Re: 2013 Free Agents
The redskins ARE cap-strapped. They are around 3 million over and haven't even re-signed any of their own several free-agents yet. And on top of that they need to sign their draft picks. There's been a number of $13 million thrown out there that they need to free up by restructuring existing contracts or by cuts - just to achieve this.
All of this before even thinking about signing free agents that are coming from other teams. So that's $13 million plus the cap-hit this year for any additional free agents that they would want to sign.
Yes, I know their cap situation well. They will sign at least one expensive free agent. Along with Fred Davis and Lorenzo Alexander. Everyone forgets how the Redskins Manipulated the cap years.they can sign anyone abd make the cap number this year the league minimum. |

Like the previous 2 years- at least one major unrestricted free agent will not be re-signed - more than likely Fred Davis - especially if the redskins sign another team's free agent. This year is also different than previous years because there a number of key free agents that the redskins might lose. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
Nfl.com show the redskins as around 4 million under the cap. We still have a week before free agency . As for the free agents we have young, paulsen and jackson , all of who could recieve tenders , - and they could all be at the lower level given we get an opportinty to match ...
Davis is looking at a 1 year 2 million type deal - alot of teams will be wary of him because of him comming off an injury and with the 2011 suspension .. I think we are going to see some cuts potentially but more likley some restructures and we are in better shape than is widly reported |

Re: 2013 Free Agents
We're about $4M over the cap right now, over as in we're in the red.
We're going to be tight against the cap but a few moves can free up a lot of room pretty quickly. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
For the first time in a longgg time I really feel satisfied when I take a look at our team and free agency. I think our main focus should be on retaining our young promising players (D Young, Pauleson, Jackson, Fred Davis) and keep our focus more on the draft, than added free agents. I think adding a vetern Tackle, a young Corner, maybe a 3rd down RB/KR, etc. We are in good shape even with the penalty, which maybe a blessing in disguise i.e. finally having to cut older players who time is to move on Hall, Moss, Carriker, and Fletch.
Lets continue to roll with the draft/youth movement, look how far we have come. |

I for one hope they don't sign one expensive FA. Davis will most likely walk. R Jackson and Zo need to be re-signed. Furthermore I don't think people forget how the Redskins manipulated the cap. I think they remember how we cotinued to re-structure aging vets, adding years and pushing guaranteed money onto the following season. Such cap savvy moves forced the Skins to have to let go of a guy like Pierce, in favor of a guy like Lemar Marshall. Not moves we should be modeling, in my opinion. |
Schefter saying that goldson isn't coming back to San Fran. If they're getting rid of him, then there must be something wrong with him/ he's a system player.
Sirius XM NFL Radio was breaking him down the other day. Didn't seem to high on him. Basically said Whitner was a better player and the niners probably didn't value Goldson for what it would take to sign him. They painted a picture of him being a thumper that could crash down in the box and clean up a tackle or jump on a pile and has a propensity to bite on the pump or double move and get burned. I don't know too much about the 49ers, but if this is accurate I wouldn't want to bring him in here. Seems like another D Hall liability which isn't what we need. |
Eric Winston (RT) released by the Chiefs.

This draft is packed with secondary talent so I say we address our needs in April. |

Yup, cut everyone, bring him in.

Re: 2013 Free Agents
That played their hand a bit, I would think it safe to say they are going with the tackle with the 1st pick.

What level of secrecy does the first pick need? |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
As many have said here and on twitter, get Winston. Theres not many times you get a 2nd chance on a player you missed out on (especially the season before). Also, your QB is your most important position/player on your team. Your second most position/player on your team is your OL to protect your QB. What was the weakest position on our OL last year? RT. What position does Eric Winston play? RT. What scheme has Winston thrived in? The ZBS. What do we play? The ZBS.
This makes too much sense not to happen. I'm one of the biggest London Fletcher fans, but he has lost a step clearly, is becoming a liability in coverage, is contemplating retirement, and is due $6 million. He has a replacement at least (Keenan Robinson; maybe even Lorenzo). Polumbus was awful, he didn't even rank among the top 35 RTs in the league out of 32 teams, and he doesn't have a trustworthy backup. Cut Fletch, Sign Winston, Protect your injured QB more, figure out the money after you sign him. Then you can worry about bringing back Fletch at a lower salary since we're the only team that needs/wants a 38 year old ILB near the end of his career. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
Keenan Robinson is coming back from a serious knee injury, I wouldn't count on him till later in the season if lucky. It's more important to resign Lorenzo.

He had a torn muscle. Serious, but not that serious. |

He tore his pec, not his knee. |

I'm all in for Winston. He would be a huge upgrade.

Yep, you are right. I remember Joe Buck saying he tore his knee and that's what I went by. Should have known better. |
I think the Skins will make it happen this time.

Re: 2013 Free Agents
I am of the opinion that unless this comes real cheap, like less than 2 million a year the Redskkins will have no interest in this guy. He will turn 30 next season. We dont need this guy. We need FS and CB.

Who are the Redskkins? And why wouldn't we want a top 3 RT on our team? |

Disagree. The skins need to protect their investment in RG3. There is no RT option better right now than Winston. Plus, this draft is stacked at CB and S. deal with those issues there. I say we go for him even if we have to sacrifice a player like fletcher... |
$2 million? We will not be in the ball park at 2. Double that or go to 4.5 & we may have a chance.

Thats our new politically correct name for the Redskins. If he was a top three RT then why did the Chiefs cut him and pay Brandon Albert 10 million dollars to probably play right tackle. Why did the Texans cut him? I will pass. |

KC cut Winston presumably because they are going to use the #1 pick on a tackle. PFF graded Winston relatively high, so he was not cut for performance reasons. I hope Bruce is chatting with Winston's agent right now. Big upgrade over Polumbus. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
Eric Winston rated as the 3rd best RT in the NFL last year behind Vollmer and Anthony Davis according to nfldraftscout

Blow @ericwinston up with HTTR tweets & start a Warpath recruiting run.

I just tweeted Eric saying I hope he takes a good look at the Redskins. We'd love to have him go deep into the playoffs with us. Everyone else should do the same! |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
I expect Winston will go to Dallas (if they cut Free) or Miami. I think he basically snubbed us last year, and would be surprised if there was any chance at all for him to come here.
HTTR24-7.com @HTTR24_7 Winston is probably a pipedream. It's not a matter of Winston vs Fletcher or Hall, but only a few ways to free up the money.
|

Swoope>Edleman Im all in for Winston as a Skin. |
Re: 2013 Free Agents
Swope has three concussions already. He might end up being another Jahvid Best - marvelous physical skills but can't get on the field to show them off.
For Swope vs. Edelman, IMO neither. |

I never saw him play, but seems to me he may not be that good. Although, Andy Ried likes big fat maulers on his offensive line. I would rather the Redskins spend money on Chris Clemons, and one of the good corners out there and draft a right tackle at 51. |
