Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
He's so done.... and I honestly think that Allen and Shanahan are not going to go out and get him. Too risky. And for what? A couple of years?? Joe Theismann was right. Let's not do this quick fix BS anymore. With or w/out Manning we're not going to the SB next year so there's no point in signing him.

If they are not going to trade up for RG3 then I agree with this. Unless Blackmon falls to #6 which I do not see happening, but would take all day. |
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
Isn't there a doctor here? Because from what I've heard this latest news is really being blown out of proportion. More surgery? Yeah probably but that could be a minor procedures many years down the road. Bone spurs? Not uncommon and not always such a big deal

Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
cant remember a more smoke and mirrors story in the NFL. information and misinformation from both sides. Irsay just cant keep his mouth shut to the media. Media just gonna driving it until free agency begins.
It doesn't sound like any doctor is telling Peyton he shouldn't play again
It also has to be noted that the surgery they are reffering to in the future would be after he is done playing not now. |
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
Also... MARK SCHLARETH came on ESPN yesterday and stated that this "4th surgery" was more of a procedure than an actuall surgery.
Much different in notation. A knee getting drained is a procedure for example, and a repair to a broken bone is a surgery. This story is so overblown. |

What's wrong with developing your young talent in a year or two? I don't understand why people act like we would be getting Manning in a vacuum. I think the health is a big concern, but I would hope that we have competent doctors on our staff that would make a correct assessment on Manning's health. I have no problem with the team trading up, and I am actually glad that it seems as though the team has the option of either a.) trading up and use the cap room to surround a young QB with the deep crop of FAs this offseason or b.) pick up manning, a developing 2nd round QB, a FA or two, and continue to build through the draft. Health issues aside, I don't get this stubborn, my way or the highway attitude of people that oppose to Manning's signing. I mean there is NO guarantee that we can trade up to get RG3, with the Browns sitting there with two #1 picks on this year's draft. Just as there is no guarantee that Manning would want to be here. No point of being at the extreme of these two debates because anything can happen. |

A) When did you examine him, so that you know this? B) What medical school is your M.D. degree from? C) What on earth would keep us from both signing Manning AND drafting a hot young rookie QB? |

B) Emory, but I took some time off to get my PhD in French Literature at Oxford. I really wanted to do something for me. Anyway after that I did my residency at John Hopkins. C) Depends on how hot the rookie QB. RGIII is a day 1 starter. Everyone else behind him is a group of guys that shouldn't be starting before week 8 at the very least. Now if you'll excuse me I have to get back to a triple bypass procedure, plus I got blood all over my keyboard. |

Doc: Peyton, if you play you may risk partial paralysis of your arm.
Peyton: Heres $10,0000 Doc: You're fine, suit up. |
Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
People are comparing this sitaution to when we got McNabb but it really wouldn't be that. It's more closely associated with the Vikings drafting Ponder and trading for McNabb last year. The difference is we're not sending draft picks to Indy for Peyton and...hopefully...Manning has better results here than McNabb in Minnesota

We're simply not in a position to give away picks to get RG3. As great an athlete that he is, he's going to need MAJOR coaching. Why not keep the pick, or move down and get more picks?? And Manning is 36 with bad neck nerves that weaken his tricep muscle. Now I do know this cause I did play QB a long time ago. Your tricep muscle is what gives you power to throw. I'm not a doc but that just doesn't sound good at all. I think ( and hope) we're done chasing other teams washed up players. |

Why not draft a guy ( like Cincy and Carolina did) and start him day one? Vikes would've just been better off playing Ponder from the get go. They just wasted time, money and draft picks messing around with McNabb. This team will be better off in the long run by doing what Cincy and Carolina did. |

Carolina had the first overall pick, not the same situation. Cincy is a good example, although I believe they had to do it out of necessity...also I think Mike Brown is a lucky SOB. The Redskins can't go into the draft without a viable FA QB, otherwise they'd get murdered in an effort to trade up. |

The Redskins can't go into the draft without a viable FA QB, otherwise they'd get murdered in an effort to trade up.
This. Plus, without a viable FA QB, the chances are increased that another QB hungry team will leapfrog us because they will know that we are desperate for a QB. Having a viable FA QB on the roster already makes us harder to figure out on draft day. |

Re: Peyton Manning or RGIII your choice
Mike Mayock said yesterday that if he's the Rams, he'd be ecstatic if the Browns gave up the 27th pick to move up two spots for RG3. Think about what the Rams are asking for. A one, a two, and a three to move down four spots. Yet, if their best offer was two firsts? They'd do that in a heartbeat.
My thing is this: if you are the Browns, why would you give up a first round pick to go up two spots even if you love RG3. No team can really make a better offer than the Browns first and second rounders, because the Browns have the draft position that the Rams want the most. I think the Browns are just going to let the board come to them. And the Rams aren't going to be able to get any additional value on the second overall pick. They are going to be stuck with it. At the end of the day, I think the 2013 first rounder is plenty enough to go as high in the draft as you need to go. I don't think you can get Luck or even get close to Luck at that price. But that gives you your pick of RG3/Blackmon/Kalil. Which is what the Redskins need the most. |

That would take our two biggest competitors out of the equation. The last remaining threat would be Seattle who would either give up a ton of picks or select some random QB earlier then expected. However the more likely situation is the Dolphins sign Matt Flynn and the Browns go into the draft looking for a QB. |

This year's first, although thinking more about it I think that compensation may be a tad bit low. Although if the Browns get a QB through FA, then we become the next best trading partner. |

I don't link to get anyone to read, as I'm sure I'll post all the major points in this thread in possibly fewer than 2,500 words.
In short, the second or third pick are only valuable trade chips if the Redskins make them so. Cleveland is in total command in the RG3 sweepstakes. They have both the best draft position and the most draft value to acquire or block another team from acquiring RG3. I think Cleveland wants Blackmon more than RG3 because he fits their offense. I don't expect St. Louis to pick Blackmon or RG3. I think they'll probably go with Kalil. And then I think Minnesota will try like hell to trade out of the third pick, and they'll probably be successful, especially if the Redskins like RG3. But lets say they go with Coples or Claiborne (or whoever). Then Cleveland gets to pick between RG3 and Blackmon. That's I think when the Redskins will strike (if not at Minnesota's pick). The Bucs probably aren't taking Justin Blackmon. If the Browns can pick up a pick to move from 4 to 6, history has already shown they will. And I think that makes a lot more sense for them than to take even a more lucrative offer from Miami, but drop to beyond where Blackmon will be on the board. Either way, I don't think Griffin goes higher than fourth. If Minnesota is desperate enough to let Washington or Miami or Seattle name their price, then yeah, that trade could happen. |
You dont think the Browns can sign a FA like Flynn and pick up RG3 as well?
Matt Flynn is going to be the guy wherever he goes. We're talking about signing a guy to something in the area of 6 years $59 million with around $24 million guaranteed (Ryan Fitzpatricks contract). If this was a situation like year 2 of the Kevin Kolb experiment then yeah they could easily go for someone like RGIII, but you can bank on any team signing Matt Flynn not using an early pick on a QB in 2012.
