Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
Darren Sproiles would be a nice addition to our backfield as well as the return game. We showed interest with MS around. Without a Giovanni Bernard on the roster Gruden may like this guy. If we could add a WR and Sproiles it would give us some excitement to our offense.
But we have so many needs I just want to see what the FO had planned to turn over this roster. Link to his release per the ST thread Darren Sproles to be released by New Orleans Saints - NFL.com |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
why would we add sproles, who is probably looking to get alot more than we are willing to pay for a return man. Our running game is top 5 in the NFL, we just need to find a returner with a bit of vision who can hold on to the ball. Plus, what has that guy really done running the ball since 2010 or 2011? Not much. The guy is more receiver than a running back. Not really what we need, another small receiver who's stats are inflated due to checkdowns.
Plus, after looking at his stats, his kickoff returns the previous 2 years average just over 21 yards.........not really the gamechanger I'm sure he would want to get paid like, plus, in 9 seasons, he only has 3 PR TD's, and is on the wrong side of 30. PASS. |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
I'm pretty surprised that the effective part of Sproles' career lasted this long, actually. I really liked Darren Sproles coming out of K-State, but I wasn't sure any team would fine a role for him. I was pleasantly surprised when not just one, but two organizations turned him into a viable fantasy football option.

Unless he was going 3/4 speed on routes to get out of New York. In which case, I wouldn't bring him here. |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
I hope it is smoke. I don't want to pay Nicks what he wants nor do I think he has shown much the last two years .

If we signed him, I think the primary reason would be to add a legit returner. Sure, he's not Cordarelle Patterson, but he'd be better than any KR we've had in a long time. I think his contributions on offense would be viewed as merely a bonus. Report: Zero chance Hakeem Nicks returns to Giants by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com There's a zero percent chance the Giants will re-sign impending free agent Hakeem Nicks, according to The Star-Ledger. Nicks, who did not score a touchdown in 2013, "appeared to be disinterested this season," the paper added. "His main goal seemed to be staying healthy instead of putting forth a maximum effort." Not a flattering assessment of Nicks. Jenkins is OK, I guess. I'm not excited about either of them. |

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
Redskins are interested in DL Arthur Jones according to Aaron Wilson
|
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
120 tackles and 8.5 sacks since being drafted in 2010. He is only 26, and has been productive tackler but doesn't create the pressure yet consistently. Good prospect but hopefully at a mid tier price.
Have to add that getting Joseph and Jones would be big upgrades for our DL. We could afford Joseph by cutting Bowen. Jones would be a nice piece to go along with Cofield, Jenkins, Joseph, and Baker. With those DL men it would give us flexibility with the DL and NT. Something we haven't had. Then it has to be answered do we get rid of Nield or Gholston? |

Randy Starks too. Lot of just talking right now though

Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
The NY Daily News reports free agent CB Alterraun Verner "isn't planning any visits," and intends to sign with a team "shortly after the market opens" on Tuesday. It's possible he already has a deal in place with a team. The Redskins, Giants, Rams, Jets, and Vikings are among the clubs known to have interest in Verner.
The Baltimore Sun reports free agent DE Arthur Jones has drawn interest from the Titans, Giants, Redskins, and Vikings this weekend. The Charlotte Observer reports the Redskins and Eagles are showing the "most interest" in free agent FS Mike Mitchell. The Redskins have expressed interest in Aqib Talib and Anthony Collins, per Mike Jones, Washington Post. |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
Talib would be a big mistake, he wants $8-$10 million a year in a long term contract. The only way the Redskins can afford that is to give him a big signing bonus, and back load his contract. It might cost $4 or 5$ million the first year, and escalate in years 2 -5. Eventually he would be to expensive, and be cut, leaving dead cap money.
Talib is a good player, but not worth close to $10 million a year. |

Kinda hope we lean Clemons or Jenkins over Mitchell.
What is more likely, tanard Jackson returns to the skins for another shot or Rak is traded? |

Alterraun Verner is my favorite FA. I'd rather sign him than Byrd or Talib by a long shot. |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
The Washington Post confirms the Redskins have "expressed interest" in free agent CB Aqib Talib.
There are many connections for Talib in D.C.; DBs coach Raheem Morris was his head coach in Tampa Bay, and GM Bruce Allen drafted Talib when Allen was the Buccaneers' GM in 2008. Per the Post, Talib is "believed to be seeking a contract that would pay him $9 million to $10 million a season." A league insider told the paper the Redskins want to "make a statement at DB" this offseason. I bolded the last sentence. I assume that they want to make a different statement at DB than the one they made last season. If the Skins sign Talib, I'll be OK with it. Most of us know the arguments against it, but we also know that he is a true #1 corner. He can cover most #1 receivers one-on-one and virtually take them out of the game. If the Skins add Talib and a solid FS who has good range, we should be much improved in the secondary. Plan B could be to add Talib, move DHall to FS, start Amerson at the other corner, play Crawford in the slot and start Thomas at SS. That might work, too. I wonder: Is it possible that the Skins are printing cap money in the basement at Redskins Park? |
Re: Current 2014 Free Agents
I would pass on both of those WR.
Agreed. I'd be happy signing Andre Roberts, though, along with resigning Moss for 1 year and drafting a WR in the 2nd or 3rd round. Garcon, Roberts, a healthy Hankerson, an improved Robinson, and either Moss or the rookie in the slot would be a fairly significant upgrade, while leaving money for the defense and O-line. And if we would sign Andrew Quarless to pair with a healthy Reed, that would upgrade the receiving corps, again, without spending big money, and without paying question marks like Hakeem Nicks, Kenny Britt, or Eric Decker. With Hankerson and Reed being injury question marks, and with having more important needs elsewhere, my philosophy would be to sign solid FA WRs like Roberts. Stay away from big money and uncertainty. |
