.

Who’s gone from defense the year:

Quan Martin
Bobby Wagner
Payne
Lattimore
Wise
Noah I

I’d keep around Wil Harris and Luvu both in their final year of contracts. Kinlaw and Armstrong are starters on the dline. Johnny Newton needs to stay around on rookie deal

Safety, DE, LB and Corner. DT help. Depth everywhere

I'd keep Wise -- he was playing quite well before the injury. And I agree re: Kinlaw and Luvu as well. I feel less sure about Newton -- our D line is bad enough that he ought to be making an impact now, and he isn't. The rookie deal makes it tempting, but he has a lot to prove after this complete dud of a season.

Lots of needs all around, unfortunately.

The article is right in that we should keep the guys on rookie/team friendly deals, at least as long as there aren't offers on the table. I can't help wondering how much better some guys would play with a new D coaching set up.

As much as they need a WR, and a good one should be there when they pick regardless of where they end up picking, I am intrigued by Downs. They have to come away with an impact player with that first pick and he seems like a pretty sure thing. Edge is a bigger need perhaps, and they are harder to find. But man I've been looking for an impact safety since Sean Taylor.

I assure you, they aren't picking a WR in the first round. That's not happening with the defense as terrible as it is.

Re: We Suck - 2026 NFL Mock Draft Thread

Now the 1st 18 picks are set, I'd suggest one of the top defenders is almost certain to fall to us (top 3 picks all looking for a new QB; will Arizona reach or trade back a little? Will someone like Pittsburgh trade up for a QB?), Titans probably go WR, Giants and Browns could take anyone, but likely looking at OL. Assuming that plays out and no trades change the picture, I think that puts Bain or Downs firmly in our 1st pick slot @ #7, in which case I'm taking Bain.

#7 Bain Edge Miami
#71 McNeil-Warren S Toledo
#145 Perkins LB LSU
#187 Masses DB Cal
#198 Barton LB Utah
#223 Coleman Jr Missouri

Was looking to take another TE in the lower rounds, but it wouldn't have been BPA. Hopefully we address WR and TE in FA, and pick up an RB too.

Did 1 trade down w/ the Bucs. PFN has a few different site rankings you can choose from now to maybe see some guys in different placed. Knowledge is power.

PFN had a glitch in the matrix. Froze and then couldn't fix itself. Pick 184 was Red Murdock, LB, University of Buffalo.

I mean, we weren't able to find a reliable kicker for at least a decade so at this point, we need to try everything we can do to find a kicker including hosting open tryouts or something. We should even host a try out for people off streets. Just find a damn kicker that we can hold on for years to come.
