Re: Did anyone else watch Comcast postgame? (Lavar Related)
I am not a big name caller but at the risk of sounding petty and bitchy anyone who thinks Lavar should be playing or that Lavar isn't playing for any other reason than performance issues is just plain retarded.
I'd love one of you morons to say to Williams' or Gibbs' face that Lavar isn't playing because of some contract dispute. I think Gibbs' might punch you and I imagine Williams' might have Sean Taylor kill you. How anyone can think that either of those guys would sacrifice the supposed playmaking ability that you all seem to think we cannot live without to the detriment of the team is mind boggling. And to think that somehow the coaches just don't seem to understand how Lavar JUST HAS TO PLAY because he is so great is only slightly less moronic. You see anyone on our defense that freelances? No. Why not? Because their ass is on the bench when they do. Williams' defense is predicated on 11 guys doing their job. If the 11 guys play together and everyone does their job then the defense is going to win the battle. If one guy blows an assignment for any reason then they are screwed. Why? Because the other 10 guys are doing their job and don't have the ability to drop what they're doing to pick up someone else's mistake. There is no "Package" where they can just put Lavar in to rush the QB constantly. They'll get burned as soon as every team watches the tape and sees that all he does is rush the QB. He has to be able to play IN THE SCHEME otherwise he brings nothing but risk with little reward. |

It's that #56 Jersy they purchased, it "DEMANDS" that he plays. I'm still wearing #28.
Ugh, this is seriously turning in to Ramsey/Brunell all over again.
There is no comparison right here like Ramsey/Brunell. Holdman is nowhere close to the caliber player as LaVar. When GW came in last year he made a point in saying he was moving LaVar back to Weak side LB so he could freelance and make big plays. Now all of a sudden he doesn't want that. What has Holdman done that has saved a game. I did see him out of position when Tatum broke that second run. LaVar would have broke those blocks and he would have been stopped and WE WIN! Nobody can tell me that Holdman or Clemons can be trusted more. Weakside LB is not like Middle or Strongside. If LaVar was in the middle, I could totally understand where GW is coming from. If nobody remembers, but Warrick was picked up this last offseason and LaVar has been learning this system as long as anyone else so I dont buy that they can't trust him. We need LA and thats it. Please dont compare it to Brunell/Ramsey.... |

I have no problem with someone not agreeing with the decision, after all that's what we're here for. But to hear some people take it to such extremes as to question the knowledge and integrity of our coaches is really ridiculous and a slap in the face to what these guys are all about. Saying you don't agree is one thing, but saying that Williams doesn't know what he's doing, he's hurting the team by not playing him, etc., etc., is laughable. These same kind of comments were directed towards Gibbs when he benched Ramsey, and look how that has turned out. This not playing LaVar crap is getting out of control. Us loyal Washington Redskin fans deserve to know why he is not playing. We are paying all of their salaries, by buying and selling out everygame. We are the best fans in NFL and deserve to know why he isn't playing. I am sick of the speculation, the he said this and that crap. LaVar is a 3 time pro-bowler, he did not forget how to play football. He went through 5 different d-coordinators and still made probowl after probowl, after probowl. They keep saying he isn't disciplined enough for this D, Well dont the players love it because its more aggresive, more attack style? Isn't that what LaVar does best, attack the QB. You can not tell me, Clemons is a better pass rusher that LA, thats just not true. There is an underlying reason why he isn't playing, the salary, the knee, something. He deserves it as well as we do. this is rediculous. The man has been the face of the organization for 5 years, and now is nothing? If they are trying to trade him, going to drop him, not playing him to reduce the salary cap hit because of insentives in his contract, something has to give, and we all deserve to know what it is!!

If he has to bench a three-time Pro Bowl linebacker, a $6 million-a-year man, to get his point across, he'll do it." But yeah, LaVar not playing has everything to do with his on field performance and nothing to do with spite or ego...
What does this have to do with ego or spite?? To me this screams that no individual player is above the goals of the team. Simple as that. If this benching had to do with spite or ego, it would be a hollow move, meaning that there would be no solid rationale behind it other than to feed Gibbs' ego. The very sound of that is absolutely ridiculous to me. Gibbs and co. always have the team's best interests in mind. We may not know the entire story, but we can be sure there are solid reasons why LaVar is riding pine. If you think otherwise, fine, but that tells me you really don't understand what Gibbs is all about. |

I think the problem is the coaches have essentially told everyone why he's not playing but it's not the answer you want to hear. Williams has been consistent, he is not performing up to standards in practice. That's what he has said over and over again the past few weeks. If you don't like the answer then don't keep asking the question until you hear one you like. |
Re: Did anyone else watch Comcast postgame? (Lavar Related)
No I didn't say GW has forgotten how to run a D. Has LaVar forgotten how to play football? that was the question. And the answer to that is NO!. Holdman may be a servicable LB but in no way is he the play LA is. Someone brought up and interesting stat about tackles and forced fumbles, sacks. Holdman has half as many as the others LBs and less than some of DBs. I havn't watched any gametape but if he isnt' getting the tackles on his side of the field, which most of the time is the weak side, with Carlos Rogers on that side, dont you think they are running more to that side. Like I said, I dont watch game tape but I would expect him to have more tackles and maybe a sack or two. Wasn't GW so excited when he got here about LaVar and how great he was going to be in this D. His "playmaking" ability and aggressiveness was going to be used more than it ever has. I do believe Williams was more excited about LaVar than anybody on the team. Greg has done a great job w/ this D and I am glad we are winning, and Holdman is filling in OK. But the weakside LB is suppose to be making more plays, more pressures more hits, and I havn't seen any of that out there. And this past game, they played zone w/ the back four and kept eveyone else at the line of scrimmage, shouldn't he have had more plays? or am I retarted?

Re: Did anyone else watch Comcast postgame? (Lavar Related)
LaVar hasn't forgotten how to play football, but the problem appears to be he hasn't learned how to play football in a Gregg Williams' defense.

Re: Did anyone else watch Comcast postgame? (Lavar Related)
He has never been in a game for them to make that judgement. I dont know why he isn't playing, and like I said I just think we all deserve an answer. Greg Williams and Joe both know more about football than all of us combined, I dont argue that, I just wish we would know the truth. Maybe I have heard it and I just dont like the answer. But, dont you admit that its hard to believe that Holman and Clemons can play better than LA, or atleast play better in Williams eyes. its just very disappointing, to see a guy who has given everything he has to this organization and is basically tossed aside. Especially someone so loved by us fans.

Re: Did anyone else watch Comcast postgame? (Lavar Related)
Let's check the definition of 'ego'
an inflated feeling of pride in your superiority to others Is this really what Gibbs and the coaches are all about? Is Gibbs and co. getting off on benching Arrington just for the sake of benching a superstar?? I don't think this is about anybody's ego at all. If anything this is all about discipline and the message that it sends the rest of the team, that it doesn't matter what your paycheck is or what your past history is, you have to earn your playing time right now and practice the way you play, and apparently LaVar isn't doing this. |
Re: Did anyone else watch Comcast postgame? (Lavar Related)
You got it!!! I have said this thousands of times. When GW got here he was so pumped up about having LaVar on the field with his defense. How he was going to be a probowler every year. how he was going to make LaVar the greatest LB in the NFL. people seem to forget all that. there are reasons he is not playing that I dont think we will find out. But not for one second do I believe this crap about not conforming to the defense. Like I have said, the man has played in 5 different defensive schemes and went to the probowl in 3 of them. that to me says he adapts very well. and listens to what is being preached.

How has LaVar adapted to anything? He's played the same style under every coach, he basically does his own thing. LaVar is notorious for freelancing and not conforming to the defensive scheme. Look at how much he fought Marvin Lewis, he was like a wild dog that Lewis was trying to put a leash on. Eventually he broke him in but not without a pretty big struggle. As others have said, Pro Bowls don't really mean a whole lot. It's a big popularity contest. |

Why does everything have to be a big conspiracy or coverup? I really don't believe there are ulterior motives as to why LaVar isn't playing. I don't think it has anything to do with Holdman outperforming him as much as it has to do with what Holdman doesn't do (freelance), and what Arrington doesn't do (stay honest to the schemes). Williams has said that he expects his guys to practice the way they play. If Arrington isn't proving himself in practice, why should he be playing? This staff has already set this precedent with players like McCants. You either practice the way you play or you don't play on Sundays. |
Re: Did anyone else watch Comcast postgame? (Lavar Related)
Are anyone of us out on the practice fields? I didn't think so. none of us know what he does and doesn't do in practice. We are all going on what we know. And nobody was even talking about LaVar doesn't do this, he freelances too much when he was out there destroying people. When he was getting 11 sacks and over 100 tackles. When he got interceptions that turned our season around. We are going by what we are told. which I think, and I dont believe I am the only one, is a load of crap. You can not tell me that LaVar isn't a team player and doesn't do what is asked. He is as talented a player at LB that there is. And to think he doesn't "fit in" is rediculous. A player of his calibur fits in anywhere. And when or if he goes somewhere else we all better pray its not for someone we play on a regular basis, because he will stick it in our face every time we play him.

Exactly, and what we know from what Williams has said is clear, he's not happy with what LaVar has shown him in practice. Williams is a straight shooter, why would he BS this? People are really reaching here, I guess it's just too hard to believe that LaVar couldn't possibly do anything wrong. What I don't get is fans have gotten on LaVar in the past for his complaining and other things. It's always poor, poor LaVar, and we smacked him for that. Poor LaVar got screwed over in his contract... poor LaVar didn't want to play DE under Lewis... poor LaVar feels unappreciated, etc. Now people are coming to his defense... I don't get it. Face it guys, LaVar has brought many of these things on himself, why is this any different? All of a sudden now people have a million excuses for him, when before it was shut up LaVar and just play. Why people are supporting him and questioning the coaches is beyond me. |
Re: Did anyone else watch Comcast postgame? (Lavar Related)
It is more than athletic ability in a disciplined defense that you need to suceed. No one believes Arrington is not a team player and wants to do what is best for the team. Linebacker is about instincts and reads, knowing where to be at the right time. He is not showing that within this defense which requires the LB's to do a great deal of studying and understanding the scheme. It's not about if I make this tackle across the field when I should have been in position for the cutback that went to the house because I overpursued or ran up field trying to get to the QB for the big sack and the back ran right by me. It is nothing more then Holdman is playing within in that, not flashy but getting the job done. As much as I hate having Lavar not playing, I stopped questioning them after the Brunell Ramsey deal and letting Smoot and Pierce and Coles go. There interest in the team succeeding is just as great as us fans who are questioning them and they have more on the line to make the best decisions let's say your career, your Hall of Fame name, they have a lot of pride and interest in the success of this organization.

Re: Did anyone else watch Comcast postgame? (Lavar Related)
Whenever there was a Lavar thread in the past I'd reply with "Who is Lavar Arrington". Some would call me a Lavar hater but I really am not. I just couldn't understand why there such a big fuss made over this guy. I know he's a fan favorite and high draft pick but let me ask the question again: WHO IS LAVAR ARRINGTON?
A lot of you guys talk like he's Lawrence Taylor or even Ray Lewis. HE IS NOT. Not even close. What I have seen is a guy with a ton of potential who hasn't done much for us. Pro Bowls are overrated to the point that's it become a joke. And how guys can side with Lavar over Greg Williams is beyond me. I've been a Skins fan for like 25 years and I think Williams is the best defensive coach we've ever had. I might even say that our D the last couple years is the best I've ever seen. And now guys are questioning him cuz of Lavar? What has Lavar done? He sacked Aikman and returned a ball (tipped right into his hands) for a TD. So? Did he turn us into a top-5 D? Has he led us to the playoffs? As for the consipracy theories - also makes no sense. How does keeping a fan favorite and huge chunk of our cap on the sidelines help the coaches at all? Does it make our organization look good when our biggest cap hit and supposed franchise player are sitting on the bench? No. If anything it makes us look stupid for a change. So I wonder - despite all these factors working in his favor, Lavar still can't earn his way onto the field? Again I am not a Lavar hater. I'd also love to see him come back strong and contribute to this team. But there is no way I'm siding with LA on this one, not when GW and Gibbs are sitting on the other side. |
Re: Did anyone else watch Comcast postgame? (Lavar Related)
Also, we should consider ourselves EXTREMELY LUCKY to have a coaching staff that has the balls and credibility to even be able to bench a guy like Arrington. On many other teams he'd be playing undeservedly just because of his big contract.
|
Re: Did anyone else watch Comcast postgame? (Lavar Related)
I think its lame to leave him on the bench all game if they're not going to use him. either play him or deactivate him, but there's no reason to continue to lead people on every press conference about how he'll play more next game if its not true.

At the point he becomes a distraction, then I agree. However, the one thing that nobody in this thread has touched on is Lavar's response to all this. As far as I can tell, he hasn't said anything disruptive. That's a class act. Far too many players in this league are whining "Give me the damn ball" - Lavar, more than anyone, knows this is a TEAM sport, and is committed to not letting this issue get larger than the team. Really the only question is whether his commitment is sufficient to motivate him to be the type of player he needs to be to play in GW's system. I really hope it is. EDIT: Of course, he has expressed his desire to play. There's nothing disruptive in that, though. |
Re: Did anyone else watch Comcast postgame? (Lavar Related)
I'll give LaVar credit, he is dealing with this well in the public eye. The team is winning, at least he realizes the worst thing to do would be to rock the boat on a 3-1 team. If the team was 1-3 though I think we'd hear a bit more out of him.
All of a sudden now people have a million excuses for him, when before it was shut up LaVar and just play.
Why people are supporting him and questioning the coaches is beyond me.
Who's making excuses? Excuses would come if he was on the field and not producing. Kind of like the Holdman fans who call him "servicable" and say things like "he's where he's supposed to be". Hell, if where the weak side linebacker is supposed to be is constantly being blocked by a fullback or tight end, I could start for Washington. I don't think making a statement like "LaVar Arrington is immensely better than Holdman" is an excuse, it's a fact. And if anyone cares to dispute this, I certainly hope you have more ammunition than "coach says so", because statistics are a bit more effective. And people keep making the comment that Pro Bowls don't mean anything and it's a popularity contest. I agree with the popularity contest part, but how do you think a player becomes popular, by just going out and "being where he's supposed to be? No, they do it by making plays, which is what LaVar does. If you guys think our defense is perfect and Gregg Williams is god, then don't whine about no turnovers or sacks, which is exactly what LaVar brought to the table. |

I agree with this point 100%. If the coaching staff thinks LaVar is a problem for whatever reason, deactivate him and get rid of him, but don't tell me the lifetime 2nd stringer that starts at his position is playing better than he is. |

Re: Did anyone else watch Comcast postgame? (Lavar Related)
my take
lavar is easily the best lb on the team, washington is a very close 2nd. when greg williams was hired by gibbs to be the defensive coordinater all GW could talk about was LA, how LA was talented and was going to fit in great in his defense. lavar starts the preseason and then the real season playing fantastic, then LA gets hurt, basically done for the season. during the off season lavar embarrasses the organization, which gibbs hates. LA complains about his contract and how the team rushed him back to soon. lavar and the organization claim they have "made up" but the truth is dan snyder, joe gibbs and greg williams are still pissed at lavar for his actions. greg williams and joe gibbs see that the defense is good without LA so they bench him and they make up a lame excuse to tell us fans, also, LA is going to cost the skins bib bucks next year so , i think, they want to keep him healthy so they can trade him. i don't disagree with the skins actions but i wish they would just be honest with us. i don't believe the reason they are giving. |
Absolutely couldn't have said it better...We do deserve to know and everyone saying LaVar is not listening to the coaches and all that...that is speculation...Why does GW deserve more respect than LaVar...I love GW..dont get me wrong but I think we as the fans deserve real answers....dont you agree? |

Why does GW deserve more respect than LaVar? Are you kidding? That's like asking why does a General deserve more respect than a soldier. It's pretty clear why GW deserves more respect than LaVar, because he's the damn coach. |
