Re: Playoff Hopes Dead?

I wouldn't say they're over, but I'd say we're definitely now playing for a wild car, lucky shot at the playoffs versus actually playing to control our destiny or win a division.

Re: Playoff Hopes Dead?

Close to dead but we still have a pluse.. We would have had to win the final three divison games regardless of what has happen the last two weeks. So if loose to Sando and beat ST.L and ARZ we could still finish 10-6. Im not saying its likely but we can still decide our own destiny.

Re: Playoff Hopes Dead?

we'll go 8-8, maybe 9-7 at best, and miss the playoffs - something I've maintained since the loss to the Giants. We lose next week, beat the Cards and Rams, and win one of two against the Giants and Eagles.

We will have like the 10th or 11th pick in the draft which Denver will use on a quality player.

On the bright side, perhaps no GMs or owners will come knocking for G. Williams as a head coaching candidate. Can't blame Williams for our stinking D this year - we have way too many deficiencies. Gibbs and Williams will still be here next year and take us to the playoffs.

Didn't think about that, great point. I don't blame Williams either. While it does seem at times that opponents have figured out his blitz packages, I really think the players he's dealing with are starting to play down to reality.

I think we're out of the playoffs. If we can't beat Oakland in OUR house....what hope is there for the teams ahead of us?

We're improved from last year, but we're just not quite there yet. Once we stop giving the ball away, we will go a lot father. Until then, keep scratching your heads.

you nailed that on the head.....I'm tired of all these excuses for us...we should be fucking winning....not losing to a piece of shit team like the Raiders.......this season sucks a big D

Re: Playoff Hopes Dead?

The playoff hopes are not dead but they are on lifesupport. The numbers are starting to not add up for the skins and having 2 games to make up in the Div and the WC is going to be really hard to to. That said all the redskins can do is get back to winning and keep winning, they cant control the teams they are chasing but they can control themselves.

Re: Playoff Hopes Dead?

First of all, let's kill all of this rubbish that Brunell sucks...I won't even entertain that other thread. He's not responsible for dropped passes and poor pass protection. In fact, on a couple of drives he ran for first downs - twice!

Secondly, we'll have to flat out win every single game from here on out to have a shot. Can it happen? - sure. It will be a long shot, however.

So glad we have LaVar...and I hope he's a Skin next year!!!

Re: Playoff Hopes Dead?

Skins will need to run the table now to make the playoffs, they'll have to take 5 of 6 at least. I doubt that's possible especially now with the injuries starting to pile up.

I think it's doable, Matty. If we can get pass San Diego - it's very doable, IMO.

Nah, we're a .500 ballclub that will have to rebuild next year. All of these rebuilding years seem to lead to nothing but more rebuilding.

MTK 11-21-2005 09:22 AM

Re: Playoff Hopes Dead?

At this point I'm hoping for 9-7, that actually wouldn't be a bad thing considering our horrible turnover ratio and general inconsistency on both sides of the ball.

I beg to differ...I think we're more like an 11-5 - 10-6 ballclub with a few correctable deficiencies. I know it's late in the year to start talking about "correctables", but we'll see how this thing plays out.

Re: Playoff Hopes Dead?

Gotta ride with Matty, If we win 5 of our last 6 to get to (10-6) We have a shot. I think we have a better chance of getting in winning the division than getting a wild card birth.

We still have a solid conference record. We can and will get in. It is not how you start it is how you finish. I am a homer but I refuse to believe we will not turn this around and make some noise. We are so close. Keep the faith brothers!!

You got it Matty, anything less than 5 of 6 wont get the job done.

I hope you're right. But, we're a team with a very old coaching staff and a QB on his last hoorah. I say we give this group one more season then start an across-the-board youth movement. We all know it's something we need to do. Otherwise, we'll have another 10 years of less-than-average football in the D.C. area.

I agree the staff could use some tweaking. But we have a lot of youth on the ballclub. I don't think any wholesale changes are warranted.

Consider the following are really young:

S.Moss
Cooley
Portis
Rabach
Marshall
Taylor
C.Rogers
Lavar (what 27ish)

I think we can mix some younger guys in with this group. But I hear what you're saying - one more and no more!!

How will this team be able to start a youth movement with no draft picks? This team has traded something like 15 picks in the last 3 years and next years 1st round pick belongs to denver. What we are seeing with this team is the result of mismanagement over the past 5 or 6 years and it wil not be changed until the management gets its head on straight. Unfortunately I see another 10 years of less than average football for this team. Its a shame.

As much as I hate to say it, the youth movement needs to start with the coaching staff.

How can anyone that has watched the Redskins over the last seven weeks, look at this team and think they have a snowballs chance in hell of winning out? They're doing exactly what they've been doing for the past decade. Starting strong, losing a bunch of close games that they should've won, and finishing right around .500.

And the worst part is, the problems are never the same from week to week. Last week, the O line looked good, and the passing game was working, but the secondary looked horrible. This week, they were great against the run, but the O line looked horrendous, and they couldn't get anything going offensively. It's like they patch one hole, and spring another leak the very next game. Good teams overcome their deficiencies, while Washington has theirs exposed week in and week out.

I'll buy that. Most everyone on their "picks" figured we would lose to San Diego, so i guess if we beat them and fall to Oakland its basically the same thing. I'm just worried we will go out and beat the Chargers, then lose to the f'n Cardinals or somthing. Just as were all getting happy and excited.

I disagree. A team will never gel into something great if it switches coaches year in and year out. If the players can learn to hold onto the ball, then we'd be talking about winning the division and battling for home field position in the playoffs.

I agree that changing coaches quickly makes it impossible for a team to gel. However, we no doubt will be changing coaches in the next couple years and will have to start all over again.

Maybe, maybe not. Joe's not the oldest coach in the league. Look at Joe P. coaching for Penn State. I think the guy is in his 80's or close to it.

Good point about Joe Pa. I guess it all depends on how long Mrs. Joe Gibbs is willing to put up with her husband working 80-hour weeks!

YES WE HAVE A CHANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were supposed to win 1 out of Tampa and Eagles, 3 of the next 4 and 2 of the last 3 division games. WE DID WIN 1 out of tampa and ealges and we have lost one but if we win our next three we are money and back on track, had we won the raiders and lost to the chargers the season wouldn't be over! ITS NOT OVER! until we lose two more no way i bend over and take it.

who knows giants playing the seahawks at seahawks, and dallas playing denver we could be only one game behind. the next week giants and dallas play each other and one has to lose,so i am told, and we might be tied with one of them sons a bitches, we are going for the division and not stopping till we get there.

Gibbs and Co can start placing orders for wide screens to watch the playoffs. After today's loss I really don't see a realistic chance of getting in as a wild card.

It's been dead since we lost to the Bucs IMHO. If we can't beat a team like that then we shouldn't think playoffs, we'd just get embarrassed.

Only way we make the playoffs now is to win out and get help from the other teams, which means our playoff hopes are dead, unofficially, but realistically.

I don't want the team to go to the playoffs, they don't deserve to. It would be one game and done.

No, lets get a look at #17.

After we lose another game, then I say we look at Campbell or Ramsey. Right now, we can still get to the playoffs and we shouldn't give up until we are definately out of the playoffs. It would send a bad message to the team for the coaching staff to essentially give up now.
