Me too, he's terrible
I don't see that. Our secondary needs safeties. We get a couple of good safeties, and the play of both hall and wilson should be noticibly better. Adding Orakpo and Carricker back into the front seven should increase the pressure on the QB which in turn will increase both Hall and Wilson's ability to make plays. When the QB and WR has 5+ seconds to make a play it become difficult for any CB to be able to be successful.

This, and assuming BM or Tanard Jackson comes back (healthy, etc.) we only need one more starting caliber safety to improve the secondary a good bit. Cornerback is the 3rd biggest need (and probably tied with two other positions) behind safety and right tackle.

I thought they'd adjust his contract to give us some cap relief. A release wouldn't totally surprise me though

I have been waiting for an extension for Wilson honestly. Free up a couple of bucks and bring JW back for 2-3 years

I don't see RT as a need since we got Pashos.

I agree that one good safety will improve the secondary dramatically. Just having Meriweather back will help.

As for corner, meh, not too worried. If we get Winfield, great, if not we can get a good corner in the draft, even if not an immediate starter.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the current team. After all, we did win the division last year, and IMO, we're already improved; signing Pashos, Biggers, getting several key players back from injury, having RG3 and Morris a year older and more experienced. Once the draft is over and we have another good group of rookies, I can see us making a run to the NFC Championship.

Coming off a pretty serious injury I'm not sure we can count on Pashos for much of anything until we get a good look at him on the field. I would guess the front office feels the same way otherwise why did we re-sign Polumbus along with bringing in Trueblood?

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II

Pat Kirwan called Trueblood and Pashos, along with Polumbo three versions of the same guy. He called them all "Turn Styles". I like Kirwan, he seems to know allot about talent. Last year he said we would regret having Madieu playing saftey and he was right. He also said E.J. Biggers was not going to help us, or be a good player. This one I hope he is wrong about.

Now Trueblood, there's someone to be sarcastic about. I don't get the point of signing him, unless it's just for competition in camp and preseason.

Trueblood has had a much better career than Pashos.

Wonder how this bodes for Neild. I am a huge Neild fan, so I'm hoping he doesn't get cut.

I like Neild too, if anything for the good story - 7th round pick who gets 1.5 sacks on his first start.. Also got to love the beard.

But best man wins. Also, Brace is in the mix, the 2nd round pick who's underachieved. Figure where you're drafted shows talent, and where you end up shows work ethic, but hoping one of these guys flashes talent for us.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II

They were high on Nield in year two if I remember correctly. Honestly having him turn into a true NT and rotating Cofield,
Bowen, Carricker, and Jenkins at end could really generate that pass rush we have been looking for.

Of course with Nield he will probably take another year to really start performing. Seems like Jenkins was finally starting to come on at the end of the year. I think we will see him take that next step this year.

Neild is the pass rushing NT; Chris Baker is the run stuffing NT. It sucks that both are good at the opposites weakness. If we combined them, you'd be looking at Chris Beild, the best NT in the NFL. But we can't so we're stuck with 2 average backups with one of them going to be cut and never heard about again.

JoeRedskin 04-11-2013 06:33 AM

Since when is Nield a "pass rushing" NT? He is and was a classic space eater NT.

Coming out of WVU, the knock on him in the scouting reports was that he was too much of a one dimensional immovable, run stuffer who didn't create pressure or push the pocket. In the couple of games he played, and from what I saw, that seemed like a pretty fair assessment.

Darn it ,thought we a a really good chance of getting winfield, with that said here are two thoughts 1) is there any other fa corner that can help us for a minnimal rate that is fairly good and 2) damm seattle is going to be loaded

Winfield is the only aged corner I would be willing to sign. Woodson has always been to slow for me, ands now that he's older he's slowed down even more. On top of that he's not producing like he used to. Last year he played in 7 games and had only 25 tackles with 1 INT. No thanks.

I would like Charles Woodson here as well. Young players have flourished with him around players like Nnamdi in Oakland, Casey Hayward and Sam Shields in Greenbay. He could be a good mentor like Sanders and Green was to Champ early in his career in Washington.

I thought he actually did ok as a rusher. I seem to remember him getting 2 sacks against the Giants his rookie year, opening day.

I remember watching him play preseason and regular season and he was very movable, but when it was a passing down he had good moves to create pressure. College is one thing; NFL is a different game. Its what I see when I scout him, and as the previous comment said, he had 1.5 sacks against the giants.

JoeRedskin 04-14-2013 06:53 PM

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II

He had 1.5 sacks against the giants in the opener and then .5 in the second game and 0 for the rest of the next 14 games.

We clearly saw very different players. I saw a guy who had decent, not great push and was very good in a small area but was simply not mobile, didn't shoot gaps and was not particularly athletic. When I watched, I saw very little "movable" about him. I had watched clips of his college play and his pro play looked very similar to those clips.

Not saying you didn't see what you saw, but I really liked him coming out and was watching him close every time I could.

skinsfaninok 04-14-2013 10:35 PM

I have neighbors that moved here from VA about a year ago. The woman is a skins fan and the dude is a panthers fan, but he literally hates the redskins, born and raised in VA and hates them. He said there are more Dallas fans in DC than skins fans. Why is it that the skins don't get much love back home? Is it Dan? I'm just curious, now it kinda makes sense to not have a true home field advantage.

For one, your friend who hates the skins is wrong.

Maybe he thinks theres more cowboys fans, but that may stick out to him because he isn't looking for skins fans.

Theres cowboys fans here, don't get me wrong. But they really are the people who A) hate seeing a majority of people around them being overly happy or overly sad for 16 weeks, so they want to be different (whether to annoy or just be different or both) or B) the people who were once redskin fans but since snyder came and all those bad years, they just want to pick a new team and Dallas is not just their 'old' teams rival but their games get shown constantly here in the DMV

Now why they're aren't a few less cowboys fans and a few more Ravens fans, I don't know.

And yes, Dan Snyder has a lot to do with the reason our franchise went down the crapper for many years and causing redskin fans to turn in their fan cards.

artmonkforhallofamein07 04-15-2013 12:12 AM

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II

I have been a Redskins fan for years. When I lived up there there were a ton of fans. Yes there are cowboy fans, but the majority is still Skins. The season ticket holders are from all over the DMV and there are a bunch in WV.

If the team is competitive like it was this year there will be more games that look like the Dallas game and the playoff game. People who have turned in thier fan cards will be rushing back.

The team is set to have a big hometown advantage again with III in the building. Trust me the fans want to go to the games but when you are terrible for years at at a time people don't want to spend the jack to go and watch them lose or to watch a 17-13 game.

I go but I also don't get to go to every home game so when there is a chance I am going to go.
