Re: Campbell, now!

Of coarse Brunell is the only reason we have even 5 wins, no one else could have moved the ball, or won any games, our defense is Brunells biggest problem, so what if our defense managed to outscore Brunell against the raiders, they gave up 16 points, any time a defense gives up 16 points you deserve to lose, I don't care how many times the offense turns the ball over it's the defenses job to over come turnovers, if our defense scored 1 more TD we wouldn't be having this conversation, Brunell's stats are fabulous, and that's all we need to look at, the win lose stat is moot, Brunells stats say he's doing his job.

As for a possible mistake not sticking with Ramsey? How can anyone say that? Did anyone see the guy play the first quarter against the Bears? He was awfull, so awful Gibbs couldn't bare to watch any longer and had to replace him, I don't want to hear how he drove the ball downfield twice on what has become maybe the best defense in football, and had more passing yards in a quarter than Brunell had in 3, He had more than an ample opportunity to prove himself and blew it, some QB's don't even get a quarter to prove themselves. Bottom line he threw an INT, now I know theres going to be a few of you who say the reciever ran the wrong route on that INT, but that's no excuse, as for his fumble with that cheap shot, well that was the last straw, we all know how Gibbs feels about turnovers, if you turn the ball over your out of there regardless of who you are.

As for Campbell, I believe Matty is right on this one, Brunell is the starter next season, and possibly the season after that, there is no sense in rushing a young QB, we are 5-5 and still much alive in the playoff race, we all knew Campbell was a 2 year project at best when we gave away this upcoming draft for him, lets not ruin him by throwing him to the wolves this soon, 1st rd QB's take a lot of time to develope, look at Ramsey he's still developing, nope I believe Gibbs is right on track with Brunell, now if we could only get the defense to hold teams below 10 points we would be fine.
I think we are all overacting on Brunell. The reason the Skins are losing is because the "D" can't stop the big play, (or very many plays for that matter) and in the 2nd half Sunday, I blame what I thought was very poor play calling on our inability to come back. There were several series late in the game when Brunell dropped back to pass 3 straight times and had three straight incompletions when we had 2 WRs (thrash and patten) out of the game. Way to go Gibbs, play to our strenghts! And all of those bombs to Taylor Jacobs, were a joke.
That's it I had it, no one, and I mean NO ONE, questions Gibbs on this site, he's a hall of famer and has won 3 SB's, how many have you one sir? :duel:

Will you people stop talking about last season, last season is over, didn't anyone watch Ramsey play in the pre-season, he was horrific, and I don't want to hear the same old argument that he played against starters, and Brunell played against the starting 11 at the UPS loading dock! Did you pay attention to that first quarter of the Bears game? Ramsey is lucky he's not bagging groceries somewhere.

Brunell's arm is dead? I don't know how you came up with that, the man is 2-5 in our last 7 games, anyone else would be 0-7, how Brunell can even put up with the team that's around him is beyond me, you just wait comcast, as soon as Williams assembles the 85' bears on defense Brunells win lose stats will go way up. You can take that to the bank! :hater:
Ben Roethlisberger. But for us, I can't think of anyone who had came in as a rookie and had led us to a winning season. I think when Mark Rypien finally nailed down the starting position, he had already been in the league for a year, maybe two.
Close, He really didn't nail it down until the season he won the SB about 6 seasons, in fact that season was a due or die for him.

Its crazy to start Campbell. Brunell is generally moving the offense, looking good and it would be best for Campbell to sit for a season or two. It never hurts to have a guy chill out on the bench and actually learn the system before he is asked to play.

I definitely agree. Most teams don't have the luxury of letting a young QB ride the pine for 1-2 seasons, but I think that's the plan especially with the re-birth of Brunell.

Brunell's has had at least 5 games this year that are better than ANY game Ramsey has ever put together. Ramsey is not the awnser. Haven't you seen enough of Ramsey?? Brunell is not Brady or anything but hes a major step up from Ramsey.. This debate has already been had after week one and I think the decision turned out OK for Gibbs. When Ramsey started did he have us in contention this late in the season? Ramsey can take is class with him to a new team next year. Class dosen't win games...

But, you would bench Mark Brunell for that one game when he has played great for the majority of the season? That would do nothing to contribute to the continuity of this team? The man is a great leader. He played smart even last year, although his play itself was poor. This year, he has played very good football, in addition to playing smart and being a team leader. I just don't get that vibe from Patrick Ramsey.

While that might work in college, it's not going to work in the NFL.

Brunell is a far better quarterback right now. He should and will stay the starter for now. Brunell gives us the best chance of winning for now.

I think the only question is, when do start playing for the future? The guy is 35.

SUNRA, I'm not meaning to pick on you, but why do you loathe Ramsey so much and defend Brunell at every turn? When Ramsey was getting sacked or fumbling last year, you said it was all on Ramsey. Now, you seem to be defending Brunell's fumblitis by attacking the O-line. I know you really like Brunell, but I'm sensing something else going on there.

Couldn't agree more, he's proven to outplay Brunell under the same conditions last year, and he had more passing yards in 1 quarter against the Bears than Brunell had all game.

This misconception that Ramsey wouldn't have progressed and become better with this offense just like Brunell has isn't fair to Ramsey, he hasen't been given the same opportunities as Brunell, to many here believe just because Ramsey is on the bench he can't play. Whether or not it's true it's just not fair to Ramsey who really hasen't been given a fair shot at the job, for all we know he might open up the offense by hitting recievers much deeper downfield, then maybe he wont, but there is no way to say because Gibbs has Brunell and he aint letting go, he couldn't let go last year and everyone on this board was on the Ramsey bandwagon because of the horrific play of Brunell, and it was true, many of us also felt it wasen't all Brunell's fault either, but Ramsey simply outplayed him under the same circumstances.

Ramsey may never get a chance again with us, but he's going to prove himself somewhere next season, good or bad. I believe he will go on to be very good for someone.

He deserves a chance to prove or disprove he's as dumb as everyone say's! Although now that we are basically down to 1 WR I could see Gibbs throwing Ramsey in there to protect Brunell's persona.

Don't get me wrong, I like Patrick Ramsey and if he got put back into the starting position, I'd pull for him too! But, I just dont' see Ramsey having the same type of leadership qualities that Mark Brunell possess. I think those qualities come with time. I believe Patrick is a late bloomer. There are several quarterbacks who really don't prove themselves until later in their career. I'm think Patrick is one of those guys. He has had the opportunitity to come in and prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's a team leader and a starter. You have got to be both as a quarterback. I think Ramsey is good enough to start on many teams, but not good enough to be a team leader. In time, I think he will be, but I do not believe replacing Mark Brunell is the answer to getting us out of this slump.

Holding onto the ball is what will get us out of this slump.

True, but I don't think our losses can be attributed to Brunell. Aside from Cooley and Moss, we haven't had any receiving threats and Mos has been effectively neutralized the past few weeks. Moreover, while our defense has played pretty well, our pass rush sucks. I don't think we can blame Brunell for a lack of a pass rush or decent #2 and #3 wideouts.

The more threads that talk about what Brunell is or isn't doing while clearly ignoring the root problems of the Redskins inconsistency reveals a need for that person or persons to get aa immediate check up from the neck up.

Without Brunell there is no 5 wins. There are maybe three wins and five near comback losses to add to Ramsey collection. Brunell has done the unthinkable in many cases, with throwing on the run, scrambling for the first down or finding the open receiver. No bum QB can lead a team against a 1# defensive team and score 28 points on offense and 7 on special teams. Brunell has fought in every game and is determined to finish strong this season. 3 reasons the turnovers and lack of offensive points are:

1. A very weak front four and poor blockling by Cooley and Royal. Especilally Cooley.
2.Walt Harris has been burned more times than you can shake a stick at.
3.No depth in the RB, DT, DE or CB positions. If a player is injured there should be another player to step up.
