Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Gameday thread
Late byes are a much bigger disadvantage than anyone realizes. You spend all of October and November playing teams that are coming off byes, or have recently had their bye. With that said, this team went 2-2 against teams that already had their bye, and that's pretty good.
We got our asses crushed tonight. Once that homefield advantage wore off in the first quarter, they killed us on both sides of the ball. Blache called an awful game, but with the way the offensive line played, it probably doesn't matter. We got outplayed and outcoached, but it is what it is. The game doesn't mean anything in terms of tiebreakers, and if we go out and kill Dallas, everyone forgets this one. It's going to be well in the past by the next time we play. The only thing we have to fix is on the offensive line, and it's the same issues we had in the last four games. Totally unblocked guys coming through on the quarterback are completely unacceptable for an offense as strong as us. Jon Jansen can't play tackle in the NFL anymore. We have to stop pretending like he can. He's a utility lineman at this point. Stephon Heyer should start at RT. Casey Rabach probably shouldn't be playing in the NFL because he can't read blitz packages at all. I feel bad for poor Randy Thomas, stuck between those two against the pass, theres just no winning. Samuels, I feel, didn't play all that bad. The holding calls were likely a direct result of his lack of mobility, but when you start talking about weak links, Samuels is about 7th on the list for the offense tonight. We have two gaping holes on the offensive line. And like pretty much every QB, Campbell is inaccurate when he gets rattled. Also: Steelers are way better with Leftwich at QB than Roethlisberger. That's no mistake. Ben takes sacks, Byron throws the football. That's the difference. If they can protect Ben, he's great, but this Steelers team is better with Leftwich, who was amazing tonight. |
What a fucking mess. Ugh, disgusting. We better figure out how to score some damn touchdowns or there won't be any playoffs this year. That game was basically a shutout. Pitt gave us the 6 pts early with the onsides kick and the pick. Most disgusted I've felt in a while.
LVP (Least Valuable Players) Devin Thomas- ok, so Moss is out and you show us... absolutely... nothing. Great job. Oline- Really, blocking, its still legal. Secondary- How about covering someone (anyone?) on third down.
I disagree about the Secondary - Blache put them on an island by blitzing all night. I'm more pissed about the Rogers drop than with the overall secondary coverage. |
Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Gameday thread
It pissed me off so much seeing that many Steelers fans in our own damn home. I was completely embarressed, especially when the Skins were on offense and it was loud enough to be an away game. Not to mention hearing loud cheers when the Steelers had good plays.
Tonight was a bad game. 7 sacks? I don't think I've seen that many since the Spurrier days, and I can't even pinpoint one game from that time period. I think it just goes to show we still have work to do on offense, our defense played good ball but they couldn't keep the Steelers out the end zone and the end result was that. |

Two big plays...well three big plays given up by the secondary...the PI on Ward, giving Santonio Holmes like 10 yds of space by the endzone, and Rogers dropping that INT. |

Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Gameday thread
what pissed me more is our deffense playing their hearts out in the whole game and our offense continues to struggle! So damn irratating
|
Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Gameday thread
We got beat by the best defence in the league. We have played 9 regular season games in a row, and then add the 5 preseason games. It is all good. If someone said wew ould be 6-3 going into the bye I would be totally pumped. We will hopefully get Taylor and Springs back heathly and others that are nicked up. So come one Skisn fans, we are looking good to make the playoffs and possibly win the division. Also we alsways win the Superbowl after the Giants do so, keep your head up and your chest out cause we are going to kill Dallas in two weeks.
Hail to the Redskins!!!!!! |

I have to agree with you for the most part. When all of our cylinders are working, we are a rather solid team, but we are banged up, and with an offensive system that isn't conducive to scoring for us for some reason. Right now, I can envision us at 9-7 or 8-8. |
Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Gameday thread
One thing is very apparent, and this is a "west coast" thing, I think. If we do not get any rhythm, we look horrid. Sure, Pitt's D took us out of lots of things, but we need to find ways to get moving when the first options are not working.
Look, we're 6-3 at the bye, and I'm sure everyone on this board would have been totally psyched about that coming into the year. We've got some soft road games we must win: Seattle, Cincy, and SF. If we do that, we're at 9 wins. Then just one more win: Philly, Dallas, NY at home, Raisins in baldamore. I think 10 wins will get us a WC. Of course, we should win those NFC Easties at home as well. And fuck the Raisins! But even if we stumble there, we've got winnable games. ANd yes, I know. We lost to the Rams and we barely beat the brownies and the Lions. But we got 6 wins out of a VERY tough first half + 1. Now, recharge, regroup, and GET IT DONE! Hail from Houston. |
Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Gameday thread
yeah i know we shouldnt be down but our offense continues to be ineffecient. we cant have our D and running game the only ones doing anything. special teams and passing needs to inprove.

Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Gameday thread
I honestly thought this game would be very easy *IF* we could find a way to protect the QB. We didn't, and it wasn't.
And of course, Leftwich's play was not something I accounted for. Without him, we probably come back in the second half of that game. That move alone is the entire difference between the Steelers organization and the Cowboys organization. It encapsulizes why, despite considerable injury to both teams, Pittsburgh is a top 5 team, and the Cowboys might be a Top 25 team on a good day. |
Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Gameday thread
Just goes to show how imporatant depth is, that's all. If the Cowboys had good depth they would've kept rolling when Romo went down, instead they had Brad Johnson and that's part of why they aren't looking good.

Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Gameday thread
Maybe I just still don't know anything but...
What is so inherittely wrong with our passing game other than we never really give it much of a shot because our running game is so good? Zorn seems to love quarterbacks so much he was about to bloody propose to Cambell tonight when he called the time out. he has deffinitely worked him and it seems to have paid off in some respects. Moss looks good (though broken at the monet. But heck did you see pittsburg's special teams? They looked like amputated vietnam vets). cooley looks good. I'd say we aren't blocking but sacking doesn't LOOK like a consistent problem to me....What is it? |

Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Gameday thread
the only thing good about this game was the guitar hero commercial with the girl dancing.
|
Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Gameday thread
Just got in from the return trip. Not to much fun on the trip home. It looked fairly promising in the first quarter, all down hill after that.
The team just looked like shit. The o-line was gosh awful. The defense hung in there until the second half then well they looked like shit to. Bad showing. To many of those shit head fucking steeler fans at FedEx! Ok....time for the bye this team needs a rest and they also need to return for the pukes game ready to make some adjustments and play football for 60 minutes! THE END |

it wasnt just you... i was just waitin for part 3 or i would of turned the game off.

i'd rather have a game like this now,as opposed to later.this was bound to catch up with us.maybe having such a shitty game is a blessing in disguise!

Are you serious? We'll come back healthy after the bye and it will make a big difference, All our road games besides baltimore are gimmes(in theory) Still don't think dallas can beat us and not sold on philly, We win 10 at least. |
Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Gameday thread
No need to panic after this game. Would it have been nice to have won, sure. However the fact we are 6-3 at this point I most happy about. You got to hand it to the Steelers their D was beast last night.
Glad we have a BYE, you can tell we need it. |
Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Gameday thread
upon further review,it does'nt matter if we win the division or are a wildcard team.the skins can play with anybody anywhere.sometimes all you need is a good swift kick in the ass to get you going,we got that last nite.we'll be okay,it ain't like we play awful on the road is it?

Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Gameday thread
The Steelers put on one of the most impressive defensive games I have EVER seen.
Campbell was getting hit on every play! Portis...51 yards! They even blocked a punt. First interceptions of the year for JC. Wow. Great game, Steelers. |
Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Gameday thread
Hard to quibble with the fact that the Steelers played a solid game defensively. I cannot understand why we kept blitzing Letfwich on 3rd and long when he kept burning us. Drop into coverage and play the pass; don't go for the sack. It worked against Roethlisburger but not agaist Leftwich. That killed us.
Having said that, our D was very good, and we asked way too much of them as a result of not being able to sustain drives. We cannot have the kind of field position that we got in the first quarter and fail to score a TD against a team with a D like the Steelers like that and hope to win. JC didn't look sharp at all -- even the very best QBs will have a game like that, so no need to panic. But at one point when they showed the stats for hurried, knocked down, sacked, INTs, and number of pass plays, I noticed it was something over 50% of the time he was being smacked around. I hope our O-line was embarassed and pulls it together in the second half of the season. The only solid effort I thought was Randy Thomas (who in my view is completely unheralded and deserving of mention). |

Cincy deserved to beat the Giants in NY, and they gave Dallas a scare in Texas. I wouldn't call that, or any other game a gimme at this point.

If we could time our blitzes as well as they do, they probably don't score on us all game. |
Re: Redskins vs. Steelers Gameday thread
i don't know, I think these past few weeks have really taken some of my optimism. I started out the year thinking we'd be lucky to go .500, then with our success, my expectations got to he 10-6, 11-5 range. Now i'm slowly starting to worry about a second half drop off, possibly finishing out 8-8 or 9-7 and missing the playoffs.

I know there were a few folks that were annoyed with Toyota's "saved by zero" commercials during the game. Well, you are not the only ones:
