Good article. I can't say it enough. I can't wait for Griffin to be back, but I think I hope he starts the season on the PUP list. I really want him and the coaches to be absolutely confident the knee is as good as its gonna get. |

I wouldn't bet against him making back in time for training camp either. All depends on if he can avoid having any setbacks along the way. |

Worst case scenario: RG3 can still play quarterback and his mobile, but can no longer outrun defenses 80 yards for touchdowns... We can only hope that his knee can get back to mint condition. |
Re: RGIII undergoing total reconstructive surgery: out 6-8 months
Would anyones opinion on when RGIII should come back vary based on Kirk Cousins performance?
For example, if we start 0-3, Cousins doesnt look good, and RGIII is cleared to play, but still not moving as quickly as he has in the past, would you want him to come in, wear a brace, and pretty much be a pocket passer? On the flip side, lets say RGIIIs recovery is slower than expected. Lets say we start the season 8-0, Cousins looks awesome, and the offense is in a clicking. Do you bench Cousins and let RGIII take his job back, or do you rest him for the remainder of the season so he comes back completely fresh in 2014? |

If we are 8-0 with Cousins, I say give RG3 another season to rest that knee ;) No matter what the situation, we cant bring RG3 back until he is really 100% I'll take it a bit further, if Cousins brings us into the playoffs, then trade RG3. |

I'm a fan of the time period it takes for him to get back to 100%, explosive, track athlete playmaker. Nothing less. He's far too valuable to risk any further. If he starts the season on PUP, so be it. Kirk can play at a high level if he's getting regular reps with the 1st teamers during the offseason and has a healthy Garcon, Fred Davis, etc to throw to. Whatever scenario gives us back the pre-injury RGIII, that's the scenario I'm pulling for. |

he's got the fear
I got it.... Trade all our best players so we can avoid any hope of success. Better consistent failure than occasional success. |

he's got the fear
You are right and I thank you for seeing my point. I do fear the injury and would rather play it safe with Cousins. Keep in mind that the question by BHA was hypothetical and my answer is as well, and it 100% hinges on Cousins success. |

They'd want Cousins. He would be cheaper to acquire and come with less question marks. In contrast, RG3 would be very expensive to trade for and he's already proven to be a constant injury concern. Even when he comes back, you're always going to be worried and theres no evidence to beleive he will ever last an entire NFL season. its much easier for a player like RG3 to withstand a 12 game college season vs. an NFL season where he's exposed to contact in 19-24 games (if you include normal pre-season work and a potential superbowl run). Its noteworthy that RGIII suffered his knee injury in week 15. It was the 17th game RGIII played in this year, 4 games more than he'd ever played in a college season. RGIII is very muscular and athletic, but his body frame is pretty lanky and his previous injuries mean he will be more succeptable to re-injurying his knees. After what we've seen in his first NFL season, its hard to have any confidence that his body can withstand the rigors of an NFL season. RGIIIs knees just might not be able to handle all the running, flexing, cutting, etc. that he makes in 19+ games. |
Re: RGIII undergoing total reconstructive surgery: out 6-8 months
RG3's knee accident was a a freakish accident that would have screwed up anyone. I don't think it has anything to do with his frame or his ability to play more than 12 games.
I don't understand why people don't chill the F out and just wait and see what happens next season with RG3's recovery and Cousins' ability to play. I know we'd like to speculate, but I think we are bordering on pulling things out of our asses with these speculations. |
