Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
The X factor in a Talib signing and on/off field performance is our HC. Love him or hate him players tend to shape up and perform for Mike or they get the axe, similar to what you see with Belichick. My thing is, why doesn't Belichick want Talib anymore? They've got cap room to spare, yes? What's the story there?

Who says Belichick doesnt want him? BB has different negotiating tactics than most people. He has Tom Brady, he will pay whatever it takes for that. The rest of them, hes expecting a discount in exchange for a possible SB trip each year. He said goodbye to Welker and grabbed Amendola on what seemed to be negotiating principle alone. Not only did he offer Amendola more money per year, he already had the deal negotiated prior to his latest contract offer to Welker. I assume Welker/Amendola was a "shot across the bow" to his own players not named Tom Brady to take what he offers or play elsewhere. I understand the age difference between the two. But there is also the continuity and injury difference between the two. If he was that worried about age, BB could have found another Amendola in the next couple of years. So dropping Welker now when he would accept a two year deal was about something else than Welkers money. |

no seriously. i dont want Talib hes not a fit here. |

@AdamSchefter ... When all is said and done, whenever that is, I believe he (Talib) returns to New England.

Belichick never likes players who negotiate with other teams. Wouldn't be surprised IF skins sign Talib it's because Belichick get impatient & walks away from the table to persue another DB. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Any cornerback Belichick does not want, is one I would go for. Man cannot scout a corner to save his life.

I'm not particularly excited about the idea, but if Raheem Morris, Haslett, Shanahan and Allen are all on board, i'll defer to their judgement. Has and Morris wouldnt consider bringing anyone in with a checkered past unless they were confident he'd work in their system. I we were to make a "big" move, i'd want it to be for Winston. Hes turning 30 this year, but he seems like a perfect fit for our scheme. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Yeah I'm gonna say if we want him, he will fit.
Morris knows him well. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
It would be nice to hear about Fred and/or Talib today. HTTR24_7 said that he thought some restructures would happen, which certainly would seem to be clearing the way for some signing.

Prepare for the worst; hope for the best. Thats my mentality on that right now, because ultimately I see him going back to New England. |

It looks like the media is starting to fall in line with Schefter with the impression that Talib stays in New England.

We are in trouble if we don't get a decent DB before the draft. You can't draft a starting DB in the second round! Talib isn't a shutdown corner, but if his head is screwed on right that day he is above average. |

Ladarius Webb 3rd rounder. Richard Sherman 5th rounder. Brandon Flowers 2nd rounder. Brent Grimes undrafted. Cortland Finnegan 7th rounder. Brandon browner undrafted. You can find a good CB beyond the 2nd rounder. Plus this year in the draft the secondary is loaded with talent all the way into the 4th round. But yes, it would be nice to of signed talib and worried about depth and starting safety for the draft. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
With so many CBs available and not many signings or apparent demand for them...this might play into our favor if their prices do down as we get closer to the season and they don't have new deals with new teams.
We should be able to afford a couple quality CBs. The same thing happening at tackle too? Jake Long, Winston, Clady, Albert, Vollmer, Smith...not signed. |

I get that you can develop 2nd rounders or later into quality starters, but almost never do they come out first year and do extremely well. |

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Good drafting and player development is what we need, not more FA signings.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Time to pull out of the talib sweepstakes and look at some more realistic and affordable options. Lets get a couple minor restructures done to re-sign Fred, Pac Man Jones at CB, a Cory Lynch or other similar player at FS, and Justin Forsett at RB. Probably could do this all for 5 million and then concentrate on the draft.

To be perfectly honest, I would rather have Talib. |

Yeah Bill B doesn't know anything about DBs.. (he's won 3 SBs)

While I would like both Fred and Talib, neither is a future cornerstone (though I think both have some possibility to be one IF things go right). |

So let me get this straight, you would rather have Pac Man jones over D Hall? Lol They don't even compare to one another . PAC MAN is a clown and a fake gangster off of the field not to mention he's not even a good Corner on the field. Smh |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
if Talib stays in N.E. I wonder the likelihood, if no interest from other teams, we bring hall back for cheap.
tweeted Shef to try and get an answer on his opinion of this also... |

Smh
Pac Man coming off a solid season, he is better in coverage than Hall these days. I think a 1 year deal would be good value. Let him and Josh Wilson play and challege each other for possible extention with the Skins. At the sametime draft a CB with one of our 1st 3 picks...I like that better than pushing alot of contracts down the line on top of a 30+ million contract for Talib. Skins shouldnt follow our U.S. economy's trend of moving massive amounts of debt down the road and spending on top of it compounding the issue... |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
whats your guess of the final Talib contract?
3 yrs 12-15 mill idk |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
whats your guess of the final Talib contract?
I would say he will get anywhere from a 3-5 yr deal with an average of 5mil/yr. Gaurentees in a range that goes from 8-11 mil depending on length |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
winfield, cason, talib still out there (among others). I'd still like fred back too. and i'd love vollmer, but i assume we probably won't want to push that much debt to grab 3 players.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Per ESPN, Keller signs with the Dolphins on a 1 year.

Keller could only get a year due to injury concerns, so maybe everyone is offering Freddy a one or two year as well? |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
3 yrs 12-15 mill idk
Im think more in the 6-7 mil a year range. 5 for 30, 4 for 24...if he goes for a 3 for 15 id be shocked unless the entire amount is guarenteeed. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
3 yrs $17M for Talib.
I'm totally stealing that from someone but it sounds like a good guess. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
New England has retained Kyle Arrington.
Wonder how that affects their Talib negotiations. Kyle Arrington - New England Patriots - 2013 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com |

But Pac Man was responsible for a man losing his ability to walk. No thanks. |
3 yrs $17M for Talib.
I'm totally stealing that from someone but it sounds like a good guess.
For that money we could have had one of the CB's who have already been taken. Toler signed for 3/$15 mil., for example. While Talib has undeniable talent, he has decidedly mediocre numbers and is a legendary miscreant besides. I pray that we don't squander so much of our cap on him when we could have had a good performing/good character guy for the same or less. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013
Dear God, I'm losing it here. We need to make a FA move... After winning so many offseasons, I feel like a crack fiend going through withdraw!

I know what you mean. However, I am cool either way. If we are able to clear enough cap room to sign a couple guys to help right away, I'm good. If we just wait and hopefully draft a couple impact players and some quality depth, I'm good too. |
