I prefer MacDonald, but for this franchise to get the pick of the top OC / DC for HC is a terrific dilemma to have. |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Macdonald had a good day too ; he shut KC down in the 2nd half
I prefer Ben |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Macdonald meeting with Harris, Peters and others tomorrow night per Keim.
Other meetings include: Weaver ? Quinn Glenn Johnson |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Is there any chance Johnson stays with Detroit again this year if he feels they are just a play away from the SB (assuming they lose today) or from winning the SB. Or is it a lock that he leaves?
|
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Looks like we will know our coach this week.

Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
If Ben Johnson is the guy hope he doesn't have any of the stupidity that Campbell has.

I think he has some of it... |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Was that Brandon Staley in a Dan Campbell costume out there in the second half?
There's aggressive, and then there's stupid... |

I guess we will know our coach soon

Welcome Ben Johnson

Id fire Campbell today and give the job to Johnson. Wow. What a moron. |

That actually would be the best thing the Lions could do. They won't given the success this year, but Campbell has clearly demonstrated in multiple games extremely poor decision making that caused them to lose those games. |

And a disappointment. |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Johnson will 100% target a TE in the draft or FA..His offense very rarely has a 0 personel for TE.
|
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Interview schedule:
@BenStandig Busy 48 hours ahead for the Commanders. The in person interview schedule: Today - Anthony Weaver, Mike Macdonald Tue - Dan Quinn; Aaron Glenn, Ben Johnson in DET |

Believe me MacDonald wouldn’t be a disappointment. I’m sure it will be BJ. |

JaTavion Sanders and Cade Stover are on my radar for that |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Could this be a clue as to who they might hire as an OC? There’s been a lot of talk about him being the next offensive guru. Went to Seneca Valley HS and is from Germantown, MD, Towson alumni. https://x.com/jpfinlaynbcs/status/1752108797944832511?s=46&t=PLCFppIcPjVVwlav8ILf0Q

Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Competence >>>>> "Leadership"
Rivera was a "leader". But he was absolutely incompetent.
Was he though? Why did the team quit? Allens comments? Never, ever came out of the gates ready to go? Always throwing others under the bus? I am stunned at the fact he is getting interviews about being a DC. How do they go down? So Ron we were really impressed with that one game where your defense allowed under 500 total yards….. |

Can't blame Rivera for that too...oh wait... And those quotation marks were very purposeful. He constantly threw his players under the bus. He was simply the last relic of shithead. I still want Macdonald. |

Not gonna be disappointed with anyone that isn't Dan Quinn

I just don't see Quinn being the choice. It's Johnson or Macdonald. |

I was reading somewhere that the thoughts were mimicking the McVay-Wade Phillips relationship in LA at the start of McVay's tenure. That's one of the reasons I was thinking he was interviewing for something other than HC maybe DC/asst HC. |

Dan Quinn is a highly sought after HC candidate, I doubt he'd make a lateral move. Also, he'd likely be gone next year even if that's the case. People forget what disorganized mess was the Cowboys defense, until Quinn came in and fixed them. And not just the Xs and Os but bringing discipline to that unit. I'm not specifically rooting for Quinn, but I'd be fine if Peters selects him to be the HC. I don't get why people get their undies in a bunch about him. Quinn/MacDonald/Johnson would all be good selections. |

Great minds think alike. I was pondering the thought that the Commanders might want to have a DC/Asst HC mentor for Johnson, if he becomes the HC. I wonder if Quinn and Aaron Glenn are still in the picture for that reason. The Commanders may just feel both of them out on that idea today if they want to go with a younger candidate. I've been following some Seahawks news and their local writers think that either Johnson or MacDonald will be their choice for HC. They say that it's close between those two. If Seattle ends up with MacDonald and we hire Johnson, then the scenario you presented might be the optimum way for the Commanders to go forward for a season or two. If they do, either Quinn or Glenn would be fine with me. |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Keim's latest podcast does a good overview of all the candidates that are not Ben Johnson. Very good listen.

Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
If we go with Johnson this guy may be someone to consider at DC
Tom Pelissero The #Packers requested to interview #Ravens ILB coach Zach Orr for Green Bay’s defensive coordinator position, per source. Orr is a former Ravens LB who is projected as a DC very soon. Orr has been a close lieutenant to Mike Macdonald in Baltimore
. |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
Kinda getting tired and burned out of all of the coaching talk. Just hire a guy already and get going.

It’s 1,000 percent Ben Johnson. |
Re: Potential GM/HC/Coaches Thread
I have nothing against MacDonald. Will be a really good HC but we are going to draft a quarterback and if that is the most important player on a team, than I want the guy who made Goff finally look like a stud.

Johnson is still only 37 and will be a hot head coaching candidate again next year. But first, he wants to take another shot at bringing a Lombardi Trophy to Detroit. |
