the hypocrisy will never be acknowledged, not worth fighting over.

that said, Things I am sure of if Bush were in office:

- Daily stories of Bush's ties to the oil company's would be normal

- Green Activists would have been blasting the White House's drilling policies

- Hollywood would have been heavily involved in the story.

- The one director would have made a movie about the White House and Big Oil

- The Government's response would have been aggressively attacked and human/animal suffering stories would have been lead stories 2 out of every 3 nights.


That these would have been valid is not my point, it's that the media blatantly shields it's favored politicians, and actively lambasts those who they hate. (and yes they clearly hated Bush)

The problem really lies with BP. The gap between them and other oil companies when it comes to safety violations is astounding. I think it's like a 700 violations gap between BP at #1 and Sunoco (with fewer than 10 in the past three years, which is 10 too many of course)

Is it? I strongly disagree. Where the blame falls has nothing to do with the fact that this disaster is devastating families, wildlife, and the fishing industry. There is an entire eco-system and plenty of families that need or will soon need a lot of help.

Funny how they have to throw Palin and McCain into that article. First off Palin is not in office so we cannot judge her because we don't know what her response would have been. As Governor of Alaska Palin actually went after big oil to get a cut of the oil profits comming out of Alaska.

Your numbers are right. In the last 3 years, BP had 760 Violations, and not just the technical kind. The guy on TV last night said that all of those violations involved a physical danger, or something being done wrong that could bring about injury, death, or environmental damage. By comparison, Exxon, who had the worst spill prior to BP, had only ONE violation in the same time frame...

Again, that's BP's problem and financial responsibility.

The difference is pretty clear to me.

I can't speak for what George Clooney is doing, but there are other celebs leading fundraising efforts.

What's $ 90M to BP, it would cost them more to fix the violations. I'm not arguing it's right, I'm just stating what is.

MMS enforcement could've shut them down but their enforcement efforts are suspect at best, grossly and intentionally negligent at worst.
