Yeah you're reading too much into it. Jay doesn't get to make the decision, Bruce does.
Jay has already told Bruce that he likes Cousins. Doesn't mean Bruce is going to make a $30M offer.
But has a HC doesn't he get to know a little bit of what's the plan? I keep seeing a reference to something Cooley heard behind closed doors or a theory of his based on Jay's comments. Could someone enlighten me as to this, I can't find it anywhere.

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
What's your point?
My point is that I don't think the last offer to Kirk by the Skins was a good one because it had no chance of being accepted based on the knowledge the Skins acquired in past negotiations with Kirk's agent. If they want to franchise him, they should just do it. If they don't want him, they should just let him sign elsewhere. The only purpose I can see to making him an offer that they know he won't accept is to mollify the ticket holders, as in "We tried". p.s. My thoughts on this are based on my low regard for how the FO has handled this up to now. I don't foresee the FO suddenly making a competitive offer for his services. If they're not able to read the marketplace, or they are in their own fantasy world about what it will take to sign him, or they just want to look good to the ticket holders, or they just don't give a damn whether he signs or not, then they are just wasting their time preparing an offer. |

They should make the highest offer they feel comfortable making. If he's not interested, then he leaves. That's business. Franchise tag should be off the table. $34M for one season, only to be back in this same predicament next year, makes no sense. He's shown that he'll just sign it immediately and then shut down negotiations until he's through playing under it. Once you tag him, he won't negotiate with you. |

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
I think that's an incorrect interpretation. The coach DOES have input into decision making and long term planning, but it's not entirely up to him (like with most teams in the NFL) and it's the front office that handles the negotiations, not the coach (like with most teams in the NFL). It's entirely incorrect to say the coach has no say as to who plays QB for him. |

Don't overreact to incorrect interpretations. Just listen to what Cooley said. Skins fan in OK should take that instragram thing down. We don't even know who wrote that. Could be his fucking cousin. |
Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
Yeah but the HC should get a good feel on if his QB will return or not... Or even be wanted back

You don't seem to recall when McCloughan was canned last year, Gruden was brought into pre-draft interviews at the combine because his opinion was valued. I don't think he's cut out of the process. And just because he didn't tell Cooley doesn't mean he's not kept in the loop. |

And the answer to that is NO, which BA and DS both know they cant pay Kirk 30M and have a team around him to compete for a SB next yr or maybe even the next few years. Look at Det and Indy, both teams are EH, ok teams but wont be able to sign any big help in the OS. The Saints have already basically said they cant give DB a raise due to their cap structure. So you either roll the dice on 30M and avg players around Kirk, mainly on Offense (like this yr), and hope draft picks become stars. Or you let him go elsewhere, get what u can for him if possible and roll with a cheaper option (Alex Smith, Baker Mayfield, etc.) Heck the Packers cant even field a solid Defense through F/A and that is with AROD making 22M a yr. The 2018 Salary cap is expected to be at 178,000,000
That is 178 million. I guess if you have some of the high priced turds we have ...... |

It’s definitely a stretch to say paying Kirk means we can’t build a competitive team around him.

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
I just don't understand why they wait until March. The season is fucking over with. Get a conversation started and get the ball rolling, now. This last minute bullshit is not the way to do a deal at all. It's total dysfunction on so many levels. Since the Redskins have totally mismanaged this they should send his agent a contract and had it ready when the season ended. That way everyone knows they're serious. If he rejects it then move on and be done with one another. Try and trade him so you get some value for your QB. Why continue to drag this mess out until the deadline?

Good points made by Bucky Brooks using The Ravens and Joe Flacco’s contract.

I highly doubt he's getting that much. Not here and probably not anywhere else. His play hasn't warranted that kind of pay. He's been good, not great. |

The 2 local morning sports guys here in Houston{Lance Zeirlein-who father either is or has been line coach for a few nfl teams}were discussing Cousins contract, they said let him walk, too much money, also compared it to the Flacco situation like Bucky Brooks

The season doesn’t end until after the SB so I don’t think he can even sign until then.

Re: Cousins Saga 4.0. Is he done in DC?
I just had a flashback to the 2014 nfl draft when we sent our second round pick to Dallas so they can draft Demarcus Lawrence and we picked up Trent Murphy and Spencer long with their 2nd and 3rd.
We better pay the guys that have proven they can play. I don’t trust our talent evaluators. |

Maybe he deserved to be fired and maybe he needed to be kept out of the building but they shouldn't have fired him for cause. Instead, they should have made him a special deal. They should have set him up with a plush office in his house with everything he needed to watch film and evaluate talent. The office should have had a fully stocked wet bar and Scot could have sat there in his bathrobe drinking booze and setting up our draft board and Free Agent target list. That's why the Skins need me to advise them when they require creative solutions to complex problems. |

I think with his shaky play down the stretch of the last two seasons combined with the trade and play of Garoppolo, emergence of Goff, and Keenum, plus this year's QB class, drop Kirk's value. Mid last year he probably could have got close to $30 mil a year from someone, I think that number is now dropped to around $25 mil, we will see. |
